MIDGET-CASE JURY HEARS SHORT STORY

April 19, 2005 -- He should have picked on someone his own size.

The midget mother and daughter who were allegedly terrorized by their neighbor stood tall yesterday as they faced the grand jury to testify against him.

Neither 3-foot-8 Debra Shea nor her 3-foot-6 daughter, Concelean Pegues, would comment on their testimony as they left Brooklyn Supreme Court, saying prosecutors asked them not to talk while the case is still pending.

The two were testifying against their longtime neighbor, Joseph Izzo, who was busted last week for spray-painting a yellow line leading up to their house and telling them to "follow the yellow brick road."

Izzo, 40, who is facing hate-crime charges, is also accused of hurling racial slurs at Pegues and cruelly singing, "Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work we go."

Izzo was not in court yesterday, and his lawyer, his brother Richard, declined to comment.

A man who said he was Izzo's friend said that over the past few weeks, Izzo and Shea would get into drunken fights and the two would often call the authorities on each other.

CLOWN BLASTS A BOZO

April 17, 2005 -- Tears of a clown were flowing yesterday as a famed Brooklyn circus performer reacted with disgust to charges that a once-friendly neighbor mocked his midget mom and sister about their diminutive stature.

Koko the Killer Clown ? who for five years was a midget fixture at Coney Island's Sideshows by the Seashore ? came out swinging at Joseph Izzo, the Brooklyn "bigot" now facing charges of harassment, stalking and menacing for terrorizing Koko's family.

"I don't understand it. He's been a family friend for years," said Koko, 30, who used to baby-sit Izzo's children.

"I don't know how he could do this to my mom and my sister. It's like a kick in the ass," said Koko ? currently on hiatus from performing in Martins Ferry, Ohio, after undergoing back surgery.

"When I come to New York, I'd like to have a talk with him," he said.

But despite his homicidal stage name, Koko insisted he would never use his 4-foot-3, 160-pound frame to inflict punishment.

"I would help anybody, not hurt anybody," he said.

The trouble between Koko's mom and sister ? Karen Shea and Concelean Pegues ? and Izzo began roughly three weeks ago, when the 40-year-old former friend spread rat poison on their street, according to Shea.

Shea objected, and her pleas were met with a three-week barrage of insults. Izzo compared Shea and her 3-foot-6, 16-year- old daughter to the Munchkins and yelled racist insults at the girl, the family said.

Izzo also allegedly painted a yellow line outside Shea's home and told the mom and daughter to "follow the yellow brick road."

He is also accused of calling Pegues a "lowlife n----r" and singing, "Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work we go" as the family left the home.

Koko was baffled by Izzo's behavior.

"I would never expect it from him. I expect it from strangers, not from someone I've known my whole life," said Koko, who recalled he most recently saw Izzo last summer and had no problems.

Meanwhile, Shea and Pegues were feted as celebrities in their Brighton Beach neighborhood yesterday after appearing on the front page of The Post.

"It's making me feel good," the 3-foot-8 Shea said of the story, as Pegues autographed copies of The Post.

On the course!
When asked why he acted the way he did, Izzo told this reporter:

"They were getting short with me."

I am sure they are overlooking some minute points in this case,
even the tiniest mixcue could have giant implications for what is working out to be a huge case!!!!
