I've got pneumonia in my left lung! Holy hell, it feels like I'm getting stabbed in my left lung every breath I take! Got a shot of penicillin earlier today, an antibiotic pill, and some codeine cough syrup (I think).
It started hurting Tuesday night. Doctor told me that if I hadn't come in today, I would've definitely been in the hospital by Saturday!
I'm ready for this to be done!

Had to go to the ER today! It has now spread to both lungs. Just got admitted and will be spending the night here.

Thanks guys! After a CT chest exam, I've now been told it's a Bilateral Pulmonary Embolism.

SixFive and any others in the medical profession, what do y'all know about this?

HELL
Assume you are now heparinized......and you will be watched and worked up extensively. I would ask about VQ scan and potential CTEPH (Chronic Thromboembolic Hypertension) ruling out too. I defer to 6'5 and others though.

Good luck and get well.

I see you lurking(surveilling?)......

what`s the word?...making progress?...:mj09:

That's about the only thing I'm able to do, is play on my phone internet. I got moved out of the ICU today. All of my heart test/exams have come back solid. They did a Doppler test on my legs and were unable to find any clots. There are still several clots in/around each lung and so far, no one knows where they came from. They usually come from the lower body, that's why they did the Doppler. I'm still on bed rest and can only get up to use the restroom, it sucks. They're still drawing blood and sending it off for tests to see if this is a genetic clotting disorder. My mother had complications during child birth with my sister 30 years ago and she had a blood clot in her leg 2 weeks later and died. Thirty years later, they are saying it may have been a clotting disorder and not pregnancy problems. So if it comes back as a genetic clotting disorder...my brother, his kids, my sister, her kid, and my kids will all have to be tested. I'm still taking breathing treatments for the pneumonia and have to receive oxygen 24/7. I just hope they find what caused the clots. They think another cause could be my job. I do shift work and sit in a chair for 12 hour shifts, it's sucks.

I was finally able to see my kids tonight (13 month old daughter and 2.5 year old son). That's the worst part of all of this. He doesn't understand why Daddy can't come home and play baseball with him! It breaks my heart!

Anyways, thanks for asking for an update, hopefully I'll get to leave around Sunday. Take care guys!

Just read this thread again after you posted u have bilateral PEs!! That sucks in a bad way.

Since your legs are ok, I would guess u have a clotting disorder. The probable treatment after it is diagnosed will be anticoagulation therapy the rest of your life. I have a friend with Factor V disorder, and she recently had a nagging PE. She had to have VATS to surgically remove her clot, so I hope yours dissipates with the anticoagulation therapy I assume u are getting. PEs used to be fatal and sometimes still are, so I'm glad they caught yours and can treat it. Keep us updated.

How old are you?

SixFive, I'll be 34 in October. My mom was a little younger when she died, I think. Sunday night, they started me on an injection blood thinner (stings like hell) and Coumadin. I have another chest x-ray scheduled for Wednesday morning. Hopefully it'll show the clots have dissipated and surgery won't be required! I have not heard anyone mention surgery yet.
