We won't be able to judge the Iraq situation for 10 years or so in terms of whether we did the right thing or not, but at least someone had the courage and vision to try something to break the terrible ME impasse.

I'm optimistic though, I think Iraq turns out great in the long run and many other things in that region of the world get resolved as a result of this move.

This President may well go down in history as one of the greatest, we just don't know yet. But at least he has courage.......oh, and Smurphy, you know that Rumsfeld quote you post every time? It actually makes sense if you read it properly. It is both gramatically correct and correct in the context in which he said it.

Cheers.

Yeah, sometimes the news is very discouraging. A couple of years ago I was talking to an old vet who was actually a part of the US landing force in Normany in 1944 and he told me that although it looks obvious now that The Allies we going to win the war and that the defeat of the Axis powers was inevitable, he says that it didn't look like that to him or anyone else at the time.

I think these things only become obvious with hindsight and hopefully in 10 years time we will be saying: Hey, look at all these ME democracies now, look at the Palestianian state and the peace in the region, can you believe only 10 years ago they were all commiting such terrible atrocities?

Thias vet was one of the most amazing people I have ever met and I thanked him for his sacrifice. When I'm down and pissed off about something I always try to remember how lucky I am that I've never had to serve. If I had been called, would I have had the courage and steel that this man and so many of his comrades had? I don't know, and thankfully, I'll never have to find out.

Oh, and don't spend any time thinking about those "old" Europeans. They don't get it now. In fact, the only time they did get it was when they were getting something from Americans....freedom from horrific dictatorships, protection from the Soviet Union, someone to have the courage to put troops on the ground in Bosnia....etc., etc., etc. They are a spent force and play no major role in the world from now. Their time has come and gone.

Cheers.

As we sit here on the sidelines contributing nothing but opinion in something that other than us, no one gives a sh*t what we think any way. Some of us are trying to figure out how to avoid paying taxes even though the country is bankrupt, the military is committing war crimes in paralel with Germany and Japan in the 40's. Loved ones and friends of the 1360 dead and 13,000 maimed and wounded are now being told, after 2 years and millions of taxpaying dollars there are no more searches for WMDs.
Now what? I'm assuming parents still raise their children as human beings. How can this be justified and what will happen when Red Dawn" becomes reality. If there is a deity, it's time to jump in.

when the terrorists detonate that first dirty bomb in the u.s. or europe.....or israel.....and all hell breaks loose, then maybe dan and ilove wr(moron that he is),will realize that sticking your heads in the sand still doesn`t work...

some europeans(churchill excluded) still haven`t learned from history....and remember...9/11 preceded iraq....the war was on long before iraq became an issue...

the issue was...and still is....keeping wmd`s from despots and radicals.....that should be the focus of the entire free world....

Israel is no saint sad to say. Hey these folks like to beat on each other. Been going on how many 1000's of years. Not to worry now. We may have started the same thing in Iraq once we leave. Just because they needed elections. What a joke.

I would be stunned, humbled, and ecstatic if history actually somehow proves that Bush was great. Here's to hoping that ends up being the case. :)

Bush having courage? Where, how? From what I can tell, he's never sacrificed a thing. Good judgement is what I want from a President. He's not the one fighting or struggling with a working class job - what kind of courage is required?

Re: Rummy - Yeah, you can break it down and figure it out. But really he was rambling. Schprekenze English, Donald?

Good thread though, the attitude gives credibility to the Bible prediction of a World War in July 05. The United States is bankrupt and can not defeat a partisan army. George Washington predicted this in the late 18th century.

Murph- What does the Bible say about SB XXXVIII? Hey, it could happen- maybe in his version anyway.

Smurph- I think MrChristo lives in Tasmania.

Anyone think the Jewish ppl didn't learn anything after WW2...

Israel, the 100th smallest country, with less than 1/1000th of the world's population, can make claim to the following:

Israel has the highest ratio of university degrees to the population in the world.

Israel produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation by a large margin - 109 per 10,000 people - as well as one of the highest per capita rates of patents filed.

In proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of startup companies in the world. In absolute terms, Israel has the largest number of startup companies than any other country in the world, except the US (3,500 companies mostly in hi-tech).

Israel is ranked #2 in the world for venture capital funds right behind the US.

Outside the United States and Canada, Israel has the largest number of NASDAQ listed companies.

Israel has the highest average living standards in the Middle East. The per capita income in 2000 was over $17,500, exceeding that of the UK.

With an aerial arsenal of over 250 F-16s, Israel has the largest fleet of the aircraft outside of the US.

Israel's $100 billion economy is larger than all of its immediate neighbors combined.

On a per capita basis, Israel has the largest number of biotech start-ups.

Twenty-four percent of Israel's workforce holds university degrees -ranking third in the industrialized world, after the United States and Holland - and 12 percent hold advanced degrees.

Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle East.

In 1984 and 1991, Israel airlifted a total of 22,000 Ethiopian Jews at risk in Ethiopia to safety in Israel.

When Golda Meir was elected Prime Minister of Israel in 1969, she became the world's second elected female leader in modern times.

When the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya was bombed in 1998, Israeli rescue teams were on the scene within a day - and saved three victims from the rubble.

Israel has the third highest rate of entrepreneurship - and the highest rate among women and among people over 55 - in the world.

Relative to its population, Israel is the largest immigrant-absorbing nation on earth. Immigrants come in search of democracy, religious freedom, and economic opportunity.

Israel was the first nation in the world to adopt the Kimberly process, an international standard that certifies diamonds as "conflict free."

According to industry officials, Israel designed the airline industry's most impenetrable flight security. U.S. officials now look to Israel for advice on how to handle airborne security threats.

In 1991, during the Gulf War, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra played a concert wearing gas masks as scud missiles fired by Saddam Hussein fell on Tel Aviv.

Israel has the world's second highest per capita of new books.

Israel is the only country in the world that entered the 21st century with a net gain in its number of trees.

Israel has more museums per capita than any other country.

Israel has two official languages: Hebrew and Arabic.

Medicine:
Israeli scientists developed the first fully computerized, no-radiation, diagnostic instrumentation for breast cancer.

An Israeli company developed a computerized system for ensuring proper administration of medications, thus removing human error from medical treatment. Every year in U.S. hospitals 7,000 patients die from treatment mistakes.

Israel's Givun imaging developed the first ingestible video camera, so small it fits inside a pill. Used to view the small intestine from the inside, the camera helps doctors diagnose cancer and digestive disorders.

Researchers in Israel developed a new device that directly helps the heart pump blood, an innovation with the potential to save lives among those with congestive heart failure. The new device is synchronized with the heart's mechanical operations through a sophisticated system of sensors.

Technology:
With more than 3,000 high-tech companies and start-ups, Israel has the highest concentration of hi-tech companies in the world (apart from the Silicon Valley).

In response to serious water shortages, Israeli engineers and agriculturalists developed a revolutionary drip irrigation system to minimize the amount of water used to grow crops.

Israel has the highest percentage in the world of home computers per capita.

Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in the workforce, with 145 per 10,000, as opposed to 85 in the U.S., over 70 in Japan, and less than 60 in Germany. With over 25% of its work force employed in technical professions. Israel places first in this category as well.

The cell phone was developed in Israel by Motorola, which has its largest development center in Israel.

Most of the Windows NT operating system was developed by Microsoft-Israel.

The Pentium MMX Chip technology was designed in Israel at Intel.

Voice mail technology was developed in Israel.

Both Microsoft and Cisco built their only R&D facilities outside the US in Israel.

The technology for AOL Instant Messenger was developed in 1996 by four young Israelis.

An Israeli company was the first to develop and install a large-scale solar-powered and fully functional electricity generating plant, in southern California's Mojave desert.

The first PC anti-virus software was developed in Israel in 1979.

I SRAEL HAS BEEN ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS WHILE BEING SURROUNDED BY ENEMIES THAT WANT NOTHING MORE THAN TO WIPE IT OUT. IMAGINE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF ISRAEL IF IT WAS JUST LEFT IN PEACE!!!!!!

Since the birth of Israel, the Arabs have launched four aggressive imperialist wars against Israel, 1948, 1956, 1967, and 1973. The Arabs have six million miles of land, Israel only ten thousand, yet the Arabs have to have it all because a free society is anathema to their nightmare vision of an enslaved world obedient to Allah.

To complain about how Arabs are treated poorly in Israel is surreal in light of:

The one country in the Middle East where Arabs can vote: Israel.
The one country in the Middle East where Arabs have free speech: Israel.
The one country in the Middle East where Arabs have the lowest infant mortality rate: Israel.
The one country in the Middle East where Arabs can run a business without having to pay protection money: Israel.
The one country in the Middle East where Arabs do not have to join the military: Israel.
The one country in the Middle East where Arab women have equal rights to Arab men: Israel.
The one country in the Middle East where Arabs can marry whomever they want: Israel.
The one country in the Middle East where Arabs have full economic, social, and civil liberty: Israel.

Everyone knows Israel has nukes. It's good for every Arab despot to know that if Israel ever goes down, they'll take Ridyah, Tehran, Baghdad, Cairo, Damascus, and the rest of the Arab regimes with them. Arabs know they can never win on the battlefield, that's why they're doing everything they can to weaken Israel though the 'peace process'.

Inside the Bush Administration are 12 prominant Jews, from the Press Secretary,to the war hawks:
Paul Dundes Wolfowitz - Deputy Secretary, Department of Defense
Richard Perle - Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy.
Ari Fleischer - White House Press Secretary
Josh Bolten - Deputy Chief of Staff
Ken Melman - White House Political Director
Jay Lefkowitz - Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of the Domestic Policy Council
David Frum - Speechwriter
Brad Blakeman - White House Director of Scheduling
Dov Zakheim - Undersecretary of Defense (Controller)
I. Lewis Libby - Chief of Staff to the Vice President
Adam Goldman - White House Liaison to the Jewish Community
Chris Gersten - Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Administration for Children and Families at HHS
Elliott Abrams - Director of the National Security Council's Office for Democracy, Human Rights ( !!! ) and International Operations
Mark D. Weinberg - Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development for Public Affairs
Douglas Feith - Under Secretary of Defense for Policy
Michael Chertoff - Head of the Justice Department's criminal division
Daniel Kurtzer - Ambassador to Israel ( !!! )
Cliff Sobel - Ambassador to the Netherlands
Stuart Bernstein - Ambassador to Denmark
Nancy Brinker - Ambassador to Hungary
Frank Lavin - Ambassador to Singapore
Ron Weiser - Ambassador to Slovakia
Mel Sembler - Ambassador to Italy
Martin Silverstein - Ambassador to Uruguay
Wolfowitz is the chief advocate of war on Iraq.

The money Israel has gotten from us and England. They should be the richest and best ever. We made sure they had all they wanted. You and Me and our Kids. They still stick there finger in our face when we say hey why don't you try this or this. They tell us who's number 1, and it's not us.
