***My comments follow.....
I also prefer the B/M card rooms. I live in Jersey about a 2 hr ride to AC and during the week I look forward to playing a little poker on line.
***The concept of online poker is terrific. No idle chatter. No cigarette smoke. You can sit in your underwear (horrors!) and play poker. For those who live in fascist states where gambling is a crime, this is the only option.
I greatly appreciate your posts on living and moving to Vegas has I am planning on moving out there late in 03. Can you post some info on the mid level holdem games in Vegas has compared to the Taj games or Trops
***Man, I could write about this topic forever. Lot's to say. I believe the Atlantic City holdem market is dead. Other than some sporatic games one weekends, a working pro will have a hard time making a decent living (from holdem in Atlantic City). Even if you are not a pro, this is a factor -- what it means is, if a pro cannot make 1-1.5 BB/hour that means the average +EV hourly is less than a big bet. For a recreational player, it essentially means playing BREAK EVEN is the best case scenario (I'm talking long term projection -- anything can happen in s single weekend). If you play stud well, that's a different matter. Many more games to choose from and the earn is higher. If you play very well and have a big bankroll, six figures is possible at the Taj (yearly). I know people that are doing it. But so far as strictly holdem, no -- the market is dead. Foxwoods is slightly better -- but that's because of the great 20-40 game that supposedly goes around the clock at neighboring Mohegan Sun (it's a great game -- lot's of dumb money coming in from NYC and Boston -- plus a general affluence of the populaion of New England makes FW/MS a slighty better poker market than AC.
How do you find them?
Would you prefer to play at the Taj or the Vegas games?
***This is a no-brainer. Las Vegas, by far. However, Los Angeles is actually the best poker market in the world. Los Angeles County and it's big five cardrooms have more high limit games daily than in the entire city of Las Vegas. Middle limit poker in LA is immensely more profitable than Las Vegas. IN Las Vegas, there is only the Bellagio, Mirage, and occasionally the Horseshoe which spreads games over $15-30. There is some $10-20 action at Orleans, Mandalay Bay, the Palms (maybe other places), but the bread and butter middle income games are best on weekends when the California crowd swarms into Las Vegas. Mid-week, these games play a bit tighter, except when a large convention is in town. So, Las Vegas poker is much better than AC (reason -- more table selection, more games, lower rakes). If you play holdem, consider that on an average weekend there are probably no more than 15 holdem games in the city of Atlantic City (including low limits). By contrast, there are probably 200-250 holdem games in Las Vegas. But, the quality of those games is slightly tougher for the lower limits, and easier for the middle limits. I do not play above $30-60 (except PL and NL), so I cannot comment on high limit action other than second-hand.
,
basically im sitting on the fence as to move to AC or Vegas has
far has the poker scene is.
***Las Vegas is the second best poker market in the world. But Los Angeles is light years ahead of Nevada. I would come out here and stay at a Budget Suites for a month and see how you like it and what you earn before making any drastic decisions. ALso, if you play poker professionally in Las Vegas, you better work the second shift (nights). Forget about regular hours. This lifestyle can be difficult for a married person -- and if you have kids you might as well forget it.
I have played with you in AC and FOXWOODS so I value your opinion. Thanks
***I must have booked a win that night. Ah yes, now I rememember.
