thanks but i saw those and many others this afternoon when i searched around.

that cable pulls pulleys togethers and that's where the problem must be. i'll just have to check it out but that's gonna require taking a lot of stuff apart. maybe i'll just let sears do it. lol

I don't think taking the deck off will help. The problem is between the lever that you engage the blades and the mower deck.

If it's cables....on each end of the cable there should be set screws. This holds the outside of the cable (black) in place so the actuall cable wire can engage the blades.

Have someone look at the end of the cable when you move the lever.

1. The whole cable moves then tighten the set screws to the frame.

2. the cable buckles and the inside cable (wire)doesn't move then lube it with oil.
