the Supreme Court will make a ruling and then we will go from there

I believe marriage is one man and one woman:shrug:

So since that is your belief, do also believe that they should not be entitled to their life partners benefits when they pass away? Let me give you a scenario, a Navy Corpsman is killed trying to save the life of a Marine wounded in battle. The Marine also perishes. Both have twenty two years of service. The Corpsman is gay and has been with the same person for 25 years while the Marine married his 5th wife just before leaving Indonesia and shipped her back to the U.S. She arrived two weeks prior to his death. So you think she should be entitled to lifelong benefits, but the Corpsman's partner should be immediately escorted to the front gate and kicked off the base because he doesn't have the same rights as the Indonesian immigrant that doesn't even know how to say United States yet?
Yeah, you stick by those beliefs and keep telling yourself that they are reasonable and not biased towards bigotry.

Hope that helps,
FDC

survivor benefits is the first issue I have with it. insurance companies having to cover spouse, definition of marriage is in question. if it is legalized, why not plural marriages, or marrying your dog

many Americans disagree with gay marriage, if they pass it, hopefully the politicians will tax the hell out of them at least. Since they mostly do not have kids, they should pay more of their fair share, make it expensive for these people at least...gay tax bracket

You do realize that Jesus had two Dads and I am pretty sure he turned out okay.

TOn a final note, I am curious as to why you made two FB posts on this subject last night, only to have your ass handed to you, and now both are deleted? It almost seems as if you are embarrassed or unwilling to express your views to a more mixed crowd. I understand though. If I were completely ignorant to the facts, I wouldn't want to make a fool of myself either.

Hope that helps,
FDC

Of course it does....It is a daily ritual & frankly it is sickening to see many threads turn into a Hedge bash !!....Some of you guys act like you are waiting in the bushes for him to say something that you disagree with & then pounce on him with everything you can think of....It amazes me how grown people act sometimes on this forum....If you disagree with him, disagree with him, don't personally atttack him....He is entitled to his opinion without the usual gang pouncing on him....

As far as this issue is concerned I think anybody who contributes to society by working & paying taxes is entitled to the same happiness than everybody else....So I have no problem with gays getting married, but I agree with DTB that it should be up to the states to decide by ballot....

I've always wondered if I would have been man enough to march with Martin Luther King Jr.

I guess this is my modern chance to find out and I plan to be able to tell my children and their children that, "Your damn right Peepaw was a part of the equality movement in the early 21-teens. Some poor bastards were against equality and supported the other side by getting a #2 at the chic-fil-a. Which reminds me, Y'all kids go to school and don't do drugs, mmmkkk."

Bullshit. This should not even be a god damned issue in 2013. If homosexuals want to marry no state should deny them this right. What the fuck is wrong with some of you? There is no middle ground here it is just people making excuses to keep others down. Those people are usually the ones bitching about their freedoms. Well fuck you and your freedom if you are denying others their freedom.

well then who should decide?...the supreme court doesn`t seem to want to fool with it...you obviously aren`t willing to let the people of each respective state decide their own issues........

some higher power?....we don`t live in an oligarchy....we don`t have a king or an imam to issue dictates....

you?.....

Typically when politicos say let the states decide, they are simply skirting the issue. The problem with saying let the states decide it in this particular issue is that the state legislation doesn't have authority to rule in Federal matters. That is the whole reason it is in the Supreme Court, this is to decide on the eligibility of those who are currently in or want to enter into a gay marriage to receive Federal Benefits and establish an inter-state recognition of civil unions regardless of state law.

you`re an emotional wreck,dude....really difficult to hold a converstion with you...

we have three separate and (supposedly) equal branches of government..and a constitution...theres a framework for making decisions...a process involved and that`s why we live in the country that more people around the world would like to live in than any other....

issues don`t get decided on emotion....

it`s gonna happen....so climb down off the ceiling and pop 3 mg`s of melatonin....you`ll feel better n about 45 minutes......

sheesh....

GW ? can you point me to where I?ve called anyone besides Hedgehog a bigot? I?ll wait, take your time searching it real thorough. I?m sure it is a long list and it will take you some time.

There are reasons I refer to him as that, if you don?t get that, well it?s just a repeat of a past thread where we discussed it. Go use the search function and look that one up too. Or should I just point you to the thread where he admitted that he himself was a bigot?

I?m just amazed that you, or anyone, actually think its fine to sit on the sidelines on this topic, ?if it happens and is allowed by law or the majority vote, so be it?. Great thinking there. Such a shame that the silent majority is losing its grip on our society and laws. Sorry if I speak up about things that offend me and it offends you that I do this so adamantly. Here is a news flash, I?m not going to stop speaking up on it, as long as there are guys like Hedgesimpleton popping off like they do. I know I know, I hate their hate and that doesn?t make my side/view right either. Keep repeating that I guess if it makes you feel better.

AR ? my point was it isn?t about what side of the political fence you are on. I am far from liberal (I know that still shocks the hell out of DTB). I could care less what political affiliation anyone is, when they are spouting the crap that he does.

everything is so much easier and less complicated when broken down to 4th grade social studies class. Thanks for this refresher, gives me a nice warm and fuzzy feeling. Oh shoot, that may be emotions creeping into the discussion. Crap, what to do now.

That is the whole reason it is in the Supreme Court, this is to decide on the eligibility of those who are currently in or want to enter into a gay marriage to receive Federal Benefits and establish an inter-state recognition of civil unions regardless of state law.

ithe supreme court is also trying their best to shirk making a decision...that`s how divided people are on this issue...they don`t want to touch it either...

as far as eligibility for benefits and rights,i think most people are for that...i would surmise that most agree on spousal rights for issues like federal bennies and such....i think "marriage" is the issue....

many people think that "marriage" is and has been throughout history limited to one man and one woman(at least in western society)...if marriage is just the union of consenting adults, there is no legal principle to explain why it`s only two....or not a brother and sister...or any combination of consenting people...that`s the slippery slope argument...

i believe theres over 50 nations that have legal polygamy, and many people are denied immigration into this country because we refuse to recognize polygamous marriages, which are recognized and perfectly legal in their country....

and there are peripheral issues like religion..certain religions could be forced to go against their own doctrine by being forced to recognize and perform gay marriages....and there you get into a freedom(or infringement) of religion argument...

you can imagine the shitstorm if the government tried forcing the church to perform gay marriages and ended up trying to strip their tax exempt status....

i mean, agree or not,it`s a multi-faceted issue...that`s why everyone is avoiding it like the plague...

there are other issues that are more important to me....like feeding my family and trying to bring in more money from the hard work i put in over the course of my lifetime(through investments etc) than i`m actually paying in taxes...i`d like to leave something for the little weasels....

i`m for gay partners rights and benefits...and i`m fine if gay marriage becomes law...

it`s not an issue that i`m passionate about...sorry if that offends you...
