Two Ellis County public figures reportedly were the targets of violence this week.
Gary Anderson, 66, is in custody following the alleged battery Tuesday of his wife, Barbara, a member of the Ellis County Joint Planning Commission.
Gary Anderson also is alleged to have set fire to a pickup owned by John Schmeidler, Republican candidate for the Ellis County Commission, at about 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Ellis County Attorney Tom Drees said the truck was "torched," but offered no further details about either incident citing a pending investigation.
Drees said he was unaware of any prior convictions against Anderson, who was being held on a 48-hour affidavit. A bond hearing was Thursday morning, where Anderson's bond was set at $50,000.
