Just saw this on Facebook - perhaps somewhat appropriate to this discussion?

Not my idea nor writing, but I thought it kind of appropriate for many responses in here and elsewhere... CL.

Are you sick of high paid teachers? Teachers? hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work 9 or 10 months a year! It?s time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do - baby sit! We can get that for less than minimum wage.

That?s right. Let?s give them $3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked; not any of that silly planning time, or any time they spend before or after school. That would be $19.50 a day (7:45 to 3:00 PM
with 45 min. off for lunch and plan ? that equals 6 1/2 hours).

Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children.

Now how many do they teach in day?maybe 30? So that?s $19.50 x 30 = $585.00 a day. However, remember they only work 180 days a year!!! I am not going to pay them for any vacations.

LET?S SEE?. That?s $585 X 180= $105,300 peryear. (Hold on! My calculator needs new batteries).

What about those special education teachers and the ones with Master?s degrees? Well, we could pay them minimum wage ($7.75), and just to be fair, round it off to $8.00 an hour. That would be $8 X 6 1/2 hours X 30 children
X 180 days = $280,800 per year.

Wait a minute ? there?s something wrong here! There sure is!

The average teacher?s salary (nation wide) is $50,000. $50,000/180 days = $277.77/per day/30 students=$9.25/6.5 hours = $1.42 per hour per student?a very inexpensive baby-sitter and they even EDUCATE your
kids!)

Is that how you view yourself and the teachers, as a baby sitter?

No, I don't. I value teachers extremely highly, and hope to be a good one soon. I probably value them too highly, to be honest.

However, I certainly feel that many parents do consider them babysitters (the ones complaining about what am I gonna do with my kid today, since the teacher's are gone idea comes to mind for example) - and if you don't think that's true, then you aren't around many kids, parents, or teachers very often. I think you mentioned your mother being a teacher at some point? Perhaps she has felt like that from time to time? Perhaps not.

The POINT of the post was to compare the two and measure rates of pay, income, etc. I certainly don't think it a stretch for some to consider the two to be similar in many respects - especially to hear some of the arguments about teachers being "so well compensated for what they do."

He didn't miss it. . . he's ignoring it. :0008

No,

Smarmy one I am not ignoring it,

I do realize that there are many flat dick parental units who utilize the school system as a daycare.
There are educators who are unpaid and over worked, the whole business is a DOTFA.

A question for you, bbc?

Do you do anything significant? Do you produce anything? Do you supply anything insightful here or are you just a shit vulture lurking around trying to stir the pot of shit?

What do you do, really? You seem to have way too much free time on your hands after you are done rubbing up against your boss'es legs.

And before you try to whack me, yes I have plenty of free time, because .....

Cmon lumi he is dead on. i coached baseball a few years and this was also a big part on why i stopped. i felt like a glorified baby sitter to most of these kids. loved when some of the parents didn't even show up to pick up their kids and stuck me with that job also. Taking them home that is.

I used to coach Babe Ruth Baseball. 13 - 15 year olds. Did it for four years and was just burnt out. That was about 6 - 8 hours a week practice time and 2 games per week for 3 months. Just too much baby sitting especially if teenage girls came to watch. We were much more laid back than those coaches that win at all costs. Those guys must take a lot of meds.

The point of the article was not that teachers are just baby sitters. It is that they are being paid even less than baby sitters.

I do therapy with kids, a lot of which takes place in the classroom. Let me tell you something, teachers are brave souls. 25-30 kids and your responsible for the well being of each one, and also have to edumicate each one of em.

Unreal how much work teachers do that goes unnoticed. I would easliy rank it as one of the more stressful jobs I have seen. The grading tests, assignments, and homework is just part of the job that most people think about. The countless hours spent re-directing children, prompting children, and also disciplining them, which is almost impossible to do now, is what makes it tough. I would have no problem seeing teachers get paid more, ecspecially when it is broken down and you realize that BABYSITTERS are paid more per hour.

TEACHERS ARE SOME OF THE MOST CRUCIAL AND INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN A CHILDS LIFE. THEY DESERVE TO BE COMPENSATED WELL FOR ALL THEY DO.

If you cant tell, I appreciate teachers.

My father, Mother, stepmother, and three of my siblings are teachers.:0074

This is really bothering me so I will point it out so you don't look like a moron in the future.

It's tenure. Not ten year. Jesus.

Ten Year? LFAO! The donkey is opposed to something; he doesn't even know what he's opposed to, or why it exists.

And there you have it, Tramp, the ultimate argument against universal suffrage.

No surprise that we're #23 on the list of educated countries.
