well for the sake of the argument, the only guys that id rather have starting a game for me:

clemens (arguably GOAT)
santana
oswalt
healthy schilling
healthy pedro
halladay
mussina (one of the most underrated pitchers of the last decada)
healthy prior

harden and liriano dont count as they havent done it for more than a year or two.

guys just below beckett:

peavy
lackey
carpenter
smoltz
sheets
zito

nothing about beckett has been inconsistent over his career. this year has been up and down but thats abnormal for him

In fact give me his former teamate Dontrelle as well.

carpenter ill give you, because the only reason he didnt dominate with toronto was arm trouble.

but i wont give you dontrelle, especially since very few pitchers in the league are as inconsistent as willis. there are times when willis has been absolutely hammered. that rarely happens with beckett.

zito has always been one of my favorite pitchers, but he hasnt been himself since 2002 when he was cy young caliber.

as far as webb goes, hes solid. but no pitcher that has ever had a 7-16 season should be in a top 5 discussion. i know every pitcher has a down year. but 7-16 is just an implosion, and a sign that your stuff is hittable.

zambrano i simply left of the list by accident. im not sure hes better than beckett. but hes every bit as good and definitely needs to be in the discussion. he walks too many guys for my liking, and that makes him a tough pitcher to back when he is upwards of -200 sometimes but when he is on he is awesome

Webb is 16-6 with a 2.92 ERA this year.

I'm still taking Webb.

I think we both agree we'd take Zombrano.

Clemens
Halladay
Santana
Oswalt
Zombrano
Schilling
Mussina
Martinez
Carpenter
Sheets

Even without Webb, Zito, Prior or Dontrelle.

Beckett IMO is a top 15 pitcher.

Also I wonder what Webb's W-L record would be if he played on a solid team, he has a career ERA of 3.24. 47-43 overall.

Beckett is 56-44. With a 3.83 ERA.
