Is this place changing for the worse, or is it me ?

Hey, I know I'm probably one of the bad boys that you are talking about but here is just a little sensless rambling that might explain why I post in the general and when I do post in the other forums I make it light!

I'm 27 years old, been out of college for about 5 years and am still a young guy. You guys don't know me in person but only what I post on here. I have been married and divorced and I don't like being a serious old man just yet! I love to have fun and to joke. I tell these stories to lighten the mood around here. I just like to make people laugh and not be so dang serious all the time. I know every time Felonious Monk has a post I usually reply to it and try to make light of it or rationalize it and anybody else for that matter! I don't post anything that I feel is offensive to a mature adult! And I don't post anything that is senseless anywhere but right here in GENERAL DISCUSSION, which I thought meant anything you want to talk about:shrug:

If I have offended any of you with my point of view or a joke or a picture I apologize! I have throttled back and will continue to do so at Jack's request!

well i just posted what helps myself.....records do not help me nor does a simple pick.......can take any game there is and find people on both sides of it.....plus you never know if 10 guys are on one pick because 1 or 2 guys who already posted are on it.....that seems to be the rule instead of the exception much of the time......

i never said posting records are worthless, but posting inflated records are......and many people only post when they are hot and that is just trash as far as i am concerned.....i am very streaky myself and if i was posting a cold record i usually start picking better and after a hot streka i cool off....others are more consistent......so unless the record is inclusive it is worthless.......

yeah my record has been garbage but i have been making an adjustment.......spending too much time looking at what has happened and not trying to figure what IS GOING to happen.....

starting to turn around.......

I feel that someone should be able to post other things besides handicapping stuff as long as they keep it in the general forum.....everyone has a choice whether they read that post or not....whatever decision is made please don't ban the MOJO.....

Hey guys,
Just read this thread just now. As gib stated before. The gang at the NCAA forum started a late night thing called "late night action" where a bunch of guys will put small action or heavy action on the side/total/first half/first half total/second half and so on. As always not everyone will be on the same side but you know what... we have yet to have any arguments. Yes sometimes some posts are uncalled for and some words are said but no bad blood is every exchanged. We do post funny pics and half nekkid chics but keep it withing the lines of chics wearing clothes (a lil but still clothed), chairs, monkeys, tanks, and even d00ds in dresses and lil chinese boys. I dont know what the harm in all this is? Besides maybe being slow for 56k'ers. But I guess the decision to not allow pics to be posted has already been decided as it kinda will take out the fun and laughs in our threads but its jacks message board and I cant argue really with what he decides. As for the posting of records. I have always posted my record and YTD ever since I joined MadJacks. And its not to get popularity as for anyone that knows me... I had a -2000 YTD in MLB... -1500 YTD in NCAA Foots ... -1000 NFL YTD. Boy.. lol yes i'm such a great handi capper, autographs will be sent to those who want them ;) Anyways the point of me keeping a YTD is 1, people do come in here for insite and might now know what they are following if they follow someone that just claims a game as being "big" or "huge" and then getting sodomized by it. Atleast they know the truth if they follow me. Just a normal guy trying to make a buck like veryone else. I do have a positive YTD in ncaa baskets this year but I never do pat myself in the back or tell people to load up or so on. I sometimes I get happy if I hit a few games and will even state "sorry if im sounding cocky, just happy i hit" to not offend anyone. Just giving my 2 cents worth.....

Don't take this the wrong way but some of you guys need to lose the bra. This sounds like a bunch of old grannies going at it. I am a long time visitor of this site and a fairly new poster here, but I really think some of you need to lighten up a bit because there are more important things going on in the world right now. There are guys risking their ass for us in Afganistan and you guys are bitching back and forth about who's posting too many jokes, not posting write ups with picks, or whatever.

MY only point is this, please remember to keep things in perspective. Everyone knows this is a cappin' site, but what's wrong with having an escape to go to (like this forum) after a bad day to catch a joke or something? Enjoy life baby because this ain't no dress rehearsal!!

And what does this have to do with what we are talking about?

There are always things more important than sports, handicapping, jokes, or anything else that goes on at this site. Does that mean we shouldn't post here?

I won't argue whether or not us being in Afghanistan is actually more important than sports. I'll save that for another thread. :)

My only reason for saying that is because there are more important things in life than who's posting too much or too little of whatever. People need to be a litte more TOLERANT and have a little UNDERSTANDING with each other. This whole thing just boils down to the older members not liking what the newer guys are posting because of the new types of topics, etc. WHY IS EVERYONE AFRAID OF CHANGE?? I'm sorry but things change, people come and go. MadJack has been doing a good job so far and like he said he will keep an eye on stuff that people post which is questionable. I would also guess that there is a generation gap between the people who have problems with each other. I am a fairly young guy and can relate to a lot of the humor but if I was older I could see where I couldn't relate on some things.

From your post "I won't argue whether or not us being in Afghanistan is actually more important than sports. I'll save that for another thread."

That's has got to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You can't be that ignorant.

yo...

everything is fine here.

we're growing.

we're big.

there are a lot of different styles and personalities. everybody will never get along with everybody. that's what makes it great.

there's no 'right' way to post and there's no 'wrong' way to post. just a few rules to follow and you all know what they are.

i can turn the pictures back on in the handicapping forums (they are still turned on in this general forum), IF, you guys can keep the pics PG rated. i can't have nudity posted on this site because of my agreement with the hosting company.

i appreciate ALL the input and ALL of your contributions to the forum, by EVERYBODY!

post away and let me decide the best way to monitor the forum. hey, i'm getting pretty good at this after 4 years ;)

Is it just me or do we have to different discussions going on in this thread?

Half of the posts are talking about handicapping and half are talking about the general discussion page.

As far as the general discussion posting goes, it is Jack's call and Jack's call alone as to the type of (and length of) posting that occurs here. He is doing a great job as moderator, to the point of giving all of us A LOT of leeway in this arena. Some MAY have abused that trust. I normally read all the posts, until a particular post turns into a "me vs you" column. At that point, any attempt to lighten up the thread fails, and I just ingore the rest of the posts.

In the handicapping threads I understand that you don't always have time to post your reasoning behind your picks. I would rather read the logic of your pick that just see "Rams -14 Under 6 units" but we all have time constraints. I try to offer some thoughts in my posts so everyone can decide if I'm onto something or full of crap. The value of different opinions is part of my handcapping philosophy, since I can't do research full-time.

We all enjoy this site, it is far and away the best on the web. If you don't like a post, don't respond. It's kinda like voting with your keypad.

To some extent, that may be correct.

First and foremost, this place is for handicapping. That idea should be evident to everyone, so I won't bother to go deeper on that.

Thus, when a person comes here to see handicapping info, and only finds things about how to bang co-eds, and see pictures of the "hottest female", they end up scratching their head.

Now, anyone who knows me, knows I have started threads that are not sports/handicapping related, so I am certainly not trying to be "Mr Soapbox", and preach to the masses. But the original question of this thread has been twisted around really bad!

"Have things changed around here?"

That was the qusetion, and the answer is YES!

I can't say if it's good or bad, positive or negitive.......each of us will have an oppinion on that, so arguing would continue all day long, based on oppinions.

I am one week away from my 38th birthday, and in here, that makes me a senior citizen. Thus, I may not find all the "dorm talk" to my liking. Shit, I can, and do talk that way at times, so don't mark me a prude, either!

The thing is, and if I may speak for Spanky2, I believe all he was trying to convey, was that the forum has lost it's "handicapping" theme, and become the internet version of Maxim magazine, to some extent.

The handicapping part of Mad Jack's has taken quite a hit from where I sit, and that is too bad. Will it recover? Maybe.....maybe not. The members will determine that.

Personally, I think MJ's has seen it's best days, and they are now behind us........nothing stays the same, and it will grow or wither with time.

The change has not been subtle, and I think that is what the originator of this thread was hinting at. I whole heartidly concur.

You've got to be kidding me....

You've got to be kidding me....

You out of all people have the audacity to complain about certain topics that you don't take to your liking?!?

I've got news for you pal, the same shit that you seem to resent is the same shit I've been filtering through before I started posting here. Do you need proof? I can find plenty of topics of discussion that go beyond anything I've posted...from YOU!

Also, if you admit to starting the same types of threads and even talking the same way in public, then what's the problem?

Some people do need to take off the bra in here....either that or use the filter that Jack has provided for some of you sensitive types.

FM,

I don't think yyz was complaining, he stated that several times in his post.

He was just trying to explain what others may feel and that the board has changed. He stated that he thinks that it has changed for the worse, but stated that that's just his opinion.

My opinion is that we are now living in the golden age of the general forum, but at the end of the football season, there wasn't as much technical or fundamental information on the matchups as there has been in the past. That may be because of the playoffs not being very exciting this year. Don't know a thing about the other forums as I don't post there.

Keep posting what you want and if others, besides Jack, don't like it, who cares?

Ummm...Did You Read Description of This Area?

Ummm...Did You Read Description of This Area?

Hello! Earth to Spanky!

We're in the "General Discussion" area right?

Did you even bother to read the description attached to the heading?

General Discussion --> Discussions about everything else and Non-Handicapping issues

Having this area in the site is what seperates Mad Jack's from the rest of the gambling info sites out on the Net!

If one wants to "blow off steam" or make some "risque jokes," this is the area!

Censoring this area from all discussions which may be "risque" would make this place rather vanilla, and I for one would not like to see that!

This is the area where the "personalities" of the posters can be on showcase, and if you're offended, you can simply click out! Is anyone "forcing" you to check out the General Discussion forum?

Thank goodness for the General Discussion area! This is where one can practice their 1st Amendment rights (within reason!) Not sure how your freedom of expression is treated up in Canada, but here in the USA, it's a right worth fighting for!

Have a nice day or night, and GL2U!

I don't know what else to call it but he's referencing my posts and I take offense to that simply because he's brought up topics that have had to do with penis's and dikes that play on softball teams tongueing each other, among other things. Now I ask myself, why would any guy take offense to someone talking about banging a chick opposed to male anatomy? Now that's baffling!

The same topics I bring up, are some of the same scenarios that we've encountered atleast once in our lifetime. Someone tell me what the criteria should be for posting in the General Forum and I'll make arrangements.

One of the reasons I find MJs so entertaining is because it seems to be a microcosm of the USA. A melting pot of different personalities. The members take on a persona in your mind, same as when you read a novel. After I looked at the SB party pictures I found myself thinking, that's not how I pictured he/she would look. It is far easier to form these "characters" from a mixture of the handicapping posts and General Forum writings.

As far as the sexy stuff, I have a couple comments. Sex is naturally on the minds of most everyone and at the forefront with more or less frequency depending on factors like age, spirituality, occupation, etc. It's a healthy phenomenom. Or so says Dr. Ruth, Joyce Brothers, Lora Dorn (or Corn) and the guys from WHAM. George Carlin once said that if God had intended for us NOT to masturbate, He would've made our arms shorter.

Since you asked, Mr. Monk, I will say that the only prose you have written, that startled me, was when you talked about "abusing" chicks as a reference to having sex with them. You also referred to them as "victims" I think. Now I don't believe you are dangerous or anything like that, I think that's just part of your language or schtick.

Yet in a nearby thread you encouraged the people posting pictures to please not show nips as that is over the line. I found that to be an interesting contrast, since I believe the MJ women would be far more insulted by the language I refer to than a picture of breasts and nipples.

Someone may have said it best when they commented that MJs is less like the corner bar now and more like a Planet Hollywood. Some people would rather go to Planet Hollywood and that's cool. Now let me go unwad my panties.
