Is Winning on a Faulty Slot Machine a Crime?

It would be pretty hard to track the people down. If someone actually used their player slot card when capitalizing on this, they should be arrested. I understand that technology is great and they could track down some people, but I wonder how many?

Hell I don't know
The prosecuter would have to prove they knowingly AND intentially deprived the casino of the money. It would be hard to prove. Let it go and don't be so neglegant next time :nono:

I think it is more of a moral issue, not a criminal one.

I read in the Post that it was set up for Canadian currency. Thinking about it, isn't the Canadian # worth almost as much as our dollar?

Actually, if memory serves me.....it was set up for somehwere in Asia.

That would make sense as far as the odd payouts go, but I am 100% certain it had Canada in the NY Post this week.

no one mentions the software company? Caesars should sue them for their loss.

I guess Caesars decided not to test this machine either.

How many of the people were drunk? I would declare I was highly intoxicated due to the "over serving" of free alcohol by Caesars employees and I did not even notice the error. That may shut them up.

Should the people give the money back?

sure it is the honest thing ...but Caesar's needs to take part of the blame for their own faulty software and for not testing their own machine prior to it going on the floor. Going after the 24 people that used it...priceless.

But, I have no sympathy for the guy who knows something aint right, and looks around while pumping bill after bill into the machine, either. He is a thief. IMO, if he would steal from them, he would steal from me, and I have no time for him.
I would easily accept money from a faulty machine in a casino, but would never steal from an individual.

Terry - I don't agree with the ATM analogy.

I look at this way - In Vegas, Casinos report their monthly earnings as "WINS". Officially, casinos are gambling just like the players. Only difference is the odds are generally skewed heavily in their favor. I consider every part of what they do as gambling. It's not a normal business. They have taken on the burden of accuracy, just like players. Players always screw up and make poor decisions. Sometimes a dealer does too, and sometimes a machine makes a mistake. It's all part of the game. In fact, I think it's a player's RESPONSIBILITY to capitalize whenever possible.

On the course!
Why don't you agree with the ATM analogy? It's the bank's job to make sure that the machine works properly! Hey....they make money on fees, etc. They should have been making better decisions.

And if you leave your keys in your car while robbing the bank/casino, don't go crying to the cops if someone takes off in it! Let's face it. They would only be taking advantage of the opportunity that you left them, right?

Yeah.....that makes sense.

The mere fact that you rationalize your brand of theft is pretty telling.

We all have our lines, I guess.

When you are presented with an opportunity like this, and actually walk away from it, THEN you can pass some judgment on others!

Any one of us would hit this, me included. Same as if I see a horrible blackjack dealer showing her hole card, or I find a craps table where they occasionally forget to take my hardways down when they should, or a poker dealer flashing others hole cards as they deal, or I find $1,000 laying in the hallway, etc.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
If the bank teller accidentally gives you extra $50, would you alert her? Would you alert the clerk at the casino bank too?

I'm sure you would alert gal at roadside fruit stand. Is the difference size of business or just that one is in gambling business?

Do you think hole carding is ok? How about shining when hole carding?

some interesting lines to draw.

I guess I think with smurphy on a lot of this---I always felt it's us against the casino. Old BJ card counter mentality never dies...

i have never stolen anything in my life from a person or a business, but if i can get something free from a casino...i will gladly take it....& not think twice about it.

however, if a bank gave me too much money on a transaction, i will give it back...to me that's not the samething as dealing with a casino.

Agent, you are wrong. I would not do it. You see, I have to live with the actions I choose to make, and I won't make that one. I can't live with that hanging over me.

Now, if I was walking down the hallway somewhere and found money, it would be quite easy to see if some frantic person was crying, "My god! I just dropped $1,000 around here!" They would get it back. Why? Because I know it was theirs. Just like I know the money in the slot machine is the casino's. If no one is around, I'm certainly not going to leave it on the ground, but I'm going to see if someone's "lost it". If I can't find them, I'm going to keep the score, sure. The only reason I would not turn it in, is because you hear about how the casino keeps any found money, or a township will hold it until someone claims it, etc........I think that is BS, too!

You guys who are all saying it's okay to steal from a casino are really flooring me! You are that bitter over being losers to them that you would stoop THIS low? They don't make you play their games!

What about when a slot tech happens to not close a game tightly? Are you going to reach inside and take the bills out? It is, after all, an employee oversight. Might as well take advantage of it!

In a sense......what make you guys any better than the people you see looting a store? They notice it's broken into, so they hop in too. They get what they want, and move along on THEIR way! If I posted a looting video, I can be pretty sure most of the guys in this thread would be saying, "They should shoot those fukkers!"

Yea, and if they found out later this machine wasn't PAYING OUT CORRECTLY, would they hunt down all the people who played it and pay them back?

Yea fukcin right!!!

Vice versa...

I go to the above quote above... if a casino found out the machine was not paying the correct odds do you think they would let the public know? No chance . They would take the machine out and never talk about it again..then again the machine would still be in operation on the floor.

Also if a patron was playing the machine while they were drunk and did not even notice it paying well do we arrest them too. (heck 24 people played the machine... if these people were so bright the report would say casino loses 487K to one guy)

You sure are passing some strong judgements against some of us and rather bad assumptions about our character based on some ridiculous analogies. Kinda makes me wonder what skeletons you are trying to make ammends for with your holier than thou attitude.
