Had a bunch of Badger fans at our tailgate area and sitting near us at the game last Saturday. Both teams travel well as its only 4.5 hrs between Iowa City and Madison.
Had a great time, but I always have a great time when its Iowa Vs Wisky, either home or away. If you like to drink and drink hard, you will have no problems with the Badger fans....:mj07:

As far as the classiest fans I've come across on road trips, I would say Penn St 1st, ND 2nd and Alabama 3rd (Orange bowl). Biggest bandwagon jumping, arrogant, "know nothing about football" fan award goes to USC fans at the 2004 Rose Bowl. What a fricking joke that crew was.

The majority of PSU fans are classy, but I got threatened at the last game I attended, qoute "I'm a Marine Special Ops and will kill you by ripping your throat out"....all b/c I cheered when Michigan scored.......now I could see if i was cutting up PSU or being obnoxious.....but according to the surrounding fans I was not allowed to root for my team........never once did I say one thing about PSU or any of the fans.....but it was much like prison, once you stand up for yourself it goes away and it didnt hurt that Michigan controlled the game...........

You two know exactly what I'm talking about with those lame USC fans.
USC was throughly kicking Iowa's a#% in that game, yet many of them still felt the need to rub it in our faces. You'd think with them playing in such a lame conference and winning all the time, they'd know how to act, but I guess not.

I was at that game as well. Could it be that SC fans rubbing it in your face had something to do with the obnoxious pre-game and early game behavior of the Hawkeye fans? As soon as I got off the plane in Miami wearing an SC hat and all day leading up to the game and inside the stadium I was subjected to "You West Coast Faggots", "Your team plays like pussies from from LA", "You dont know what real football is", "You're gang banging team is going to get knocked back to the ghetto", Then it really picked up after Iowa returned the opening kickoff for a TD... I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. Their reaction to you, might have something to do with SC fans hearing that crap all day. God knows I was ready to smack someone by kickoff.

But SC "fans" can certainly be just as bad, especially these days. SC's regular - non-bandwagon fan base has been consistantly about 50K-60K over the past 20 years. If SC is selling out a 92K stadium now, subtract the regular SC base and visiting fans and figure out how much band wagon/LA football ie Raider fans that leaves you with - alot. It is great to see the stadium filled every game, but the fans in the stands have gotten much worse and it is definately not the same crowd that was there 10, 20 years ago and knows the pain of losing to Memphis State at home.

But the worst I have encounterd was V Tech fans. "Go back to China, you chink" was about the most politically CORRECT thing that came out of their fans' mouths in reference to my asian american friend, sitting next to me during the game. I've heard alot of sh*t talk over the years, but that was the one game where I was just shocked.

Could be, Flapjack, could be. That just goes to show you that every team has its share of jagg-off fans. I actually got into it a bit with my buddy as he was ready to give it back to the USC clowns around us and I told him to be better than those losers.
I've never heckled a fan from another school, and I never will. I've heard my share of abuse from opposing fans many times, and if yelling at me because I'm supporting my alma mater makes them feel good about themselves....

Cie:

As a Vol fan that attended the LSU game this year, I saw no ill will towards any of your fans. Hell, we even stopped at a tent and partied for a while.:mj07:

Fans that I cannot stand are South Carolina fans. They are the whiniest fans that I have ever seen. Lived in SC for a few years and was there when they were 0-11. To them every game was decided by a blown call in the 1st quarter.:142smilie

Vol fans usually are not rude to anyone but Fulmer:142smilie

Spoken like a true UT fan. Let's face it guys, EVERY team has fans who take it too personally and are a bunch of a-holes. They are everywhere!

Umm, I don't think people really understand this whole thing. I grew up in Michigan and lived in Ann Arbor for awhile. We disliked OSU and hoped Michigan kicked their ass, but that's the end of it. I now live in Columbus, and I am starting to get it. These window-lickers have nothing else. OSU football is it. It is pretty much the only thing they have.

In other parts of the country, people get into other things (pro football, ML baseball, NBA, etc) but in Columbu, you have Buckeye football. It is the only thing people have to latch on to. If you try to make an argument for the Columbus Blue Jackets, take it somewhere else. Buckeye football is the only thing that matters. The AM sports station talks about OSU/UofM every day. In Ann Arbor, WTKA brings up the game on occasion, but it spends a lot of time talking about MSU and Notre Dame. The focus isn't there. Down here, this game is everything. I am surprised John Cooper didn't kill himself while he was nearing the end of his coaching reign at OSU because I can only imagine what kind of treatment he received.

All that said, I was surprised that Nebraska fans are classy. Figured they would have the same mindset as Columbus folk. I've heard that LSU fans are nuts fom guys I used to play college baseball with. Not surprised they were mentioned after some of the stories I heard.

Yup, cant argue with that. And that is why I am scared to death this week.......the overkill of this rivalry on the Ohio State side is why I think we have choked in many big games against Mich. But it isnt like Ohio State is the only program like this. There are quite a few big time programs in places where not much else sports-wise is going on. I dont think that any program in the country travels better than Ohio State, which is kind of cool to be part of a following like that, there was nothing better than to see how we packed the stadium in 2002 for the NC, almost like a home game......or how we pack little stadiums like at Northwestern and get the O-H-I-O chant going in THEIR stadium. It is no wonder why the rest of the country hates us......LOL

What are those programs and what is the weather like there? I know Colin Cowherd refers to this phenomenon quite a bit. When people are trapped inside their houses for 3-4 months a year, and don't have enough outside distractions, they tend to latch on to the one thing they have and live and die for it.

Cancel the USC and UCLA football programs, and people in Southern Cal will be upset. Cancel the OSU football program and the city of Columbus will burn down.

I don't think the whole country hates you. It's just that as a group, Buckeye fans are really annoying. Kind of like the idiot at the poker table that talks about every hand and questions every decision after the fact. Yeah, we know you love your team, but you don't have to explain every hand to prove it.

Alright, now I was OK to agree with you that Ohio State fans only have the Buckeyes to latch onto SPORTSWISE. But for you to say that the town would burn down if the Buckeyes would be gone is ridiculous.....there is plenty going on in Columbus......what used to be a "cowtown" has actually been built up so much that there is barely any available space anymore. Between the Easton area, Polaris area, and Dublin/Hilliard area, I think there is plenty going on.

I thought you lived here? If you hate it and the Buckeyes so much, get out. And if your excuse is work......find new work. My thoughts.....I hate people that bad talk the place they live.

And while I agree that Buckeye fans can be annoying as a whole....I love being one, and I will especially love being one this weekend.

And on that note.....here is a video for you to enjoy.

Tease: When did I say that I hated living here in Columbus? I really like it here. People would be really surprised how cool this town really is.

I said the town would burn down because I think the people would lose their minds if they lost the Buckeyes. Forgive me for using a little exaggeration.

Saturday is going to be a great day to be in Columbus. Good luck this weekend, but I hope Michigan rolls OSU. :)
