Sunday?s 6-pack

? Warriors 113, Spurs 92? Gregg Popovich has won five NBA titles, so he gets away with being a jerk during in-game interviews and in press conferences. No bueno.

? Why do NBA warmup jackets have hoods on them?

? Denver Broncos will have eight new assistant coaches this season.

? Tampa Bay P Jake Faria?s family had season tickets to the Angels growing up; both his mom and his stepfather are powerlifters.

? Former NBA star Dan Majerle turned down a chance to interview for the Phoenix Suns? head coaching job, to stay on as coach at Grand Canyon University.

? Washington center Marcin Gortat got a foul on the opening tap of the Wizard-Raptor game. Don?t see that happen too much.

Quote of the Day
?I?m a perfectionist, so I thought I could have done better. I felt that I helped myself out, and my agent [Leigh Steinberg] felt the same way. My thing is, I can throw with all these guys; I just don?t have the experience they do because I sat behind Pat the last two years. But as far as getting out there and throwing, I think I?m right up there with these guys.?
Texas Tech QB Nic Shimonek, who threw for 3,963 yards, 33 TD?s, 10 INT?s as Tech?s starting QB in 2017, and now hopes to play in the NFL

Sunday?s quiz
Steve Kerr was once the GM of which NBA team?

Saturday?s quiz
Kevin Durant began his NBA career with the Seattle SuperSonics, in 2007-08. Sonics then moved to Oklahoma City the next year.

Friday?s quiz
Phil Mickelson?s brother/caddy used to be the golf coach at Arizona State.

Sunday?s List of 13: Wrapping up a cloudy Saturday

13) Philadelphia Phillies gave rookie 2B Scott Kingery a 6-year, $23M contract with options beyond that, before he ever played a major league game.

OF Nick Williams played 83 games as a rookie for the Phillies LY; he hit .283 with 55 RBI, pretty solid production. Not only is he still making the $553,000 league minimum, they don?t start him anymore, now that Rhys Hoskins has moved to the outfield. He started in Tampa Bay this weekend because its an AL park so they have the DH.

Williams must be really freakin? happy.

12) QB Josh Allen will be the first Wyoming Cowboy taken in the first round of the NFL Draft since 1976, when they had two players taken in first round.

11) Weird stat: Rangers? DH/OF Joey Gallo has 53 career home runs, 50 career singles.

10) Foot of snow in Minnesota this weekend; why didn?t these geniuses put a retractable dome on their new baseball stadium? Twins might not play for close to a week; I have Jose Abreu on my fantasy team? he?s getting the second half of this week off. No bueno.

Seriously; Sunday?s doubleheader was postponed at 4:00 Saturday. Awesome.

9) UCLA fired assistant basketball coach/Air Force veteran David Grace, a decorated military veteran who served in the Air Force during Operation Desert Storm.

He?s been given credit for bringing in some of UCLA?s top recruits over the last several years, including T.J. Leaf, Ike Anigbogu and Jaylen Hands.

8) Weirdness; A?s are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their first season in Oakland this year, while the Royals are celebrating their 50th season in Kansas City this year.

A?s started playing in Oakland in ?68, after leaving Kansas City. Royals started play when divisional play started, in ?69.

7) Miami Marlins drew 6,150 fans for a home game with the Mets Wednesday; their AA team in Jacksonville drew 6,960 fans that same night for their Southern League home opener vs Mobile.

6) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will be on Dancing With the Stars this fall; he could?ve made a freakin? fortune in endorsements during/after his career, but he is very quiet and never showed much personality so once he stopped playing ball, he kind of disappeared.

Kareem will by 71 on Monday; good to see him enjoying himself now. I?ve said this before here and I firmly believe it? he was the most dominant basketball player ever.

5) Masters champ Patrick Reed sat behind the plate as the Astros game Saturday wearing his green jacket; he was also at a Rockets? game and went to the drive-thru window at Chick-fil-A wearing the jacket. At what point does he hang the jacket in his closet and go back to playing golf?

4) Cubs 14, Braves 10? Atlanta led this game 10-2 in 6th inning on a hideous, cold, rainy day in Wrigley Field. Braves? bullpen got 8 outs, allowed 11 runs.

This game shouldn?t have been played; the weather was awful.

3) Golfer Kelly Kraft missed the cut by a stroke at Hilton Head this week, in large part because his tee shot on the par-3 14th hole hit a bird and fell into the water? he double-bogeyed the hole. Because the bird is not a man-made object, Kraft had to play the ball where it lied, or take a penalty; had he hit an airplane, apparently he would get relief. Go figure.

2) Former Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops and legendary Arizona hoop coach Lute Olson recently had statues of themselves put up on the schools? campuses.

1? In 1997, Barry Levinson wrote a movie called Wag the Dog, where just before a Presidential election, a spin-doctor and a Hollywood producer got together to fabricate a war in order to cover up the President?s sex scandal. Sound familiar?

HBO and Levinson are in the process now of creating a Wag the Dog comedy series, but the idea just isn?t funny anymore.

LEADING OFF: Wintry weather, Verlander vs Colon, Reds skid
April 14, 2018

A look at what's happening all around the majors Sunday:

OHTANI UP

Shohei Ohtani makes his third major league start on the mound for the Los Angeles Angels, who have won seven in a row. The two-way sensation from Japan pitches at Kansas City, where the forecast calls for temperatures in the 30s and winds of 20 mph. ''Playing a game like that, I don't know if I've ever experienced that cold,'' Ohtani said through a translator.

Ohtani has twice faced the A's, going 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in 13 innings, allowing just four hits and striking out 18. He's not expected to bat - he's hitting .367 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in 30 at-bats, mostly starting as a designated hitter.

WICKED WEATHER

Snow is possible at Fenway Park, rain is likely at Citi Field and cold conditions are in the forecast at Wrigley Field, raising the possibility of more postponements in a season already beset by wintry weather. The White Sox-Twins game at Target Field has already been called off - for the third straight day - with snow piling up. Rain is predicted in Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Washington, putting those matchups in jeopardy.

The Cubs beat the Braves 14-10 on Saturday at Wrigley, where it was 38 degrees with a 24 mph wind and steady mist at the start. The conditions worsened as the game went on, but this was Atlanta's only visit to Chicago this season, so they finished.

''Baseball is not necessarily designed for this,'' Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. ''I don't know to what extent in the future, maybe, they can talk about when even if it's not actually physically snowing or raining, there might be elements that are not conducive to playing a legitimate game of baseball.''

V FOR VICTORY

Astros ace Justin Verlander has won nine straight regular-season games. He's 2-0 with a 1.45 ERA in three starts this year going into Sunday night, when Houston hosts Texas. Bartolo Colon will make his second start for the Rangers - the 44-year-old has a 1.64 ERA in three games so far.

NOAH'S ARM

With rain in the chilly forecast, Noah Syndergaard (2-0) tries to keep the Mets rolling against visiting Milwaukee. Syndergaard is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in two career outings vs. the Brewers, both at home. He has struck out 16 and walked one in 13 innings. Rookie catcher Tomas Nido will get his third big league start and first this season, manager Mickey Callaway said. Jhoulys Chacin (0-1) is scheduled to make his fourth start for Milwaukee. Opponents are hitting .333 with three homers against Chacin, who signed a $15.5 million, two-year contract after going 13-10 with a 3.89 ERA for San Diego last season. He is 2-5 with a 6.10 ERA vs. the Mets, including an 8.38 mark in five outings at Citi Field.

CHECK HIM

Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts bruised his left foot in a collision with Baltimore catcher Chance Sisco's left shin guard when he scored Saturday, and came out a few innings later. Boston manager Alex Cora said Betts will likely have the day off. ... Washington third baseman Anthony Rendon was out of the starting lineup Saturday for the first time this season. He left Friday night's game after fouling a ball off his left big toe. X-rays were negative, and Nationals manager Dave Martinez says Rendon is day to day.

REDS FEELING BLUE

The Reds are off to their worst start since 1931 with a 2-12 record that's puts them at the bottom of the major league standings. Cincinnati has lost at least 94 games in each of its last three seasons. The Reds try to end a seven-game skid when Homer Bailey pitches against Carlos Martinez and the visiting Cardinals.

JACKIE ROBINSON SALUTE

All players, managers, coaches and umpires will wear No. 42 as part of Jackie Robinson Day, when Major League Baseball pays tribute to the anniversary of the day the Brooklyn Dodgers great broke the color barrier on April 15, 1947. His wife, Rachel, and daughter, Sharon, are scheduled to be at the ballpark when the New York Mets host Milwaukee. At Dodger Stadium, fans will get Robinson jerseys at the game between Los Angeles and Arizona.

Rox' Arenado begins 5-game suspension
April 14, 2018

WASHINGTON (AP) Colorado third baseman Nolan Arenado has dropped his appeal and immediately will begin serving his five-game suspension from Major League Baseball in Washington for his part in Wednesday's brawl with San Diego.

A team spokesman confirmed Saturday that Arenado would begin the suspension.

Arenado charged the mound after Padres pitcher Luis Perdomo threw a pitch behind his back during the Rockies' 6-4 victory.

Ryan McMahon replaced Arenado in the lineup at third base Saturday.

Rockies outfielder Gerrado Parra is still appealing his four-game suspension and is in the lineup on Saturday, batting second.

Twins postpone 2nd straight home game
April 14, 2018

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The weather wound up taking three of four at Target Field this weekend.

Several hours after Saturday's game between the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota was postponed, the Twins said Sunday's game wouldn't take place, either.

This marks the first time in the nine-year history of Target Field that three straight games have been called off. Friday night's game was postponed because of rain.

Minnesota won 4-0 Thursday, a game where Joe Mauer recorded his 2,000th career hit.

Four of the first 10 Twins' home games, including last Sunday with Seattle, were postponed due to wintry weather.

''It's been a different start,'' Minnesota manager Paul Molitor said Friday. ''You're always going to have weather, but this time it's been extreme. ... I think we're all looking forward to the day we can start putting it together day after day after day instead of the stagnation.''

The Twin Cities area is under a blizzard warning until 7 a.m. Sunday with forecasters calling for more than a foot of snow in some locations. In addition, temperatures in the 20s and high winds remain in the forecast.

Both the Twins and White Sox are headed for warmer destinations, assuming the airport opens.

''To say that I'm not concerned about that, I would be lying,'' White Sox manager Rick Renteria told Chicago reporters Saturday night.

Chicago, which took some swings in the cages and threw side sessions Saturday, is scheduled to begin a three-game series Monday night in Oakland.

Minnesota is headed to San Juan, Puerto Rico for a two-game series with Cleveland beginning Tuesday.

No makeup dates have been announced for any of this weekend's lost games.

The White Sox are scheduled to play at Minnesota on June 5-7, and each team has June 4 open.

The AL Central opponents end their seasons at Target Field on Sept. 28-30. The clubs have a few other mutual days between now and then.

Bad weather has been an issue throughout the majors this season. As of Saturday, 15 games had been postponed, including four each in Minnesota and Detroit.

Postponements have made a mess out of pitching staffs as starters have extra time between starts and some relievers have gone more than a week without action.

The White Sox plan to start Reynaldo Lopez on Monday, followed by Miguel Gonzalez and Carson Fulmer. Lopez, who has allowed one earned run in 13 innings this season and last pitched April 8, was scheduled Friday and Gonzalez Saturday.

Lance Lynn, who last pitched Monday, had been scheduled to start Saturday for Minnesota with Jake Odorizzi going Sunday. The plan is for Odorizzi to start Tuesday with Jose Berrios going Wednesday on regular rest in his home country. Berrios allowed three hits and struck out 11 in seven innings Thursday as he continues to develop into the Twins ace.

Yet, the adverse weather might have helped the Twins pitching depth. Minnesota does not need a fifth starter until April 24, which gives Phil Hughes more time at the team's Florida facility as he recovers from a strained left oblique muscle.

Rain postpones Blue Jays-Indians again; May 3 doubleheader
April 15, 2018

CLEVELAND (AP) Rain has postponed a game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians for a second straight day.

Sunday's game was called about four hours before the scheduled 1:10 p.m. first pitch. Saturday's game also was postponed. The teams will play a traditional doubleheader starting at 1:10 p.m. on May 3, previously an off day for both clubs.

Toronto, in its only previously scheduled trip to Cleveland this season, broke the Indians' five-game winning streak with an 8-4 victory Friday night.

Corey Kluber (1-1) had been scheduled to start for Cleveland on Sunday. The reigning AL Cy Young winner is expected to pitch Tuesday night when the Indians open a two-game series in San Juan, Puerto Rico, against the Minnesota Twins.

Jaime Garcia (1-0) had been scheduled to start for Toronto on Sunday. The Blue Jays open a three-game series Monday night against Kansas City at Rogers Centre.

Red Sox move to MLB-best 13-2; Phils' win streak at 6
April 15, 2018

BOSTON (AP) Andrew Benintendi got three hits and the Boston Red Sox extended the best start in their 118-year history, beating the Baltimore Orioles 3-1 Sunday at frigid Fenway Park.

Mitch Moreland also had three hits for the Red Sox, who completed a three-game sweep of the shortened series and improved to a major league-best 13-2 under new manager Alex Cora.

The series was supposed to last four games, but the traditional Patriots' Day game scheduled for Monday morning at 11:05 a.m. was postponed late Sunday afternoon because of a forecast that calls for heavy rain throughout the day.

The game will be made up May 17. It is the first time the Patriots' Day game in Boston has been postponed since 1984.

Manny Machado had an RBI double for Baltimore, which has lost five of six.

Boston ace Chris Sale gave up one run and two hits in five innings, striking eight and walking two.

Heath Hembree (2-0) worked two innings of scoreless relief. Craig Kimbrel got three outs for his fifth save.

Dylan Bundy (0-2) gave up three runs - one earned - and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings with six strikeouts, two walks and two wild pitches.

PHILLIES 10, RAYS 4

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Aaron Altherr hit a three-run homer, Scott Kingery had a three-run double and Philadelphia won its sixth in a row.

Kingery's two-out drive off the center field wall capped a four-run burst in the third inning that put Philadelphia ahead 4-2. The rookie has 12 RBIs over his past eight games.

Philadelphia took a commanding 10-3 advantage during a five-run eighth when Maikel Franco hit a two-run single and Altherr homered off Andrew Kittredge.

Reliever Yacksel Rios (2-0) went 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Denard Span homered and had two RBIs for the Rays, who have lost six straight at home.

Ryan Yarbrough (0-1), making the start on the Rays' fifth bullpen game this season, gave up five runs, three hits, two walks and hit a batter in 4 2/3 innings.

METS 3, BREWERS 2

NEW YORK (AP) - Wilmer Flores hit a game-winning home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and New York beat Milwaukee to improve the best start in team history to 12-2.

Noah Syndergaard struck out eight batters in a row, two shy of Tom Seaver's major league record, and Brandon Nimmo finished a double shy of the cycle. Nimmo connected for a tying home run against Taylor Williams leading off the sixth on a cold, blustery afternoon at Citi Field.

Flores broke a 2-all tie with a drive over the left-center wall against Matt Albers (2-1) for his second home run this year. New York has opened a season with five straight series wins for the first time.

Jeurys Familia (1-0) worked around a walk in a hitless ninth.

ROCKIES 6, NATIONALS 5

WASHINGTON (AP) - Ian Desmond hit a tiebreaking, two-out homer in the ninth inning against his former team, Charlie Blackmon drove in three runs and Colorado rallied to beat Washington.

After Sean Doolittle (0-1) struck out Carlos Gonzalez and Gerardo Parra to open the ninth, Desmond sent a belt-high, 3-2 fastball over the 402-foot sign in straightaway center as Colorado took three out of four in its only visit to Washington.

Adam Ottavino (3-0) got the win despite allowing a run in the eighth.

Wade Davis worked the ninth for his seventh save in eight opportunities.

PIRATES 7, MARLINS 3

MIAMI (AP) - Starling Marte went 5 for 5 with a ninth-inning homer to help Pittsburgh beat Miami.

Marte's five hits were a career high, and his average rose from .241 to .305. He scored four times and hit his third homer off Junichi Tazawa.

The surprising Pirates (11-4) improved to 7-0 in day games, completed a 4-2 trip and head home atop the NL Central.

Ivan Nova (2-1) recovered from a wobbly start to pitch 6 2/3 innings. He allowed three runs and struck out nine, his highest total since 2016.

Jose Urena (0-3) allowed eight hits and four runs in five innings. After four starts, the Marlins' ace has an ERA of 5.57.

CARDINALS 3, REDS 2

CINCINNATI (AP) - Carlos Martinez struck out a season-high 11 batters in seven shutout innings and Harrison Bader's two-run home run helped St. Louis complete its first four-game sweep in Cincinnati since 1949.

Martinez (2-1) allowed two hits and four walks while helping send the Reds to their eighth consecutive loss, one short of matching their longest losing streak of last season.

The Reds scored 10 runs in the series while being swept in four games at home by St. Louis for the first time since July 8-10, 1949.

The Reds haven't enjoyed a lead in 32 innings, going back to the fourth inning on Thursday. They are 2-13 for the first time since the 1931 Reds won two of their first 19 games.

Bud Norris allowed Adam Duvall's ninth-inning leadoff homer and the Reds got a runner to second with nobody out. Norris struck out Alex Blandino and Phillip Ervin and got Billy Hamilton to line out to clinch his third save.

Homer Bailey (0-3) allowed four hits and three runs with four strikeouts and two walks in a season-high seven innings.

ATHLETICS 2, MARINERS 1

SEATTLE (AP) - Sean Manaea pitched seven strong innings and Jed Lowrie hit an early two-run homer off Felix Hernandez to lead Oakland over Seattle.

Oakland avoided a series sweep as Manaea (2-2) gave up just two hits and struck out four. It was the third time in four starts this season he has lasted at least seven innings.

Lowrie provided all the offense the A's needed with his fourth homer in the first inning. Blake Treinen finished with a four-out save.

Taylor Motter homered for the Mariners, who had won four in a row.

Felix Hernandez (2-2) worked into the seventh inning for the first time this year, giving up five hits in 6 1/3 innings.

DODGERS 7, DIAMONDBACKS 2

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Clayton Kershaw struck out 12 and pitched two-hit ball over seven innings and Los Angeles Dodgers ended an 11-game losing streak against Arizona in the regular season.

Los Angeles had been 0-5 versus the Diamondbacks this year, and hadn't beaten them in the regular season since last August. But the Dodgers swept Arizona 3-0 last year in the NL Division Series.

Chris Taylor homered, doubled and drove in three runs to help the Dodgers stop a three-game skid. The Diamondbacks, who had won three in row, finished a 6-3 road trip.

Kershaw (1-2) gave up one run, on Paul Goldschmidt's leadoff homer in the seventh, and has a 1.73 ERA after four starts. The Dodgers totaled just three runs in three previous starts this season by their ace lefty.

Zack Godley (2-1), who led the National League with a 0.64 ERA entering the game, allowed six runs and five hits and six walks in four innings.

PADRES 10, GIANTS 1

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Joey Lucchesi struck out nine in six innings, fellow rookie Christian Villanueva homered, doubled and drove in three runs, and San Diego cruised past San Francisco 10-1.

Jose Pirela was a home run short of the cycle and had three RBIs for the Padres, who have won five of seven. The Giants have lost four of five.

Lucchesi (2-0) was sharp in outpitching Tyler Beede (0-1) in a matchup of 24-year-old rookies. Lucchesi walked none and his nine strikeouts were his most in four big league starts. The lefty allowed one run and five hits.

Colon perfect through 6 innings for Rangers vs Astros
April 15, 2018

HOUSTON (AP) Bartolo Colon lost his bid for a no-hitter against the World Series champion Houston Astros when Josh Reddick doubled with nobody out in the eighth inning Sunday night.

The 44-year-old Colon was working on a perfect game for the Texas Rangers before walking Carlos Correa on a 3-1 pitch to start the eighth. Reddick then lined an 0-2 delivery down the right-field line, putting runners at second and third.

Opposing fans in Houston gave Colon a standing ovation, and he clapped his bare hand softly against the outside of his glove.

Two outs later, Colon was removed with the score tied at 1. He struck out seven and ended up with a no-decision.

On his way from the mound to the dugout, the good-humored Colon gestured toward Reddick with a quick flick of his hand.

Colon threw 96 pitches, 66 for strikes. A fan favorite all around the majors, the beefy right-hander nicknamed ''Big Sexy'' is on his ninth team in his last 11 seasons.

Colon's longest no-hit bid came with the Cleveland Indians on Sept. 18, 2000, when he held the New York Yankees hitless for 7 1/3 innings. He finished with a one-hitter in a 2-0 win at Yankee Stadium.

Going into the eighth, Texas led 1-0 on a home run by Robinson Chirinos off Astros ace Justin Verlander in the third, the only hit of the game to that point.

In the dugout, Colon's teammates left him all alone on the bench - adhering to traditional superstition - as he grinned and tossed a ball to himself.

Kenny Rogers threw Texas' most recent no-hitter, in July 1994.

Braves-Cubs finale postponed by rain
April 15, 2018

CHICAGO (AP) This time, the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs never got on the field.

Sunday's series finale was postponed by rain and rescheduled for May 14, setting up an unusual four-game set that begins in Chicago and finishes with three in Atlanta.

It also was wet, cold and windy on Saturday, but the teams played through the conditions and the Cubs rallied for a wild 14-10 victory over the Braves. When it was over, both sides were critical of the decision to play.

This was Atlanta's only scheduled trip to Chicago.

''Driving out again, it was remarkably bad,'' Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. ''It's just the right thing to do. It's not about just getting games in. You want to be able to play the game on a major league-caliber, championship-caliber level.

''Yesterday's game, we were fortunate actually that it was played in its entirety, because that's why we won that game, based on how badly the conditions were by the end of the game, et cetera. So we'll take it, but I'm glad that the decision was made this way today.''

Five other major league games were postponed Sunday - White Sox at Twins, Angels at Royals, Blue Jays at Indians and the Yankees-Tigers doubleheader in Detroit - running the season total to 21. That is baseball's highest number through the end of April since there were 26 in 2007.

It was the second postponement of the Cubs' first homestand after their home opener against Pittsburgh was pushed back a day by snow.

''If it was up to me, no one would play north of Atlanta or east of Colorado in the first few weeks, but that's not going to happen,'' Braves reliever Peter Moylan said.

Saturday's gametime temperature was 38 degrees, and there was a 24 mph wind and a steady mist. The temperature fell and the wind increased as the game progressed.

The Braves chased Jose Quintana in the third on their way to a 10-2 lead. But the Cubs went ahead to stay with nine runs in the eighth on just three hits, taking advantage of five walks, two hit batters, an error and a wild pitch.

The weather was the ''worst I've ever been in,'' Braves manager Brian Snitker said. ''When you went on the mound, it was 10 times worse than it was in the dugout and it was miserable in the dugout. I don't know how they did it. The infielders were all plotting to shuffle the ball because they said they couldn't throw it.''

Snitker said he will keep his rotation in order after Sunday's rainout. That means Julio Teheran will pitch Monday against Philadelphia in the opener of a seven-game homestand.

Chicago also will stay in line, with Tyler Chatwood going for his first win with the Cubs in the opener of a three-game series against St. Louis. The Cubs also expect to have first baseman Anthony Rizzo back in the lineup Monday after he went on the disabled list with lower back tightness.

Rain postpones Blue Jays-Indians again
April 15, 2018

CLEVELAND (AP) The Cleveland Indians and Toronto Blue Jays will try again in a couple of weeks.

The teams will play a traditional doubleheader starting at 1:10 p.m. on May 3 at Progressive Field after their series finale was postponed by rain Sunday. The game was called about four hours before the scheduled 1:10 p.m. first pitch. Saturday's game also was rained out.

Toronto, in its only previously scheduled trip to Cleveland this season, broke the Indians' five-game winning streak with an 8-4 victory Friday night.

Both teams should have a better chance of getting on the field in their next series. The Indians open a two-game series in San Juan, Puerto Rico, against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night. The Blue Jays start a three-game series against Kansas City at Rogers Centre on Monday night.

Corey Kluber (1-1), working on seven days of rest, will pitch the first game against the Twins. The reigning AL Cy Young winner struck out 13 and allowed two hits in eight innings for his first win of the season against Detroit on April 9.

The Indians finished 6-2 on their first homestand of the season, which included a ballpark-record low temperature 32 degrees for the start of the April 8 game against Kansas City.

Cleveland's strong pitching has overcome a struggling offense. The Indians have allowed three runs or fewer in 10 games and gave up 16 runs in the homestand. Cleveland is batting .200 as a team but has reached double figures in hits the last three games.

Shortstop Francisco Lindor has raised his average from .159 to .241 and driven in five runs the last three games. Third baseman Jose Ramirez, after finishing third in last season's AL MVP voting, is batting .160 while designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion is hitting .146 and had a 0-for-21 slump during the homestand.

The Indians are gradually working left fielder Michael Brantley into the lineup after he missed the first week while returning from offseason ankle surgery. Brantley is batting .286 with four RBIs in six games.

Jaime Garcia (1-0) had been scheduled to start Sunday for Toronto, which has won seven of 10.

The Blue Jays are playing without third baseman Josh Donaldson, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday with a sore right shoulder. The 2015 AL MVP is batting .239 with three homers and nine RBIs in 12 games.

Donaldson is in Florida working on a throwing program; it's unclear how long he'll be out.

Left fielder Teoscar Hernandez, called up from Triple-A Buffalo to replace Donaldson, drove in the winning run with an RBI double in the seventh inning off relief ace Andrew Miller on Friday.

Right fielder Randal Grichuk, acquired from St. Louis in January, has struggled through the first two weeks, batting .071 amid a 1-for-16 slump.

Monday morning's annual Patriots' Day game postponed
April 16, 2018

BOSTON (AP) The annual Patriots' Day game scheduled for Monday morning at Fenway Park has been postponed because of the forecast of heavy rain.

The Red Sox made the announcement about an hour after their 3-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, which completed an abbreviated three-game series sweep and gave Boston an 8-1 record on its first homestand of the season.

The game is scheduled for a May 17 makeup, which is a mutual off day for the teams before they start an already scheduled series at Fenway Park.

It's the first postponement of the game - which has been scheduled annually since 1959 - for weather since 1984. The game was canceled due to a players' strike in 1995.

The first pitch had been slated for 11:05 a.m.

Quote of the Day

Monday?s quiz
What team did Bartolo Colon begin his major league career with?

Monday?s List of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend

13) Idea for a reality TV show: Pro teams do exit interviews with players after each season; would be television gold to see some of them, especially with disgruntled players, or with guys who are delusional about their abilities. Kind of like a postseason Hard Knocks.

For instance, Cowboys/Dez Bryant exit interview in December must?ve been a good one.

12) Los Angeles Angels used nine different starting pitchers in their first 15 games this year, the most by any team in their first 15 games since the 1960 Baltimore Orioles.

11) Monday morning?s 11am Orioles-Red Sox game was postponed late Sunday afternoon, so no need to post your fantasy lineups early Monday. This is first time since 1984 the Patriots Day game was rained out.

It also means I get to sleep later Monday morning 🙂

10) Odd managing in the Brewers-Mets game Sunday; Mets led 1-0 in top of 5th inning, Brewers had a guy on 3rd with two men out, and pitcher Jhoulys Chacin was due up, you think they?d pinch-hit for him, but Chacin grounded out to shortstop. Since Chacin hit, you assume he?ll pitch the bottom of the 5th inning, right?

Wrong. Milwaukee takes Chacin out after not pinch-hitting for him with the tying run on third base. Go figure. Must be an analytics thing.

9) Boston media will be happy; Angels? rainout in Kansas City Sunday means that Shohei Ohtani will make his next start against the Red Sox in Anaheim Tuesday night.

8) Six baseball postponements Sunday; the only time in last 20 years with six postponements in one day was September 12, 2008.

7) Oakland starting pitchers have finished the 6th inning in 3 of their 16 games; three times by Sean Manaea, zero times by everyone else.

For the record, the A?s traded Ben Zobrist for Manaea, back when they helped he Royals win the World Series with that trade- now it is paying off for them.

6) Saturday night in Dodger Stadium, Arizona?s Deven Marrero hit a home run, but passed the runner on first base, who was going back to tag up, thinking the ball might be caught.

Play results in a 2-run single for Marrero, but he does not score because he passed a runner, so he was out on the play- that doesn?t happen very often.

5) Matt Harvey hasn?t gotten an out in the 6th inning in any of his starts since May 28, 2017 vs Pittsburgh- thats 11 starts in a row. Harvey is a free agent after this season; good luck there.

4) NFL Draft note: New England drafted a DL/LB with its first pick in five of last six drafts.

3) Pacers 98, Cavaliers 80? Lebron James teams had won their last 21 first round playoff games, but that streak was ended rudely here.

2) Twins had a miserable baseball-free weekend at home, with a foot of snow falling; now they head to Puerto Rico to play a couple of games with the Indians in San Juan.

1) They had 23 inches of snow in Green Bay this weekend, in mid-April. Oy.

Whoa, Your Wife Is Ugly!

Three guys die together in an accident and go to heaven.

When they get there, St. Peter says, "We only have one rule here in heaven: Don't step on the ducks!"

So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place.

It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, the first guy accidentally steps on one.

Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest woman he has ever seen. St. Peter chains them together and says:

"Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to the ugly woman!"

The next day, the second guy steps accidentally on a duck, and along comes St. Peter, who doesn't miss a thing, and with him is another extremely ugly woman.

He chains them together with the same admonishment as for the first guy.

The third guy has observed all this and not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly woman, is very, VERY careful where he steps.

He manages to go months without stepping on any ducks, but one day St. Peter comes up to him with the most gorgeous woman he has ever laid eyes on: a very tall, tan, curvaceous, sexy blonde.

St. Peter chains them together without saying a word.

The guy remarks, "I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all of eternity?"

She says, "I don't know about you, but I stepped on a duck!"
