in the Jobs bill:
"Pass this jobs bill, and starting tomorrow, small businesses will get a tax cut if they hire new workers or raise workers? wages. "
Hmm. From other threads here - demand is what causes employers to hire. BUT, Obama wants small businesses to hire people or raise their wages so that they can get a tax cut.
Net jobs created : ZERO
"Pass this jobs bill, and companies will get a $4,000 tax credit if they hire anyone who has spent more than six months looking for a job."
Same as above - net jobs created: ZERO
"Pass this jobs bill, and companies will get extra tax credits if they hire America?s veterans."
Again - no demand, no new hires. touchy-feely but won't make someone hire.
"Pass this jobs bill, and thousands of teachers in every state will go back to work. "
Good and bad, IMO. Jobs are good but i'd rather see jobs created in the private sector v public sector as the public jobs still have to be paid with taxes, not out of profit.
"It will rehabilitate homes and businesses in communities hit hardest by foreclosures."
Why? Why rehabilitate foreclosed homes to add more homes to the backlog of unsold new and foreclosed homes? I'd rather see a construction firm paid to bulldoze the homes. Prices can not rise until there is demand. Lower the supply.
"The plan also extends unemployment insurance for another year."
Good and bad for me. i'd hate to think of people on unemployment losing their coverage. However, coverage is at 99 weeks already. Now they will add another 52 weeks to it? Yes - it is money coming into the economy but where is the money coming from? it is either being taken out of the economy via taxes or it is being borrowed.
"Pass this jobs bill, and the typical working family will get a fifteen hundred dollar tax cut next year."
Good. Any tax cut for working families will get applause from me.
"I?ll also offer ideas to reform a corporate tax code that stands as a monument to special interest influence in Washington. By eliminating pages of loopholes and deductions, we can lower one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world."
Bravo. Too long in coming. I hope that it happens.
I see good and bad in this proposal. I give him credit. At least it is a start. i'm not convinced that this isn't just the start of his re-election campaign but we will see.
I do know that I do not envy the position that he is in
