A butcher isnt on tv or going to be seen by millions of kids. And most jobs arent.
Im not saying he shouldnt have the right to make a living but when it could most likely have a very negative outcome on children I have to draw the line and I hope the NFL does also.
He can be a butcher or a landscaper.
I would not allow my son to see this man playing in the NFL. It would be like telling him its alright to be a part of killing dogs as long as you serve your time.
Maybe my problem is is that I care about children too much maybe. I should lighten up and stop casring so much
i for one, would never go about saying "yeah, go ahead and kill this or that--and serve your time, and we'll be OK" though honestly, you could make an argument for me sounding like that if you took what i wrote the wrong way--and you didnt, i think all in all you received it the right way.
no apologies, however heartfelt or sincere they might be, nor time spent incaerated will ever UNDO what he did, or TRULY make up for the loss(dog's lives and damage done) as a whole. there really isnt a number anyone should be able to put on the value of a life, be it a person -or animal- though there is.
really though, i'm never going to point to an athlete and say to kid, yeah, you should look up to him or her. never would i suggest someone as role model from the world of sports or entertainment. i will, acknowledge the skill they display in their sport as something to aspire to. i too, will draw my own conclusions on their demenor--as to what they've
allowed me to see--found out in the media.
i've never had a sports figure as a role model in my
upbringing. wanting to have the tools they exhibit in their sport yes, but never fashioning myself after how i would imagine they might be outside of the sporting arena. i mean, while michael jordan was a phenomenal basketball player - who am i to say he should be someone to admire and look up to--in his personal life he could be a pedofile for all we know (i'm not saying he is) but simply saying theres only what we see, which is hardly represntative to the whole of the person.
how many dads(and sponsers) were backing kobe bryant until his lil flap came out in the news--only to hafta explain what that was all about to said kid...
i admire their skill in their sport, past that...theres little of a role model to fashion oneself after. i mean, how many of us are going to be burdened with knowing how to handle oneself with that much money in their life. and to head this argument off at the head, NO making money being a billionaire etc does not excuse anyone from being accountable.
while this is a good thread--i'd much rather be spending my time in one like the proud proud proud fella who was proud of his son hitting a homerun--than discussing what lies ahead for vick, thiough admittedly, it is fun arguing.
