On the course!
Over or Under 1K?

The gold right now is more a factor than the diamond.

Get a 10k gold for cheap, and an 18k for a small fortune.

If money is a problem......head to the pawn shop. You might find a real bargain in there!

Upstairs watching sports on the big TV.
so what does a one carat ring cost these days?

I personally have friends in the biz...a carat stone ....a carat consists of 100 points....nature did not pump out exact weight stones.

A short carat is 93-99 points, they will cost less, yet be called a carat.

Cut, clarity, color, the 3 "c"s...predicate value..

Color scales go D best, e, f, g, h, i,j,k,l,m and so on...

h,i,...is mid range good quality, best value.

Cut....round most popular, oval least.

Clarity goes flawless at top, vvsi (very very slight inclusion), vsi, vs,
si, si1, si2, I, I1, I2.
Best value is si-si1..(slight inclusion, flaw under 10 power magnification),

I would go for a certified stone either EGL (european grading lab) or GIA (gemological institute of america)..
These are grading guarantees that insures you are not getting a doctored overpriced piece of crap.

I would check around with Diamond merchants in your area the standard pricing reference for diamonds is a "Rap" sheet

"Rapaport sheet" it breaks dealer cost down...it is kind of a wholesale pricing guide.

You should be able to find a certified, stone at the retail level,
for that price level..

Cliff notes. 93-99 point round cut,
certified egl, gia, si1 quality, h or I color.

Off the top of my head, been awhile for me, about $2500-$2700.

The wife said what you have already figured out, she wants a bigger rock. She also said that a lot of places will take back the original ring for the same you paid for it as long as you double up or more. Regardless this aint gonna be cheap bud, GL:sadwave:

i dont think she will trade that ring in. Im assuming she wants a bigger ring. Im just going to come out and ask her what does she really want. It was going to be a surprise but i doubt thats going to happen now.

It can still be a surprise, it's all in the presentation. Figure a way to tell her she's getting it but let HER pick it out. Put her on a budget, she will understand, but letting HER pick it out makes it much better for her, IMO. Plus, she gets what she wants. :0008

I agree if she picks it out it would be better because it would be the ring she wants
