Guidelines in play here are 9-1-3 and 9-1-4 of the NCAA football rulebook.

Article 3 states that, ?No player shall target and initiate contact against an opponent with the crown (top) of the helmet.? Article 4 states that, ?No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, elbow or shoulder.?

My argument is the precedenct Slive set with the suspesnions earlier in the year of hits on "defenseless players". That's the precedent he set. My only point here has been that Murray wasn't defenseless. There's no definition of a defenseless player so I guess it just has to be based on opinion and you know what they say about opinions.

I don't think suspending Dial would have any affect on the outcome of the NC game whatsoever, win or lose. I just don't think it's the right thing to do. Flag, definitely...suspension, no

This is so cut and dry you would have to be a delusional Alabama fan to think differently. It was definitely a dirty and illegal hit. I think the rules now are bs for the defense (it's like every hit is illegal), but this play would have been dirty in 1980 too. It transcends the rules and time. That will always be and always has been a dirty play and should be appropriately punished per prior example of a similar dirty hit.
