I have an estimate of $500+ for diagnosis, purchase part from Nissan and replace a camshaft sensor...on a 2006 Altima 3.5
Seems like an awful high priced sensor.
Am I getting screwed???

Yeah, that's high. The part should be no more than 75.00 for you and it's very easy to do yourself. I'll see if I can get you the step by step with pictures. Shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. And no you don't have to be good with cars.

Bear, did you run the diagnotic codes on it? If not, run up to Autozone and ask them to get the codes for you. It takes 30seconds for them to get the codes.

Thanks layinwood,
As a result of your help I started digging and have gotten 2 estimates
for 200+ less to replace both sensors and now I understand that there may be a recall on those so I'm waiting on that.
I appreciate your offer to help me do it but I can hardly replace a gas cap so I gotta pass on that.
Thanks Again!!!

back in the day there was one member who would have recommended shopping around on craigslist to solve this.

Seems like others were able to help you better.

Nice car Bear--I have basically same engine in Infinity--I had prob with air bag connector on passenger side -- just got recall notice last week--had paragraph at end if owner previously had repair made at his own expense he might be eligible for reimbursement--so save your receipt.

Instead of a shade tree mechanic, I have a trailer park mechanic. He has saved me so
much money. It's crazy the stuff they want to charge you with to screw you. When I hear diagnostics and hook your car to the computer before they even look at it, I call bs. Would a doctor order a MRI of your brain for an earache? Seems there isn't any desire to figure out things anymore at a lot of the garages now.
