Hedgehog, dude, quit while you're not so far behind. This is a liberal/mostdon'tgiveafuck/toeachhisown site, and you will never come out on top with these issues with

You really think it just boils down to the liberal's piling on Hedgehog?

Wow when a site full of middle-age suburban/rural white guys goes pro gay-marriage, imagine the rest of the country!

but I agree with your point that it's a very personal opinion and NOT worth losing friends over. That's why I try to stay out of it. Even though it pretty severely effects my life.

I live in Iowa where gay marriage is legal, and I hope that one day if you want to get married-- but as someone that has been for 17 years, I'd ask why? :142smilie --you will have the right to do so....:0008

Arguing with someone as close-minded as Hedgehog is about as productive as trying to give yourself a blowie.
The poor fella is probably a closeted homosexual himself. (No offense intended-I fully respect the homosexuals and wish for nothing but equality!)

Rainbow banner would be sweet for all you twinkle toes around here :0074

How is getting a divorce being a hypocrite? I got out because we could not get along, I co-parent my kids and my life is much better now :0008

misery loves company

I say make them pay extra for marriage license and new tax bracket, the gay bracket

we have single and married, why not gay married bracket? They do not have kids and can't produce them unless they get a surrogate or adopt so make them pay more in taxes

17 years later its a problem?

The Defense of Marriage Act, passed by Congress and signed into law by President Clinton in 1996, defines marriage as only between a man and woman. As such, it denies federal spousal benefits to same-sex couples

The DOMA does not define marriage at all. It restricts Federal spousal benefits and Inter-state recognition requirements of marriage to inter-sex couples only. The dictionary defines marriage as "legal or religious ceremony that formalizes the decision of two people to live as a married couple, including the accompanying social festivities." You can actually find these "dictionary" thingys online. This is actually the smallest and most indistinct misrepresentation you have made in support of your supposed "position" on the subject.
When you make the reference of "twinkle toes" when referring to homosexual men and then put a laughing smilie immediately after it, you don't get to make the statement that you "don't have anything against gays". I am hoping that you realize soon that nobody believes that for a moment. You don't get to make that statement when in the next post you call for a "Gay Tax".
You seem to be confusing "marriage" and "matrimony". If you want separation from "twinkle toes twosomes", the church has already provided you that. Which brings me to my next point.

You said you aren't a hypocrite because you got divorced. I am also to believe that your marriage was a "traditional" marriage. May I ask you how many goats you provided her father when she was thirteen and ready to be bred? Was she offered to your father as repayment for a public humiliation? Was she a virgin when you married? Or did you just club her over the head?

What this is about is a civil union between two people that love one another. The ability to conceive children has no bearing on whether or not the person you have spent the better part of your life with is deserving of the Federal Benefits that you had paid into your entire life. It is about whether or not the adopted children of these unions will be recognized as deserving of Federal benefits as the child that was born to a "traditional Republican Jesus" marriage.

How you can make any statement about supporting "traditional" marriage when you don't even know what it is and not be a hypocrite is beyond me. You are not "Co-Parenting" your children, you are fulfilling your court ordered obligation to them. Nothing more. (You really need a dictionary) Look up Co- in the dictionary, then look up parenting and tell me again how you are "co-parenting", I will wait.

On a final note, I am curious as to why you made two FB posts on this subject last night, only to have your ass handed to you, and now both are deleted? It almost seems as if you are embarrassed or unwilling to express your views to a more mixed crowd. I understand though. If I were completely ignorant to the facts, I wouldn't want to make a fool of myself either.

Hope that helps,
FDC

I'm pretty much staying away from debating this issue, since I feel like I am too close to it.

And Hedge as much as I think you are a lunk-head at times, I empathize with you being the anti-gay marriage symbol on this website. Even if only 25% of madjackers are anti-gay marriage, you are the guy everyone shouts at regarding this issue. Of course it?s because you stick your foot in your mouth at pretty much every opportunity.

I think part of what started this particular thread was based on something you said in the politics forum; along the lines of not shopping at JC Penny and Starbucks because they support gay marriage.
So I posed the question (over in the politics forum) that if Jack supported gay marriage would you stop posting here. The analogy being you don?t want to support businesses that supports gay marriage. How far you will go to isolate yourself from differing opinions and how committed you are to your anti gay-marriage stance?
OR are you all sizzle and no steak? Do you say random shit but perhaps in your heart of hearts don?t mean half of what you say? Or perhaps you make posts without thinking things through carefully and critically (my vote is in this bucket). In which case people shouldn?t take you so seriously because what you say has very little true meaning.

None of it is very flattering towards you, but for some reason a lot of us here just want to figure you out.

wow

great post and insight into hedgieisms

It is amazing what you are trying to use for 'logic'. I really thought you were smarter than that.

Or did you simply not put the / in there to let people know you were being sarcastic?

you do know who signed the defense of marriage act, don`t you poon?...was he a bigot?....

it certainly looks like inertia is squarely pointing in the direction of gay marriage being recognized.....

i`m just not ready to label every person with traditional beliefs as a bigot or a homophobe...

how you can take such a narrow minded view of my explanation surprises me...obama himself just recently changed his mind on the issue...

does that make him a bigot?....

you seem to be the most intolerant regarding the issue...ready to ascribe nefarious motives to people who hold a different point of view...

personally,i`m more worried about the economy, the deficit, the fact that my investments are earning basically zilch and the dollar seems to be heading south.....

if it`s decided that gays can marry, fine,i`m o.k. with it...if not,i`m not throwing myself off a bridge...

btw...you also have to understand my dilemma...on the one hand i want imfeklhr to have it if he damned well wants it.....salt of the earth,imo...

on the other hand,i`m basically opposed to pretty much anything that trampled underfoot is a proponent of....

:mj03: ..........

seriously...the recognition of gay marriage in this country is only a matter of time...i think everybody understands that to be the case...

You really think it just boils down to the liberal's piling on Hedgehog?

Of course it does....It is a daily ritual & frankly it is sickening to see many threads turn into a Hedge bash !!....Some of you guys act like you are waiting in the bushes for him to say something that you disagree with & then pounce on him with everything you can think of....It amazes me how grown people act sometimes on this forum....If you disagree with him, disagree with him, don't personally atttack him....He is entitled to his opinion without the usual gang pouncing on him....

As far as this issue is concerned I think anybody who contributes to society by working & paying taxes is entitled to the same happiness than everybody else....So I have no problem with gays getting married, but I agree with DTB that it should be up to the states to decide by ballot....

What I find utterly ridiculous is how people try to invoke religion into the argument. It has nothing to do with it. This is strictly about CIVIL UNIONS. It is not about trying to force anyone other than the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to recognize the union of a civil marriage between two people regardless of gender as legal. That is it. It is about equitable and fair treatment of all the citizens that already equitably contribute to the sovereignty of our nation. It isn't a question of morality and it isn't even a social issue. It's a simple and straightforward question of the constitutionality of depriving a select group of citizens their civil rights. All the other crap is nothing more than an obfuscation of the issue in an effort to raise doubt and confuse the question.

i was reading a little about the issue after reading this thread and it seems that no matter how this thing swings, there will probably be unintended consequences...

if the court strikes down the part of doma it`s ruling on,there may still a long struggle ahead...i would think that if doma goes, then prop 8 in cali gets upheld(along with the 30 other states that voted against gay marriage)...that is unless state circuit courts overturn the will of the people...can you be married in one state and not another?...how`s that equal protection under the law?....

probably better in the long run, though, because you have to get your foot in the door at some point...

pretty complex issue....interesting times we live in...
