from the grapevine---

Tables Turned?

Connecticut Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman ? who's now running for re-election as an independent ? now leads the man who beat him in the Democratic primary by 12 points in a poll of likely voters of both parties.

Lieberman tops liberal Democrat Ned Lamont 53 percent to 41 percent in a new Quinnipiac poll, winning the support of 75 percent of Republicans.

Meanwhile, Lamont is working hard to recast himself as a more moderate Democrat for the general election. In a Wall Street Journal article, Lamont says he believes in employer-based universal health care, which would "[provide] tax benefits to small businesses so they can provide insurance without risking bankruptcy."

But Lamont blasted Lieberman for the same tax benefit plan three months ago saying, "He generally has not embraced a lot of the Democratic goals."

hopefully the people of conn. woke up & realized what is going on in the world....& know that lamont is the wrong choice at this time...

AR, your view shows typical narrow-mindedness. Some people don't realize that there are a number of ways to deal with the problem of Islamic jihadists. The only thing we know for sure is that the current policy is not working at all.

They are doing a good job so far at home, but it's the old Prisoner's Dilemma. No matter what type of security you put into prisons, you're always going to have escapes. That's because prisoners get to sit around all day coming up with ways to escape.

There will be a successful attack on American soil if we don't eliminate the root of the problem. You can't eliminate Islamic jihadism by "staying the course" or "adapting to win" (gotta love the new Republican spin) the way we are doing it now.

When you distill all of this stuff, here's my fundamental problem: Bush took us on the path of democratic globalism; i.e. using forced democracy as the antidote to Islamic jihadism. In return for the blood and treasure required for this strategy, people like Bush and Lieberman told us that we would eliminate (or at least greatly reduce) the hatred that leads to attacks from Islamic jihadists.

This strategy has failed. We've lost the blood and treasure, but we're less safe than ever. There are more people trying to attack us than ever and if we continue down this path, an attack will get through no matter how many preventative measures we take.

That's the foreign policy reason for rooting out people like Lieberman. My main objection with him is on domestic issues, but his foreign policy is retarded as well.

believe me nick, my political beliefs are much broader than yours....

i was just like you at one time..a naive liberal who thinks it's better to try & appease the enemy.i thought that since i'm a nice peaceful & law biding person,i'm sure other people are just like me..i thought that they have the same wants that i have for my family & myself....

but then i gradually awoke from my slumber & realized that these fanatics cannot be reasoned with...all they want to do is make everybody else think the same way that they think, pray to the same god that they pray to, etc., etc.....etc...

i'll just repeat what i posted before...hopefully one day you will wake up (doubt it) & realize (doubt it) that theory's don't work with alqaeda & the other animals that want to kill us...

You're getting bitter with age, my man. It happens to the best of us. My advice for you is to read the Qu'ran. You'll see that Muslims have nothing against Christians and Jews.

Does it really matter who is elected if they don't pay attention to info right under there chin. Like 9/11 It could have been stopped. Then we have the 9/11 commission that comes with over 35 things to make us safer. Everyone is appalled because about 6 have been completed. Why not more? Lack of cash all going to Iraq. Because this administration just keeps thinking it's smarter then everyone else and any of there suggestions. It's a dam good thing we only have to worry for 17 months and there out. Going way back to there first screw up 9/11 falling a sleep on the job. They only seem to be able to say one thing Iraq. They could'nt even finish the most important job Afghanistan. And mean while how many nukes has N Korea got.

Can't read Qu'ran Nick but can read newspapers--

-- every place in the world that there is genocide going on you have one common denominator--Muslims
---and by the why you can add Hindu-Buddist and any other religion to your short list of Christians and Jews--

Believers! wage war against such of the infidels as are your neighbors, and let them find you rigorous. 9:124

God loves not the false, the Infidel. 22:39

Give not way therefore to the Infidels, but by means ot this Koran strive
against them with a mighty strife. 25:54

O Prophet! Contend against the infidels and the hypocrites, and be rigorous
with them. 9:74

Make war upon such of those to whom the Scriptures have been given as
believe not in God, or in the last day, and who forbid not that which God
and His Apostle have forbidden, and who profess not the profession of the
truth. 9:29

And when the sacred months are passed, kill those who join other gods
with God wherever you shall find them; and seize them, besiege them,
and lay wait for them with every kind of ambush: but if they shall convert,
and observe prayer, and pay the obligatory alms, then let them go their
way. 9:5

O Beleivers! Take not the Jews or Christians as friends. They are
but one another's friends. If any one of you takes them for his
friends, he surely is one of them! 5:56

Of all men you will certainly find the Jews, and those who join other
gods with God, to be the most intense in hatred of those who believe;
and you shall certainly find those to be nearest in affection to them
who say, We are Christians.' This, because some of them are priests
and monks, and because they are free from pride. 5:85

here is some more enlightened thinking, right out of the Qu'ran:

Men are a step above women. 2:228

The curse of God on the infidels! 2:83

Say to the infidels: you shall be worsen, and to Hell shall you be
gathered together; and wretched the couch! 3:10

Men are superior to women on account of the qualities with which
God has gifted the one above the other. 4:38

If you be sick, or on a journey, or have come from the unclean place
or have touched a woman, and you find not water, then rub pure
sand, and bathe your face and your hands with it. 4:46

here is some more enlightened thinking, right out of the Bible:

1. In the Bible's book of Deuteronomy it says that if a man marries a woman and then decides that he hates her, he can claim she wasn't a virgin when they married. At that point her father must prove she was a virgin. (How is not explained.) If he can't, then the woman is to be stoned to death at her father's doorstep. (22:13-21)

2. If you see a pretty woman among your captives and would like her for a wife, then bring her home and "go in unto her." Later, if you decide you don't like her, you can simply "let her go." (Deuteronomy 21:11-14)

3. If a betrothed virgin is raped in the city and doesn't cry out loud enough, then "the men of the city shall stone her to death." (Deuteronomy 22:23-24)

4. In the book of Esther the king apparently decrees a sex contest among young virgin women to see who can best please him. He subsequently finds Esther the best at this, so he makes her queen. (Note ancient painting on the left.)

However, since women are viewed as inherently dirty, Esther must be "purified" for twelve months before she can be made queen. (Esther 2:8-9, 12-17)

5. Paul points out in New Testament Romans that "the natural use" of women is to provide men with sex. (Romans 1:27)

6. Heaven is to be inhabited by 144,000 virgin men who have not been "defiled" by women. (RE 14:1-4) [One wonders how this squares with God's command to, "Be fruitful and multiply...(Genesis 1:28)?]

7. A group of sexual depraved men beat on the door of an old man's house demanding that he turn over to them a male house guest. Instead, the old man offers his virgin daughter and his guest's wife: "Behold, here are my virgin daughter and his concubine (wife); let me bring them out now. Ravish them and do with them what seems good to you; but against this man do not do so vile a thing." The women were subsequently ravished and killed. (JG 19:22-29)

8. In Exod. 21:7 we see that it is permissible to sell one's daughter (but apparently not one's son) into slavery.

9. According to St. Jerome, "Nothing is so unclean as a woman in her periods; what she touches she causes to be unclean." In Leviticus (12:2:5) it states, "If a woman conceives and bears a male child, she shall be ceremonially unclean seven days...if she bears a female child she shall be unclean two weeks...."

10. "A woman dropped a stone on his head and cracked his skull. Hurriedly he called to his armor-bearer, 'Draw your sword and kill me, so that they can't say a woman killed me.' So his servant ran him through, and he died." (Judges 9:53-54)

11. Under God's direction, Moses' army kills all the adult males, but they mercifully just take the women and children captive. When Moses learns that they left some women and children alive, he angrily says: "Kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him." (31:1-54) Throughout Bible history God is said to demand that thousands, if not millions, of men, women and children be slaughtered. And they are.

12. And where do these go? - A man has an obligation to produce a child with his brother's widow. If he refuses, his sister-in-law is to spit in his face in front of the elders. (Deuteronomy 25:5-9) And in case you are Jewish, you may be familiar with the Jewish prayer: "Blessed be the God who has not created me a heathen, a slave or a woman."

And here is some wisdom from a prominent spokesman for the Christian right (Pat Robertson):

"The Feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians."

Religion is the most destructive and idiotic force in the history of man...from the Aztec sacrifices to the crusades or the jihads of the muslims. Yeah, there are some wacked out muslim terrorists and they are wreaking havoc on the world, no question. But my point is, religious beliefs should be a private and peaceful matter. We would all be better off leaving that crap out of our political/business life.

btw...(and a total tangent) what gave us the right to carve up a sovereign nation and give it to the jews? oh, thats right, it is the "promised" land. Total BS.

not sure i could find a single theological scholar who would give 2 cents worth of thought towards your interpretation/distortion of scripture

however, concerning the quran, the highlights i gave are rampant in the Islamic community

There is nothing wrong with Romans 1:27

I agree, religion in general has f-d up the globe for quite some time.

Islam sucks so much right now because they are about 500 years behind the other major religions on their maturity timeline. That's why I would like them to go away and not return until they grow up a bit.

I like how the Lieberman/Lamont thread became a discussion on the Quran. Well done, lads.

I see Mr. Freisz referenced, but I'm ignoring him, so I'll just assume that he's chiming in with his usual anti-Islam rhetoric.

DTB, you have to separate Islamic jihadists from the broader scope of Muslims. I agree 100% that we are at war with Islamic jihadists and that they are a serious threat to American security. The problem is that people are failing to separate Islamic jihadists from members of the Islamic movement who are taking a more political approach.

You are right that Muslims are anti-Hindu and anti-Buddhist. Muslims, Jews and Christians share a common history. If you actually talk to someone who has studied the Qu'ran carefully you'll find that they do believe denial of God's existence as a grave sin. That's where anti-Hindu and anti-Buddhist sentiments come from. Jews and Christians don't deny the existence of God.
