You had mentioned awhile back you manage your own IRA and felt it was a great move. Wondering if you utilize an online brokerage like etrade, ameritrade, etc. and if so likes/dislikes? I've got 6 figures that needs to get moved. Been courted by a couple professional brokers but leaning towards personal management. Lemme know your thougths... thanks :0008

Hands down Vanguard. Lowest fees out there and a lot of funds to invest in. It's hard enough to make money out there without a broker taking a big chunk. I am no investment guru but I do know that controlling fees is huge.

I moved my IRA from Oppenheimer where I was holding mutual funds over to TDAmeritrade. They will help you fill out the forms, ect in order to make the transaction. Best thing I ever did. :0074

I did the same thing, have used Ameritrade and E*TRADE before. Like both, but they have so many discount brokers nowadays it pays to ask a lot of questions. For example, if you're going to trade frequently with Ameritrade or E*TRADE in your IRA ask them about giving you a premium rate. They WILL do this and you'll be charged less for trades. You might think well it's only $10 per trade but it adds up if you are playing the markets and it's $6 instead of $10. If you're just going to stick it in a mutual fund for years that's a different story and this wouldn't apply. Just my two cents...
