Almost to $1K!!!

Great job guys. This is what this board is all about. That, and I think there's something to do with sports gambling, too. ;)

I deposited all of the checks that I have received yesterday. There is one more check coming, but I am going tomorrow to Costco. Last year, I spent over $300 on shipping, so the last check will go towards that anyway.

I will post pictures once I get back.

I am going to use last year's list that Rodney posted as a guideline. Looks like more Axe body spray for everyone!!!

Father is coming in town today, so I am putting the Costco trip off until Monday's lunchtime.

I would've gone this morning, but I didn't spring for the 10am openings. yes, I am a cheap bastard.

Will keep everyone updated.

Just got back from Sam's Club. I will be posting pictures later. Once they are posted, I will begin boxing all of this stuff up to be ready for the post office.

Once I get the initial estimate for postage, I will know how much we have left over. Estimating from last year, we are going to be pretty close right now. After that, I will just add some stuff from the dollar store to fill in the gaps.

A story as to why we do this.

As all of you know who shop at Sam's or Costco know, they have someone "checking" your receipt as you leave. The gentleman checking today asked what all of the stuff was for, so I told him that a group of friends was putting together a care package for the troops in Iraq because another friend was over there.

He told me "they sent me over to Korea when I was a kid, and I knew every day I was going to die." We talked for a little while longer, and he said that his unit was 182 young men when they left. He was one of five from his company that came back alive with no life-changing injuries.

I was honored with the privelage of shaking his hand and told him, "I'm glad you're here." He teared up pretty good as I was leaving which has me thinking quite a lot about all of this.

We are doing a great thing and it says a lot about every one of us. Our men and women are sacrificing greater amounts for me and my family than I can imagine. Whether or not we are over there for the right reasons, we are fortunate to be in a country where we have so many brave people who VOLUNTEER to serve their country in this manner.

I'm proud to be a part of this group here at MadJacks that takes a little time and effort to try to say thanks.
