got to get something off my chest and i think its getting out of hand. Please tell me guys , It may be just me, or maybe i'm looking at this whole picture wrong! I can take any input ANYONE wants to tell me constructively. About 2 years ago now i have come to this site to search for INFORMATION from some KNOWLEDGABLE HANDICAPPERS. I think in all fairness i have met a few good one, and made friends with a few others that i talk and exchange info on from time to time. But lately it seems theres more and more bullshit, and less and less actual information to gather. I AM the kind of person who wants to find about weather changes, injuries, field conditions, inside information with coaches and players and some noteworthy trends or angles that help me analize, add or subtract what picks i like for the day and week ahead. I could care less that some one can write a game in 8 inch letters that they like,WITH NO INFORMATION attached to it. If i want picks from people who just want to give me thier picks, i can get them everyday at my retail store in the mall, and believe me they like to give them to me. I appreciate all the hard work some guys are putiing into this site , such as master capper, fletch, G-man, gibber, ahjoy, and frankly a few others that i can't remember right now, I LOVE YOU GUYS, and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND HOURS DOING THIS. But the names keep coming on and on with no info and telling us they were such and such last year and these are my picks. I asked a few of them for info on why or how they like a certain side and no one ever gives me pertant info. I am not trying to bust your balls guys, not having a bad day either g-man,loll. I just want to see if i am missing something before i make all of my final decisions. I understand that most of you do not bet the amounts i have bet the last 20 years on these games, and allot of you don't take it as serious as i do and some others. But can we limit bringing every right pick back up to the top so people notice your picks, when you gave no information and probably coattailing someone else anyway? thats all I'm asking. IF YOU REALLY LIKE A GAME, PLEASE GIVE INFO ON WHY YOU LIKE THE GAME. Even if it's i just feel strongly in my heart,or there my favorite team, or i'm going against my best friend, whatever. MAYBE your UNCLE plays for the BEARS and he told you there going to throw the ball allot more this week, now thats info we can digest and decide what to do with it. I get very few pick from people on here, but some people do change my mind or make me lay off the bet totally because thats what were here for. I am here only to help others win money and gather and give as much info i can. This is a handicapping forom, I would like to keep it that way. Sincerely, Dave
Now you can bash me, agree with me or say whatever you want concerning this. MADJACK please take it easy as i am not going to get hurt from bashing, if thier honest with me. And P.S. CLEM, I LOVE YOU MAN! your a riot!

I totally respect your thoughts on this, but have to just remind you much the same way I did in an earlier thread that you cannot EXPECT everyone here to give you their thoughts.

The reality of the situation is that ANYONE can post here and it is their own perogative whether they want to give analysis or not. While you will rarely see me ever post a game without some thoughts to back up my side....to each his own. I don't want to discourage anyone from simply posting their plays sans analysis.

I honestly think it takes some time to evaluate posters for yourself. The longer you are around here you will begin to get a feel for those posters whose opinions you should rate highly and vice versa. Personally, there are some guys around here that I don't need anything more from than to see they like a side because I know from over the years that they are long-term winners and can trust that anything they post has been thoroughly handicapped. I could care less if I get an extra word from some of the stalwarts around here. Sometimes thought processes are over-rated, but consistent winners are not.

My advice is to relax, take it easy and let people be who they want to be. After awhile it becomes obvious who to pay attention to around here, regardless of their posting style. You will also get a feel for people who don't mind you asking for extra thought from. It's just not good practice to go into others' threads and treat them like they owe you something more after simply posting their opinion on a side without anything further.

Good post and I agree with you. Too many posters here just give the team they like and how many units. Who cares. I learn nothing from that. I do not follow anybody here blindly. I come here looking for analysis on games. Whenever I post a pick or my opinion on something, I always support it. I wish others would do so as well.

For example if someone posts a pick and gives their analysis, then people on both sides of the game might find some angle they didn't see before. Maybe add more to your bet or decrease your bet. Maybe someone who wasn't looking to wager on that game now finds a reason too.

More posters should give their picks and back it up. Educate someone. You learn NOTHING from someone who just posts a play. BIG DEAL!

If you truly handicap a game, then posting a write-up should be no big deal. You got all the info already capped, just type it out and post. Shouldn't take long at all. If you are pushed for time, it takes maybe 5min. to do a brief write-up on basic pts. I think posters should do write-ups on their "big games." I never will understand people who post GAME OF THE YEAR's or HUGE PLAYS etc. but never say why they are making it big. Are you suppose to follow their pick because they type GOY?

Another thing I don't understand is the people who post picks late but say they got the line earlier in the week. So how are you helping people out by saying you have TEAM A -2 when the line is now -4 but you say you got the line from earlier in the week. Then why don't you post it earlier in the week?

All in all, posting picks alone is meaningless to me. Even those who have stellar record or reputation. BIG DEAL. Sharing analysis means a whole lot more and helps everyone on BOTH sides of the game.

scott:

youve made some ridiculous posts in the past.

this isnt one of 'em. in fact, it might be the most cogent post youve ever made.

that said, jcovers is right -- in a forum of thousands, its unrealistic to expect anything thorough from the majority. it sucks, but its the truth and reality.

apologize for what, arrow? good points from you and everybody else here too.

JCoverS sums it up the best. There are thousands watching this forum and hundreds posting here so there's something for everybody.

Personally, I like to read the reasoning behind the picks but, believe it or not, there are a lot of people that don't like to read and only want the picks.

With all the different aged groups here, the different personalities, different backgrounds, different educations, different posting styles, different agendas, etc., i think we all get along pretty good, considering.

There's a little something for everybody which makes this the best place on the net for gambling info and i am not biased AT ALL :D

that said.....i'm moving this to general for futher discussion :)

I agree with you arrow, but sometimes it just akes too much time to put up your thinking behind your posts. But I find that when I do type it up to post, I do some more thinking in the process and it actually helps as my only loss this season was not fully researched and not fully analyzed. we'll see, I know I'm not gonna look into this Hawaii/ UAB game. I just feel Hawaii is gonna win. Some friends are trying to talk me outta it, but many of my friends are with me too. ANyways going off the subject (sorry i'm drunk) keep up the good posts as I do use them from time to time

arrow,

I agree with you. This topic was brought up a time or two long ago as well.
Typing "Patriots -8 58 units" doesn't really share a whole lotta information.

But, it is a free forum, and its more of a personal preference than a requirement here. So stick with the cappers that have the info if it suits you.

As someone who tries to post write ups for my plays --- I really could care less if others just post a team name or some info, and while I'd prefer the latter I am aware that is unrealistic. I come here for information, no more no less. I could care less if Username56 likes the Redskins tonight, but I do care if Username56 posts a tidbit about Portis vs the 3-4 defense that I didn't know. That I find useful. Also, while I post of up plays to share any info I find to be pertinent, I also like to see if anyone disagrees with the angle I'm looking at and calls me out on it. GMan's done it to me before, along with Sun Tzu and a few others. I know some of the sensitives find it to be bashing but I find that to be incredibly helpful. Maybe there is some trend or side to the same that I overlooked, and I want to know if my play is not as strong as I may think it is.

But to be honest, looking it from a different angle, the board might be better off when some people do not write up there plays. I think we've all seen some write ups that have had blatantly incorrect information, which is misleading and could sway someone in the wrong direction.

One thing I'd love to see is if you post a GOY you must write up something to backup the play -- would avoid some of these people just posting a GOY and trying to catch lightning in a bottle. That's one thing I've never understood -- what the movtive is to just post a GOY out of the blue and keep hyping the play, I guess some people need their ego stroked a bit, personally I get enough satisfaction from seeing my account balance grow in my offshores.

Last little thing -- while I realize unit sizes are a personal thing, I question some of the people I see that literally are putting 100 units into play on any given night. Either they are some high rollers or play 1 dollar units so they post 40 UNIT PLAY tonight in the subject. I hope for their sake it's the latter -- because I remember one poster like this that kept fairly accurate records of his plays and was down over 350 units at one point. Not trying to be funny here, but if I was down 350 units in one college football season you should check the local news stations for a guy that jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge because I'd be out $70K.

I will now step down from my soapbox and go eat Christmas Breakfast -- enjoy the holidays all.

On the course!
You know, a few years back (when I was more serious about doing this), I posted reasons for my plays. No matter how big or small......there was a reason. I enjoyed doing it, but it was VERY time consuming. I can tell you in less than a minute why I like a play, but it takes me 20 minutes to type it!

Then you have the bashers. You post a play, give waht you feel is sound reasoning, and it loses. Now, some ass bag tells you that "You suck!" or, "Real nice play, faggot!"

Then there are the times you write a play up, and 47 people read it, while the "LOCK OF THE DECADE PLAY!!!!!!!" thread gets 2,300 hits. That tells me that about 90%+ of the readers here are a joke, just looking for a "tout" play, that makes them feel good about the bet they are about to make......they just want some 'confirmation', so to speak.

I've told this story a hundred times here, but I will tell it again:

When I first started posting here, I had the idea that I could convince people to post about the teams in their neck of the woods. The teams THEY followed. I watched the Wisconsin teams fairly close, and it seemed that I won far more of those wagers than I lost. (Jack can attest to some of those plays)

I figured there were lots of other sports geeks out there, who lived and breathed their local teams, and would post info about THEIR teams. Shit, with 5000 members here, that wouldn't seem like I was asking too much, but I guess it was. No one ever took the challenge.

You read sports mags, and they have writers for each city, or team. They are the ones who come up with the things you read about the teams we bet on. I would have thought this place would have went balls out with guys willing to post information about their teams. I was very, very wrong.

I still maintain there are far more guys here who just throw darts, and post a play.......that's one of the reasons you don't see write ups. Some of the guys who really do work their asses off, may not have time to do those write ups.

I always admired Nolan for his writing. When the guy was on a roll, guys lined up in here to fight each other to suck his dick! It was great to see why the guy liked State U over Tech as a 7 point dog. But Nolan proved to be human, and started a reversal of fortunes. He still posted reasoning for his plays, still spent the time to tell a bunch of losers looking for handouts why they should take this game or that..........and he was kicked in the nuts like there was no tomorrow. "You're a great fade, you fukker!" "I'm broke, because of you, asshole!" It proves to be very thankless to post a write up on your selections in these forums.

No......people want a quick fix, and love a winner. Most people who post reasoning for their plays will stop after the first few losing weeks, and the abuse that is sure to follow. That's the sad truth to the matter.
