Approximately 1 month ago Pacific played Santa Clara at home and won by nearly 30. Tonight, Pacific goes on the road to Santa Clara. Santa Clara's leading scorer, Kevin Foster is out according to sources with an injured ankle. Now Santa Clara scored 57 points in the last meeting not even a month ago. Guess how many of those points were scored by Foster?

If you guessed 50% you were close. He scored 22 of the 57 points that night.

I think Pacific, who has no injuries listed can cover the 5 on the road tonight. A No Brainer actually.

10 unit play. Load up fellas:00hour

Appalacian State seems like a good play tonight also, with the top 3 scorers for Dayton out.

3 units Appalacian State +13 1/2

DAYTON ? The University of Dayton basketball team will be without three of its top four scorers against Appalachian State tonight, Dec. 21, meaning all able-bodied regulars will have to play extended minutes in a game for the second time in three days.

But with Christmas break for the Flyers set to start Tuesday, coach Brian Gregory isn?t too worried about sending his players home a little fatigued.

?They?ve got a week off,? he said. ?They can rest at home over the next three days. Plus, their parents will probably like them better sleeping and not awake.?

Two players were injured in a physical, 71-52 victory over Presbyterian College on Saturday, joining 3-point specialist Luke Fabrizius (knee) on the sidelines.

Marcus Johnson, third on the team in scoring (8.0 average), sprained his left ankle and was in a walking boot at practice Sunday. His X-rays were negative, though, and he could return for UD?s first game after Christmas on Dec. 29 against Boston University.

But Chris Johnson, who is second on the team in scoring (12.1) and rebounding (6.2), suffered a concussion and is out indefinitely.

?Concussions are anywhere from 5 to 10 days,? Gregory said Sunday. ?He?s feeling a lot better today. But in the first 48 hours, it?s really important that he do nothing but rest.?

Although their 11-man rotation has been trimmed to eight, the Flyers don?t have the luxury of wallowing in self pity.

Appalachian State (7-4), coached by former North Carolina standout Buzz Peterson, is an offensive-minded team coming off a win at Robert Morris, the defending Northeast Conference champion.

?They?ve got every angle covered to have a good team,? Gregory said. ?They?re really starting to buy into Buzz?s system ? high intensity, fast tempo. And you can see them really starting to jell together. It?s another (opponent) I really believe will be playing in the postseason.?

Appalacian will put up a better fight than Presbyterian College.

I love all the horsemen posting in this forum!!

Maybe we can all meet at Yonkers or Belmont next year.

Sorry Tony....we have to meet at a New York track because NJ horseracing is garbage!

No offense.

And FCP.......Keep me posted on that NY bred pacer. I will be there when he races. If he races in the NY area.

Yes, the Ponies in NJ are quite depressing. Get down to Freehold once in a while, but not too exciting.

I really do not see Santa Clara keeping this one under double digits. How many points do you give for home court 10? I'll take that they still win by double digits in my opinion.

Had a rough weekend, gonna make it up here. GL to all!!!:)

I understand the locig of this play but wasn't there a trend last season when a team was blown out the first time they usually won or at least covered in the re-match?

hey owtcast.......where do you race? I am in NY and I have a trotting mare who had a filly in March and is in foal to Cash Hall again.

I used to own thoroughbreds but they are way too fragile. I like to race every week.

Actually race all over but mainly PA and NY now. I cut back on my stable quite a bit thru the winter but will be picking up back in march. I still have around 5 right now but usually around 8-10 is what I have.

PACIFIC MEN'S BASKETBALL
Coach wants Tigers to focus

Pacific men's basketball coach Bob Thomason has his own theory about the fight or flight response when it comes to playing games in late December. He asks his players to keep their minds on the proverbial fight, but fears some will be more concerned with catching their flights.

"Sometimes I really worry about the games before the holidays because you're always making plans for the holidays rather than finishing the game," Thomason said.

Thomason said he needs his players' undivided attention when the Tigers play Santa Clara at 7 p.m. today at Leavey Center. The Tigers (7-3) beat the Broncos (6-5) by 27 points earlier this season in Stockton, but Thomason said it won't be that easy this time."We're on the road again, and we've got a dogfight. If our guys think it's any other way, it won't work out well for us," said Thomason, whose team is coming off an 80-65 loss at Saint Mary's in which they trailed by four with five minutes remaining. "I know we can win if we play well, but we've got to play a hard-fought game."

Senior center Michael Nunnally said it is important for the Tigers to rebound following the loss to Saint Mary's.

"We just have to bounce back and go hard," Nunnally said. "They're going to be ready for some of our plays, and they're going to be ready to come at us."

The Tigers held the Broncos to 33.3 percent shooting in an 84-57 victory on Nov. 22 at Spanos Center. Junior forward Sam Willard had 15 points and a career-high 13 rebounds with three assists and two steals.

Junior guards Terrell Smith and Demetrece Young scored 16 points apiece, and the Tigers shot 55.6 percent from the field while making 12 of 19 from 3-point range.

"We played really well when they played at our spot," Willard said. "Now we're going to their place, and we know they're going to bring it to us."

The Broncos won four out of five games soon after falling to Pacific, but they lost sophomore guard Kevin Foster in the process.

Foster fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot in a 79-68 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Dec.1 and will likely miss the rest of the season. He had 22 points, five steals and four rebounds against the Tigers in November.

Even without Foster, Thomason believes the Broncos will be tougher the second time around. They've lost only twice in the past month, falling 66-63 at home against UNLV and 70-57 on the road against Rice.

Thomason also notes that the Broncos haven't played since Wednesday, while his team played one of its most anticipated nonconference games Friday night at Saint Mary's.

"They've been sitting there for four or five days getting ready for us, and they're going to be totally ready for us," Thomason said.

"Anytime you get beat by as much as they got beat by us, they're really going to be ready to make some adjustments on how they play us."

Willard said the Tigers prefer a quick turnaround after fading in the final minutes against Saint Mary's.

"That's a good thing for us," Willard said. "We've got to play again (today), and we'll bounce back."
