I think I had a good long distance relationship for the books.
While I was in Okinawa, I was home on leave in WI and met a girl. Dated her for a week before I went back to okinawa and then we called and wrote back and forth for about 7 months. Pretty expensive phone conversations I gotta say. But "the relationship was obviously not based on sex"

After 7 months of letters and phone calls I flew her halfway out and met her in hawaii for two weeks for a "second date" She really seemed to enjoy herself.

Then, nearly a year later I moved to Annapolis to go to school there and she was still in WI working and going to school. While at school, she would get an email of phone call from me about once a week. Ended up coming to visit me for a day and a half 3 times during the year and i would spend 2 weeks of xmas and 4 weeks of summer home with her. That lasted about 4 years. As the years went by in school the visits got more often, I think by my senior year, we were up to every other month for a weekend sex a thon.
It just sucked cuzyou couldnt have females in your room, so we had to rent a hotel room every single freakin time.
But, when i graduated, we ended up getting married and now have the typical 2 dogs and a newborn and enjoying life.
It was nice having some distance at times while dating cuz that meant i did not have any guilty feelings when i pulled the all nighter with the guys and not with her. Although once we got married it was a big change because I had a total lifestyle change from the 3 different sets of clothes and 1 pair of shoes and beer swilling every night to a mature wardrobe and responsibilities. But it was pretty good while it lasted.
Best piece of advice, email her or call her and spend your time together on the phone. Take an hour one night a week and tell each other about your week. make it like a "date" same time every week you call her.
