Weirdness in Kentucky

The increasingly strange behavior of Republican Sen. Jim Bunning has led to speculation that he is suffering from some kind of dementia -- and tightened a race he once had in his pocket. (2004)

I meant to post something about this asshole. I can't believe someone isn't unemployed on this board. I'm surprised someone didn't post this earlier. While I appreciate his sudden concern for the budget, he is so detached from reality its unreal. How many people didn't get checks this week because he wanted some attention? Some of those people are living paycheck to paycheck. The wrong issue to pull this crap on.

yeah...what an idiot..he`d rather the government obey the law that was just passed (pay as you go)rather than adding more dead weight onto our already crushing, enormous deficit.....

this makes what?..2 fricking years of unemployment benes every working stiff is on the hook for?....

almost 2 years!...

they could easily have found some pork to cut to pay for this....but,that`s not their style...

breaking this country...that`s their style...

healthcare should push us over the precipice..and guess what?...the feds are STILL exempt from whatever garbage they foist on the sand poundingly ignorant public....

it`s so surreal...if it wasn`t so dangerous and destructive, it`d almost be funny...

You realize Bunning voted against the pay as you go bill.

Do you know why they call it unemployment insurance?

Everything you post can be dismantled so easily. Keep trying though.

Another point to make because I love mocking gw. This stops benefits after 26 weeks. Why don't you read before just flapping your uneducated lips.

who cares whether he voted for it?...it`s now written into law...about a month ago?....

shows you exactly what laws mean to the party in power...

unemployment insurance?....26 weeks?...it`s been extended for nearly 2 years,brainiac...

that`s welfare...they`re enablers..little incentive to find work....

Well, I for one am currently receiving partial unemployment benefits, and am busting my ass to take a full load at school, including summers, and paying for my entire school bill out of my own pocket. It certainly matters to me, and there certainly - at this point in our economic history - better places to try to make a political point. WHICH IS ALL THIS IS. A POLITICAL POINT, that hurts people. I don't consider myself unincentivized, far from it. I'm busting my ass, and it's not my fault I got my hours cut, and it's not my paycheck signers fault, either.

The fact that the PayGo issue is important here, is because he was so against it, and now he's making this the central issue behind why he's against this particular issue. Of course he's for every possible upper class benefit he can vote for, which is another issue, but this is the wrong place to make a stand.

Blocking this bill will put thousands of EMPLOYED private citizens out of work, when the highway bill is not voted in. Part of this bill. This is NOT the time to make a stand against unemployment benefits. Plenty of other things to make a stand about.

What Bunning did was deny benefits to people after 26 weeks. It stopped the federal benefits. So that means, his actions cut benefits down to 26 weeks. Should be an easy thing for even you to understand.

He voted against the measure, so what the fuck is he going grandstanding and denying people money they have a right to. People pay into the program, when they get laid off they deserve some of that back. Thats why its called insurance.

Anything else?

it`s called taking a principled stand...

this shows how uninformed you are...he didn`t deny shit...nobody`s missing their hand-out....

the question you have to answer is,"who the hell is paying for all this largesse?"... ,being that the government is busted?...flat broke..in hock up to our gonads to china, japan etc?.....

"thinking " doesn`t occur to guys like you...you don`t think about ramifications...the real world...

you`re just used to getting stuff for free...

well, che`,when those of us footing the bill for you run out of jack, what then?...

Wease, you talk about working stiffs that are paying for this. I'm paying for this, while receiving this. I've paid out my ass to pay for others on welfare for a long time. There are a lot of people who USED to be working stiffs before the economy went to shit, and now they aren't. And it's not always their fault.

It's so easy for people who are employed and have people pay them benefits to be oblivious to recent hardships that are affecting millions of people in this country. We're in a tough time right now, and some people need to open their eyes and be realistic about some things. Interesting to see one other poster in here that up until about a week ago talking about how happy he was with his insurance, and then I see him wailing about the increase he is now going to have to pay. Happiness is a relative thing. Amazing how your perspective changes from time to time, when something touches you personally.

chad...all due respect...unemployment benes weren`t designed as a vehicle to enable people to further their higher education...it was intended as a 26 week safety net...

not a 92 week vacation with no end in sight...

What the fuck are you talking about? Some people didn't get checks this week because of that asshole. Better recheck your facts, Skippy.

And it's a lot easier to take a stand, when you're not facing hardships yourself. I think we all know where Mr. Bunning's allegiances lie - he's not one known to face many hardships, and he's pretty well known to support those who also don't face many hardships. Interesting time to make a stand, don't you think?

With all due respect - sort of - the unemployment benefits I've received have not done anything to enable me to further my education. The amount of money I've received - a partial benefit - wouldn't go very far in paying for anything, I assure you.

AND, interesting you take this position now - it's intended as a safety net, but when arguing the opposite side, you call it a vacation. I think you'd have a pretty damn hard time pulling off what I've been pulling off since I was partially layed off and able to take this "vacation" I've been on. Trying to keep my composure here, but I can't expect you to understand something you don't have to deal with, and don't care much to think about, either.
