I think he should be reinstated. I feel he is serving his debt to society. Once completed, why should he be kept from attempting to continue his career?

This is not to say that a team would take the gamble... but I would give him a shot of trying out if I was an owner.

The backlash will be big but short-term.

i disagree about the being an owner part. No way i would take a shot on him. You will lose ticket sales and u can bet there will be tons of protest all around ur stadium. It isn't worth the hassle. Im not sure the hatred towards him will ever go away.

Do you really think the public will care about this 2 seasons after he is reinstated?

You and I see the public completely differently if you do.

NOTE: IF he is reinstated and IF he is picked up by a team.

NO HOW NO WAY WILL WE GO AWAY

Todd McNair(RB for KC & Houston Oilers early 90s 3rd down specialist type guy) wish I still had the local paper clippings on it, now coaching RBs at USC...alot less fan fare then Vick, he had these same type of situations and they showed up at every game he played until he was released.

I have a bet with my boss that he will make a team by 2010 opening weekend, I hope he gets a chance...He is certainly high risk high reward guy, I personally think he has paid his dues in jail...I also think if the NFL did not let criminals play they would not have a league, every week a NFL player is being arrested for drugs, beating their girlfriends, bar fights, so Vick is no different, imo...

What message is the NFL sending if it allows Vick back in? Its telling kids its ok to be a part of killing dogs because if you do your celebrity version of jail time we'll forgive you.

Anybody that forgives Vick and thinks he should be in the NFL , boy o boy.

the nfl is full of criminals...I think he has paid his dues...Mike Tyson got another chance and he was convicted of rape and Vick killed a few dogs and ran a dog fighting ring...

Myself YES, I feel THE SAME! IF that said person raped or murdered anyone and served the penalty issued and paid the fines levied..why should he be looked at as a convict or felon? .

good lord.....why do you think they have a sex offender registry?...if you had kids would you want a serial sex offender moving in next door without your knowledge?...

i`m sure you are aware that the majority of crime is perpetrated by a handful of recitivists?....

good lord again...:SIB

the NFL isnt sending any message to children, --sorry, its not. The commissioner, i think, has actually overstepped his bounds in disciplining off field antics, though the league has since seen less "chris henry/pacman jones" type outbursts.

obvioulsy vick wont even come close to endorsements again (one would think--but you never know). his athletic skills are undeniable, though possessing such does not give one a free pass. athletes and most anyone in the public eye, usually seems to get a great deal when it comes to sentences levied down on them vs what an avg joe would get in having done the same thing.

vick should be reinstated. will people cringe in seeing him lining up behind center? absolutely... not anymore than seeing pacman jones pulling down a punt. the persona of mike vick is one that is near impossible to fix or view in a good light, though he has paid, what society says, is the punishment for his crimes.

this is more a question of your being upset with the lines drawn by the NFL than the courts--i understand that. some the severity of what he did in killing animals, in your mind, should not allow him chance to gain living in the NFL because it should be held at such a higher example...than what?? what job, outside of a butcher or slaughterhouse worker shouldnt then still take the high ground that would be beyond reporach to employ such a person--capable of heinous crimes??? clearly there are few and far bewtween jobs that share such a visable place in the media and subsequently, the viewing public... i'm getting way carried away--i think he shoudl be able to play, thats me

This is a good thread. The personal hatred I feel for Vick made me say No way should he be allowed back. But he did serve his time. So I guess if he can make a deal with a team he should be allowed in. It is going to be tough for him anyway.

Let's pose a different question: Would PETA accept Michael Vick as a spokesman?

I say that they definitely would with a "personal confession" type of campaign against dog fighting.

Then when they stood to gain from this, they would back off the protests. Because, in the end, they're not about the animals but their own self-interests as well.

A butcher isnt on tv or going to be seen by millions of kids. And most jobs arent.

Im not saying he shouldnt have the right to make a living but when it could most likely have a very negative outcome on children I have to draw the line and I hope the NFL does also.

He can be a butcher or a landscaper.

I would not allow my son to see this man playing in the NFL. It would be like telling him its alright to be a part of killing dogs as long as you serve your time.

Maybe my problem is is that I care about children too much maybe. I should lighten up and stop casring so much

Raiders:shrug: they like guys with speed would be my first choice close

other possible teams interested:

Rams, they need a new qb
Miami, Parcells could handle him, he and Ricky Williams could smoke ganga in the offseason
Jacksonville needs a qb, too
Cleveland, the dog pound:SIB

he will have many choices, with his athletic ability he should get a chance

Not buying that at all. Not considering all the other crap that they see on tv on a regular basis. If anything, this teaches kids that it's OK to make mistakes, so long as you are willing to accept your punishment and change for the better and not repeat your mistakes. It teaches them forgiveness and that second chances can be a good thing. Take the Cowboys for example and all the players they extend second chances to....errr, never mind:tongue

they have sex offender registry so the guy can be tagged a rapist.....lets say a KNOWN sex offender does come into the neighborhood, does him having a sign out front of his house keep small little girls away from the big bad wolf? NOPE! If someone wants to commit a crime they commit it, no label or tag is gonna make that person say nahhhhh I rape or kill them some other time I dont want to be tagged a rapist....to me the tag if for "others" to be "warned" and know how to treat the POS as some put it. treat them like animals its ok they made a horrible decision in their life......and the ones who make the decisions and dont get arrested or charged for it just continue to do it. Have you ever came in contact with a felon, rapist, murderer, or any other unlawful citizen that has changed their life around? I have and MOST of the time they have caught a BREAK and took advantage of it....not many do I know came back to the real world and aspired from the janitorial position on the night shift(so noone would have to work around the monster) to eventually run the company. But theres plenty of PEOPLE who have broke laws running companies and so forth that havent or werent charged and still deemed successful

is it good to have a CEO that ruined 1 business running another one? Happens all the time. It isnt good for any person who has criminal thought and patterns to be insociety, BUT once the debt is paid I believe that real habilitation begins when THEY look at the world in a different light, a crackhead is a crackhead until they believe they dont want/need the crack any longer...but if that crackhead goes into a new upscale neighborhood and all his new neighbors keep calling him a crackhead and dont expect anything more from him then to be a crackhead....he will probably end up smoking the glass dick again...if that same person went to the new neighborhood and was accepted as a new neighbor, Im wiling to bet he could find enough to keep him positive and busy not to endulge in crack again...different mindset between a rapist and a crackhead(i dunno) they both feel as though they need the drug/sex in order to be complete..i just dont think the way we do things now really truely works...I;ll give you a personal example---I know of and am myself one who made a mistake when I was younger, through that mistake as a yongster Ive been overlooked (and told so) on 2 different jobs where as I felt as though those jobs were ones I wanted to be at longterm.....because of a past and prior. Luckily Ive been fortunate to build something from nothing for myself and family but I am only hopefully I can have continued luck(i like to call it)...so maybe thats why I am so AGAINST labels and profiles of a person.....it doesnt allow you to know the person, but rather cast them in a light of to what to expect. And my mistake has been over 10 yrs ago....still affecting me:violin:

i for one, would never go about saying "yeah, go ahead and kill this or that--and serve your time, and we'll be OK" though honestly, you could make an argument for me sounding like that if you took what i wrote the wrong way--and you didnt, i think all in all you received it the right way.

no apologies, however heartfelt or sincere they might be, nor time spent incaerated will ever UNDO what he did, or TRULY make up for the loss(dog's lives and damage done) as a whole. there really isnt a number anyone should be able to put on the value of a life, be it a person -or animal- though there is.

really though, i'm never going to point to an athlete and say to kid, yeah, you should look up to him or her. never would i suggest someone as role model from the world of sports or entertainment. i will, acknowledge the skill they display in their sport as something to aspire to. i too, will draw my own conclusions on their demenor--as to what they've allowed me to see--found out in the media.

i've never had a sports figure as a role model in my
upbringing. wanting to have the tools they exhibit in their sport yes, but never fashioning myself after how i would imagine they might be outside of the sporting arena. i mean, while michael jordan was a phenomenal basketball player - who am i to say he should be someone to admire and look up to--in his personal life he could be a pedofile for all we know (i'm not saying he is) but simply saying theres only what we see, which is hardly represntative to the whole of the person.

how many dads(and sponsers) were backing kobe bryant until his lil flap came out in the news--only to hafta explain what that was all about to said kid...

i admire their skill in their sport, past that...theres little of a role model to fashion oneself after. i mean, how many of us are going to be burdened with knowing how to handle oneself with that much money in their life. and to head this argument off at the head, NO making money being a billionaire etc does not excuse anyone from being accountable.

while this is a good thread--i'd much rather be spending my time in one like the proud proud proud fella who was proud of his son hitting a homerun--than discussing what lies ahead for vick, thiough admittedly, it is fun arguing.

tball - do the current players in the NFL who are known rapists, spouse abusers, serial womanizer with children strung across the country keep you from taking your child there to support the sport?

If not, why not?

Why would dog abuse (as serious as it was) be worse than the above mentioned acts?

I really don't get it how people act like the NFL is full of a bunch of saints. Don't get me wrong. I love the NFL, but I'm not Pollyanna about it's current state.
