Glad to see Phil Mickleson is still choking on that silver spoon he was born with. It's still stuck in his throat. It must have taken all his air on 17 yesterday. Couldn't of happened to a nicer guy!:cursin:

I enjoyed seeing him choke.....although i do believe he's not choking anymore, thats just his game...aside from a couple putts he made on the back nine at augusta, he hasnt shown me anything in the majors that proves he should be at the top of the leaderboard on a consistent basis --els, woods, n. price, faldo (a win at a major and one more successful one doesnt put a player on the level that the media is putting this guy at)

hope tigger wins the british by a landslide

I'm not a big fan of Mickelsons by any stretch. His win at the Masters cost me $2,000 on a 5-year bet (this being the last year) that he would not win a major--the bet was $20 at 100-1 with a friend of mine.

But the point of my posting is that he doesn't seem to be a bad guy. I think there is a lot of jealousy when it comes to this guy. He has a SMOKIN' wife, he plays on the PGA, and he is a recreational gambler. I think many people have a negative attitude towards him because they would love to be him.

i agree with you dawg-

this guy stepped in sh*t:
great wife
great way to make a living
family man
confessed gambler

BUT:
when they start talking about a grand slam after only the 2nd round of the US Open!!!! what is that all about?
Johnny Miller was right "It must be hard to concentrate when you are smiling all the time"
I couldnt agree with Miller more. You never see Tiger smiling like that when he is coming down the stretch of a major within striking distance. Guys like Rich Beem, Kevin Stadler, and Fuzzy Zoeller may be able to get away with that, but c'mon Phil--these are the best of the best. Listen to Bones and focus on the line of your putts and less on the rowdy, riff raff gallery of Long Island.

I think that's just Phil's style. He plays golf to have fun. I despised the guy until I heard an interview with him not long ago. I'm still not a huge fan, but it puts him into perspective. He was asked about going for it, hitting driver, etc. when it may be the riskier play and asked if he had learned his lesson, and his response was something to the effect of "if I am laying up, I don't have fun. When golf gets to the point where it is not fun to me anymore, I will quit."

He makes loads of money playing the sport he loves. He can't help what the announcers and the media talk about. That's their problem not his. Hell, two years ago you would have thought that noone besides Tiger was ever going to win another Major.

Did you hear how much the crowd was behind Phil this weekend? I would have had a shit-eating grin on my face, too! That was some pretty cool stuff.

On the course!
Phil's "grin" didn't seem to affect him last April!

I thought he did a hell of a job keeping up with Goosen all day. He has a bad 17th, and it's "choke" talk time. I seem to recall seeing almost the entire field look like shit on plenty of putts yesterday. Nobody called thos guys "chokes".

Phil is playing well right now, but lets face it----
he'll be playing in Tiger's shadow for the next decade or so and then there will be younger competition on the tour for him to deal with.
i was :spotting: when he missed his putts yesterday

so funny watching phil :flush: the tourny title

cant wait til the Open Championship at Royal Troon in July to see Phil's latest meltdown

Ya know, in watching the crowd yesterday, I couldn't help but root for Goosen. I have no real opinion on Michelson one way or the other. I realize he's the all american boy with the hot wife and all so a new york crowd is going to be behind this guy. Kinda like they were behind McEnroe at Flushing during the 80's.

By the way, I hate McEnroe. Throwing tantrums, screaming at ball boys and umpires. Embarrasing himself. Talk about the ugly American. Every time Borg kicked his ass, and he kicked his ass a whole bunch, I loved it.

Sorry to digress, back to golf, I have heard that Goosen is a great guy. Must be tough to have the crowd give you polite golf applause after you sink 11 or 12 one-puts and hear this roar from the group ahead of you for most of the back nine.

By the way, someone said Duval shot a 28 over. If so, I think he would be the number 2 man in my scramble this weekend.

Nobody called thos guys "chokes".

if prizes were given for the biggest choke yesterday, i'd say Els should get the award.

Come on guys, Phil did not choke. These greens were next to impossible. Phil shot what?, the third best round of the day, from that position?

Goosen EARNED that victory. 11 one putts? Come on!!! That is obscene on any course, much less that one, on day fpur, with the title on the line. If he putts anywhere near human, Phil walks by a couple strokes. Then would you be talking choke? I think not.

It was not a melt down, it was a well grinded out victory.

I hope he never wins again

I hope he never wins again

Mickleson is a stuck up snob who thinks he's better than everyone and he doesn't let you forget it.

I know some people are going to jump all over me for saying this --- but I think it's tough to call out Phil for being so egotistical when Tiger's ego seems to be what is keeping him from going back to his old coach and fixing his swing problems.

I sense exactly the opposite. He seems to me like one of the most approachable guys on the tour. Naturally I just base this on what I see on TV. You must know Phil personally or at least met him to make a remark like that, right?

Was not a choke. Was a clutch round to even be in contention that late. Had he not already holed 3 birdies on the back 9? I agree with blackman on Mick and Tiger. Too many are just coveting a Tiger win so they can suck him off more, especially the reporters.

2 things here

2 things here

I never met Mickleson, heard from people who have they say he is the epitome of a snob who thinks he's above you. From what I see on tv and hear on the radio and read, he seems to fit the bill.
If you have the lead with 2 holes to go and you double bogey thats a choke. Not par not a bogey, a double bogey. Goosen didn't birdie anything. Phil choked. Please tell me your definition of a choke if phil didn't.

Phil had a tough par put and he knew he would need to make that putt to have a chance. So he went at that putt hard taking the risk of blowing it by 5 feet. He could have lagged and went for the sure bogey . Instead he went for the par and gave it an aggressive roll, knowing that was going to be what he would have needed to extend the tournament to Monday. You call that a choke, I call that playing to win. If he 2 putts he STILL loses. So he was smart to be aggresive on that first putt. Do you not agree?

Par on many of those holes is just like a birdie, the scoring average was like 79.

How many players are slapping the gallerys hands when walking to the next tee box on the back nine of a major while in contention? Sounds like something a snob would do!

Bif go follow Tiger Woods like everyone else. We all know that is your favorite player.
