Lol, I don't mean this bitter at all. I love the site and love Jack (from the little I know of him), so please don't take this as anything other than a thought exercise.

Why is everyone congratulating Jack? Why is he accepting the congratulations like he did something?

I don't really get this. I don't get when people refer to themselves as "we" when they have nothing to do with the team.

I love the company Apple. I love their products. I have been with them since the apple 2E. Then i got the ipod, the shuffle, and the nano. I had the iPhone 1-5. I have ipads, itouches, iminis, and a macbook. My whole family uses Apples. I love the stuff. It occupies a lot of my time. I have invested so much time and money with Apple products. I have grown up with them.

When Apple reports really good earnings next month, will you guys go crazy with 'Congratulations' wishes for me. Start 25 different threads congratulating me?

Is there a difference? I don't really get it is all... i swear I'm not trying to be a dick.

I guess it's because everybody knows how much I love "MY" Ravens and they are being nice to me

If the Vikings won I would congratulate BP and Sports.

When ND wins I congratulate BBC.

The Ravens winning means a lot to me for whatever crazy reason. I'm a sick fuk I guess.

And I know that my hyping of the Ravens and Flacco is annoying to a lot of people but I'm just having fun with it. No offense intended at all.

I get what you are saying, and I see your point. I have actually thought about this at length and I feel like it goes something like this because I know that I very much appreciate getting the congrats when my teams win.

I don't think congrats is the right word, but it is used because that is what we say to the people who actually are playing and it has carried over to the fans. That being said, I hate the "we" thing, retarded.

The congratulations is meant to be the summation of "I am acknowledging that you bragged about how great your team is and how we argued all year about how they weren't that great but the have succeeded or are succeeding and so you might have been right a little bit"

Also a way to bring up their teams success without making them brag about it.

That being said,
Congrats Jack :0008

Lol, it doesn't annoy me at all... I really just think it is hilarious how much congrats you get for doing nothing! Stuns me! And not just you of course. All the people who take such pride in a bunch of guys winning a football game that you have nothing to do with.

If they want to congratulate you on running and hosting the site for us, then I'm all in

:toast:

I get being happy for the people involved. These guys put their blood, sweat, and tears into something and then accomplish their... that is a feel good story

Do you really find it strange that fans celebrate when their team wins?

Flooding the streets in celebration... i find strange, yeah.

Being happy... sure.

To each their own... these are just my feelings.

I just think Groupthink in general is posionous. I grew up being a kid and a die hard sports fan. I played sports competitively. I was an all-state tennis player and a junior high hoops legend. I would literally cry my eyes out every week the Dallas Cowboys lost. That didn't go too well in 1989. I vividly remember the Cowboys losing 44-0 to the Bears in '86 and being at a tennis club crying my eyes out. Although, that may have had more to do with the fact that I lived in a chicago suburb and everyone was a Bears fan, and I talked shit all week.

Anyway, my point is I sort of do get it, but I really don't anymore. I love sports. I love the idea of being part of a team and working hard and accomplishing something. BUT, as my kids grow up... I hate the example sports sets. Even with the whole high school pep rally crap. North vs South. Beat the rivals!! It promotes an Us vs them attitude at all costs. It was meant to do this. Love our team (country) at all costs, and Hate the rivals (all the evildoers that aren't from our country and we will one day bomb). That is a bit of a tangent, but my kid is 4.5 and he is like, we hate the Falcons, we love the 49ers. And it annoys me. NO... we don't hate anyone, we just like these guys better. You may say this is overthinking it, but I don't think so.

I think that culture is poisonous. Joker made a post similar to this once, and EVERYone but me, disagreed with him. I don't get rooting for someone just because they are in a close proximity. I root for good vs evil. I don't blindly support anyone or anything. I want to instill that in my kids. Think for yourself. Propaganda and indoctrination run rampant today... don't let people tell you what to think... think for YOURSELF and be an individual. I think fandom can be the opposite of this. And I think rabid fandom is a microcosm of groupthink. It's pretty infantile and dangerous to the ideas of peace and individualism.

I know... boring. :violin:

jord I get what you are saying, but man its sports

fans are happy when they win, sad when they lose

jack, and most sane fans, don't really "hate" anyone from opposing sides. they do not really wish evil on anyone....ya I am with ya, I will never promote "hate" to my children, but I also see no problem with fans going crazy when they win....life is hard enough man, gives the average man something to root for, and something to be a part of...I think that is why sports are beautiful. They allow us to be a part of something otherwise we never would have gotten an opportunity.

some of the crazies, ya maybe I don't know I cant speak for them, but for the true sports advocate, the guy who roots like hell with buddies while drinking a beer, but gets up for work the next morning win or lose, I can tell ya this: they love their teams, and win or lose their life goes on, but with a win, life is that much sweeter :toast:

I always find it ironic how similar "non-conformists" are.
