It used to be that when a whistle blew that was it. I remember many TOs overturned due to an "inadvertent whistle". How can you tell players that the rule is "stop when you hear the whistle" and then reward players who do things after the whistle?

Bottom line is that WAS a fumble and it actually hurt the Lions because it took away the return but the whistle was blown before there was a clear recovery. The ball should have stayed with the Saints.
