Catch one of these.....

fisherman-donates-rare-1-in-30-million-calico-lobster-to-aquarium

The aquarium's Ellen Goethel says calico lobsters are the second rarest in the world, after albino lobsters. She says the spots are the result of a genetic pigmentation mutation occurring in 1 in every 30 million to 50 million lobsters.

Not as rare as they claim...5 have been caught in our area this summer.....maybe they are just mating with their own kind.....

Hey Bad, where are you at in Islamorada? We have a place down there, our tenants were sending us pix of the mini lobsters they were getting. Sounds like a blast, we may make it down for one of the seasons. July only correct? Have had our place less than two years but love the area. Killer pix of lobsters, cool of you to run the contest!

tcon...Mini Lobster season is the last Wed & Thu of July. A 48 hour season before the commercial guys set their traps on Aug 1st to soak before the regular season opens on Aug 6. Mini season doesn't mean mini lobster, each one has to be measured. Commercial fisherman only allowed traps, general public has to dive or snorkel during daylight hours or bully net at night, like we did.

Let me know when you headed this way, OK to ask Jack for my e-mail...I'm right across US1 from Mangrove Mike's, walking distance to the Lor~e~lei...milemarker 82

Thanks for the info and heads up, never knew it was as technical on who can fish when. Just heard a lot about it and have a buddy that lives down there about MM 85. Pretty sure they mostly dive for them.

Really like Lor e li's go there for the sunset and a rum runner when we hit town. I'll be sure to give you heads up next time we head down there. Can't say enough about your neck of the woods down there, great people, climate and water second to none. Thanks Bad.
