I was there once and i wish i knew of a site like this that a person could help him make picks or have more info at least. TWO times this week i have read where people have bought a point an a half at 130-140%. It's just a matter of time, before someone else said it, because were all here for each other guys. That being said, please don't make it harder on yourself and easier on the bookies and buy points and point and a halves. Do you realize if you bought points on average of 1out of 2 plays you would have to hit like eighty % to break even if all your wages were the same price.

BUYING POINTS in basketball is a plain and simple joke, and if your doing it, please find a better game to bet, thats all. You think your giving your self an advantage but your really just making it harder to show a profit at weeks end.

If i were to BUY POINTS in basketball, it honestly would be my last bet of my entire life. Please feel welcome to give your incite on this topic, because its topics like this that really need to be addressed to help make a difference. NO BASHING ON THIS THREAD ALLOWED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

never.....NEVER buy points......especially in basketball

the only time i can see it is in football from 3 to 2.5/3.5 or 7 to 6.5/7.5 (and even then i wouldn't advise)

it's not about 1 bet win or lose, it's about the long haul and buying points over the long haul is a waste of your money (same applies to teasers)

It's like buying insurance in Blackjack. Different people have different opinions...but the right thing to do is to say "no thanks, I take my chances".

basketball teasers are easily the biggest sucker bet out there. points in basketball dont have even close to the same value as theyve got in football.

simply put - every point in football is earned. teams have to drive the ball down the field in multiple plays to have a possession that results in a score.

when you get 3 pts in a teaser in football, youre getting probably 5:00 of value and the opponent has to earn their points to beat you.

in basketball, the different between a 2 point margin of victory and an 8 point margin of victory is very little. its just a matter of how many times the trailing team is willing to foul and how the leader is shooting at the line.

late in hoops games, points are 'earned' by simply inbounding the basketball and waiting to be hacked.

should be pretty obvious which has more value.

I have to disagree.

I think there are situations where you should buy points in basketball.

Its part of the tools we all have to carry. If you don't have the right tool then you can't do the job.

The problem is coming up with the reasons of when to do it. You can't tell me that no one every buys points and wins in basketball.
They might be the ones winning and not talking about it.

I slept for three hours before the Duke game.
I am a night person. I used to work the 4-12 shift on a job and I would stay up all night and sleep in the daytime. I think it messed up my inner clock somehow.

as a blackjack expert, insurance should NEVER be bought

the only acceptable time is for conservative players and only then should you take even money for your blackjack. over the long haul, that's a losing proposition (unless your counting cards and know the deck is loaded with 10's...then it's a no brainer to accept the even money offer).

I agree about never buying points on a flat bet. why pay more juice in the long run you will.. The only time I ever buy points is on a parlay. You only get paid a little less on your par and it makes it easier to get a push or a win.

I also agree 100% with arrow ... NEVER NEVER NEVER AT BASKETBALL ... THATS A NO NO

GJN ... i agree in football that there are situations for buying points ... however ... i believe that the time to do it is buying a half point to get the line TO 3 or 7 ...whether betting the underdog and gaining the half point (from 2 1/2 to 3 etc) or betting the favorite and not wanting to lay 3 1/2 or 7 1/2. In my opionion i only buy to avoid not losing by 1/2 a point ... as noted in an earlier post ... rarely ever buy at football except in parlays(lol and shouldnt bet them anyway)

Good advice ...the books do well enough without the extra advantage of more juice !!!

Here's some advice, blackjack expert. Learn to play poker or go to the craps table.

The analogy with taking insurance on a blackjack is very good. Under no circumstances should you ever take insurance (unless, if as has been mentioned, you are counting cards). This is simply because you decrease you payout by 50% by taking the Even money, but the number of 10's in the deck is not enough to justify the lower payout.

Anyway, remember, if they let you do it, it's probably not in your favor!!!!

buying points in general is not wise, especially in college sports. College sports are the most volatile and the spread seems not to come into effect as much as in the pro's.

However it is all about understanding how much you percieve 1/2 point is worth. In college hoops I would say a half point is worth 3-6 cents, that is for the first few points. If you are buying 3-4 points then the value increases.

Pinnacle has fair prices when buying half points although you will notice the juice does slightly increase (still fair, under the -110 of most books). If you must buy points for a rare occasion Pinnacle is the only book where you are not getting ripped.

All other books I've run into offer 10c per half point which is simply not playable.

I agree with the majority here. If you feel the need to buy points, you should not be betting the game anyway. If it was advantageous, the books wouldn't offer it.

Blackjack experts are a dime a dozen. The REAL blackjack experts don't play the game at all.

I do not buy points in buckets. I will occasionally buy off the 3 or 7 in foots. But......... sure do wish I would have had that extra half point on Saturday. Lost four games by the hook :cursin:

...........................................................

that was exactly my point.

I don't think you can ignore the opportunity of buying points. Not every game no way.

I am very selective about when I buy points.

Its part of what helps us win the cash.
