Jim Bunning: Why I took a stand

?If the Senate cannot find $10 billion to pay for a measure we all support, we will never pay for anything.?

<INTRO><MORE>By Jim Bunning
I have been serving the citizens of <KWD title="More news, photos about Kentucky" href="http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/Places,+Geography/States,+Territories,+Provinces,+Islands/U.S.+States/Kentucky" gen="auto">Kentucky for nearly 24 years in Washington. During that time I have been a member of both the <KWD title="More news, photos about House of Representatives" href="http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/Organizations/Government+Bodies/U.S.+House+of+Representatives" gen="auto">House of Representatives and the United States Senate. I have taken thousands of votes in relation to spending the taxpayers' money. I will be the first one to admit that I have cast some bad votes during my tenure, and I wish I could have some of them back. For too long, both Republicans and <KWD title="More news, photos about Democrats" href="http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/Organizations/Political+Bodies/Democratic+Party" gen="auto">Democrats have treated the taxpayers' money as a slush fund that does not ever end. At some point, the madness has to stop.</KWD></KWD></KWD>

</MORE></INTRO>
http://www.madjacksports.com/forum/Over a month ago, Democrats passed and President Obama signed into law the "Pay-Go" legislation. It calls on Congress to pay for bills by not adding to our debt. It sounds like a common sense tool that would rein in government spending. Unfortunately, Pay-Go is a paper tiger. It has no teeth. I did not vote for the Democrats' Pay-Go legislation because I knew it was just a political dog-and-pony show to get some good press after some political setbacks. Since the Pay-Go rule was enacted, the national debt has gone up $244,992,297,448.11 (as of Wednesday, that is).
<SUBHED>Why now?
Last week, Majority Leader <KWD title="More news, photos about Harry Reid" href="http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/People/Politicians,+Government+Officials,+Strategists/U.S.+Senators/Harry+Reid" gen="auto">Harry Reid, D-Nev., asked to pass a 30-day extensions bill for unemployment insurance and other federal programs. Earlier in February, those extensions were included in a broader bipartisan bill that was paid for but did not meet Sen. Reid's approval, and he nixed the deal. When I saw the Democrats in Congress were going to vote on the extensions bill without paying for it and not following their own Pay-Go rules, I said enough is enough.</KWD>
Many people asked me, "Why now?" My answer is, "Why not now?" Why can't a non-controversial measure in the Senate that would help those in need be paid for? If the Senate cannot find $10 billion to pay for a measure we all support, we will never pay for anything.
America is under a mountain of debt. <KWD title="More news, photos about Federal Reserve" href="http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/Organizations/Government+Bodies/Federal+Reserve" gen="auto">Federal Reserve Chairman <KWD title="More news, photos about Ben Bernanke" href="http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/People/Politicians,+Government+Officials,+Strategists/Ben+Bernanke" gen="auto">Ben Bernanke said in a hearing last month that the United States' debt is unsustainable. We are on the verge of a tipping point where America's debt will bring down our economy, and more people will join the unemployment lines. That is why I used my right as a United States Senator and objected.</KWD></KWD>
<SUBHED>Only in Washington
After four legislative days of impasse, I reached a supposed deal with Majority Leader Reid to have an up-or-down vote on a pay-for amendment that would fully fund the legislation and not add to the debt. Only minutes before the vote, Democrats used a parliamentary maneuver to set aside my amendment and not vote on the actual substance of it. Only in Washington could this happen. The Democrats did not want to vote on my amendment because they knew they were in the wrong and ignored their own rules. Hypocrisy again rules the day in Washington.
I have 40 grandchildren, and I want them to grow up in a country where they have all of the same opportunities I had as a child. I fear that they will not have those opportunities if Washington continues on its course of spending without paying for it. We are at over $12 trillion in debt. I know many Americans sit around their kitchen table and make the tough decisions. It is time for the politicians in Washington to do the same.

I already read that piece. Some of us do our homework before posting.

So I was right. He voted against it. Then he has the nerve to quote it when he makes a BS stand.

Why doesn't he take a stand on something that doesn't cost poor people the rent or food. What an asshole.

You keep on lookin' like an asshole, DTB. Go figure.

Another DTB classic. When you are defeated, change the subject. An odd choice though. You brought up a thread where you basically are fucking up Madjacks business with your racist comments. Good job.

Think for yourself one time, so ridiculous.

Bunning voted for the bank bail outs as well as the credit card industry and many other billion dollar industries, who have all applied for federal assistance to rejuvenate their corporations; all at the tax payers' expense. That was during the Bush administration as I'm sure you forgot like McCain.:mj07: :mj07: :mj07: :mj07:

Hypo, hypo, hypocrite.:mj07: What a great day! The talking pinhead points of the rebs are hilarious!

Lets not forget Bunning's classy comment of "Tough Shit" when another senator reminded him that his actions are putting Americans on the street. The unemployed should get together and camp out on his front yard.

This is pretty simple, the Democrats are talking SHIT about PAY GO and they suspend the PAY GO rule when nobody is looking, stop bragging about PAY GO if you're not doing it

Man you are a douche.

How do you know his parents have not passed?

Maybe your parents bailed your ass out over and over again but most of us have not done that.

i don`t wish trampled or his family ill health or misfortune.....we disagree...this is still the u.s.a....we do that here...vigorously...

that`s what real parents do(help their children)...i hope for your sake yours helped you,but from your limited responses, this might not be the case...

that`s why i`m responsible.....everyone wants their kids to start off with more than they did...and theirs with more than their parents did...that`s why the older folks get,the more frugal and responsible they become...experience and leaving something for their progeny...

normal people get help from their parents(when possible),and then hopefully exceed their standard of living ..the natural progression...one generation gives the next a running start...

think about it...

don`t want to stay too long(lest the dumb jump off of you and onto me)....:sadwave:

btw...shawnee..lighten up...laugh...have SENSE OF HUMOR... ..life`s too short...;)

Farrakhan, Wright and Pfleger to Receive 'Living Legends' Award

Thursday, March 04, 2010

By Bill O'Reilly<SCRIPT type=text/javascript _extended="true">farkItButton('Farrakhan, Wright and Pfleger to Receive \'Living Legends\' Award','','16x16',false);</SCRIPT><SCRIPT type=text/javascript src="http://d.yimg.com/ds/badge2.js" _extended="true" badgetype="logo" ____yb="1"></SCRIPT>
An unbelievable show this Friday night in Chicago. Together on one stage: Louis Farrakhan, Jeremiah Wright and radical priest Michael Pfleger.
They will all be receiving an award called "Living Legends," and you can see it as a VIP if you have a hundred bucks.
The spectacle is being driven by Rev. Wright, who is actually giving himself the "Living Legend" award, as well as the other two guys. There's no third party involved.
All the money people pay to see this dog-and-pony show will go to Rev. Wright's charity. Pfleger will get a bit of it, and so will the Haitian singer Wyclef Jean.
Don't you love this?
Rev. Wright is honoring himself, Farrakhan and Pfleger, and is charging money for the exposition. Is America not a great country?
The serious part of the story is Father Pfleger, a radical-left Catholic priest who runs St. Sabina parish on Chicago's South Side. Pardon the pun, but what in God's name is Pfleger doing on the same stage as Farrakhan, a race-baiting anti-Semite? Why is the archdiocese of Chicago permitting that?
We contacted Archbishop Francis George, but the head of Chicago's 2.4 million Catholics has no comment.
Are you kidding me? This is a scandal. You can't have a Catholic priest whose message should be peace on earth, goodwill to men, standing there with a hateful guy like Farrakhan. I mean, Wright is bad, but Farrakhan is nuclear. This is unbelievable.
Just in case you missed "The Factor" Tuesday night, here's a taste of what Farrakhan said just last Sunday:

BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
LOUIS FARRAKHAN, NATION OF ISLAM LEADER: The white right is trying to set Barack up to be assassinated. There are Christians?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yeah, yes, sir.
FARRAKHAN: ?praying for God to kill Barack Obama. He wants to write a new page with the Muslim world, but the Zionists won't let him. Now they got him with a mustache like Hitler.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Right.
FARRAKHAN: I thought I was the new black Hitler.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
Again, Archbishop of Chicago Francis George will not comment about one of his priests being honored with Farrakhan and Wright.
"Talking Points" has no problem with these three men speaking about anything. They have First Amendment rights. But the whole deal is so bizarre, we thought you should know about it.
"Living Legends" indeed.

Well there's 2 people who shouldn't be taken seriously, Bill O' REALLY ? And Loius Farrakhan. Both of them are bomb throwers and Rev. Wright and Father Pfleger certainly don't shy away from pissing on a spark plug.

Just a general question to pose here. Was thinking about this today, in regards to unemployment - and specifically the recent unemployment situation. While I don't have the historical unemployment figures in front of me, let's just use a base number of say, 5%. When the typical number runs around that, the economy goes to shit, and twice as many people become unemployed - to current numbers, what kind of people do you think those people are? Are they lazy? Worthless? Not hard working? Unworthy of consideration or help?

Considering that they were people who had jobs and most lost them through nothing of their own doing, and there are far fewer jobs available, does it seem like a good time to look away from them? These were people who up until they were laid off wore the label "hard working" from conservatives, paid taxes, which helped pay for unemployment for others.

Don't we have welfare limitations for people now? Aren't there time limits as to how long people can draw unemployment? More specifically, other than the recent economy-related extensions, don't people run out of benefits at some point? If those people do run out of benefits, and somehow are able to get more, isn't THAT the real concern for people? Shouldn't it be? Not base unemployment, but abuse of the system, if there is abuse?

I guess I honestly don't know the situation. It is my understanding that people can only draw it for so long. And if that's not the case - that should be changed. But to draw the line on extensions which pretty much go to help newly distressed people, seems to be a bad place to make a stand in our current economy.

I didn't need to read your entire post Chad, it's simple.

If their are massive layoffs, and unemployment skyrockets, they are lazy, drug addicted, mentally challenged slugs !
