Police arrest suspect in Bellagio theft
LAS VEGAS, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- The man believed to have stolen $1.5 million in chips from a craps table at the Bellagio casino has been arrested, Las Vegas police said Thursday.
Police said Anthony Carleo, 29, of Las Vegas, was arrested and charged with robbery with the use of a deadly weapon, burglary with use of a deadly weapon and trafficking in a controlled substance, Las Vegas Sun reported.
The arrest followed an investigation into the daring Dec. 14 robbery, police said. The drug trafficking count arose from officers' finding a large quantity of narcotics during the robbery investigation, police said.
Police allege Carleo parked a motorcycle outside of the casino, went to a craps table, revealed a gun and demanded chips. Investigators said robbery took about 3 minutes and the thief made off with chips in denominations as high as $25,000.
After the robbery, Bellagio owner MGM Resorts International said it was discontinuing its $25,000 denomination chips, the Sun said. Chip holders have until April 22 to redeem them before the chips become worthless.
The Bellagio also was the setting for a robbery of three casinos in the 2001 version of the caper movie "Ocean's 11."
