do you ever consider the teams? I know the line and public perception is what you consider. I have been here for 4 years watching you go against the public almost every single play. Which is a very good idea. But dont you want to pick your battles? Because by doing it your way I belive you will make a profit. Actually I know you will make a profit. I have seen you make a profit. But picking 5.5 correct out of ten? I am not saying I can do better. Because I cant. But every good capper on this board knows 75% of your selctions before you post them. Trust me there is no worse feeling I have then having a game and seeing you on the other side. But after a while I learned that t out if 2 we will each get one. For example tonight. You got texas and sHall. You will probably split. I got the other 2. But if okie state or uconn loses It will be a big upset. Those 2 teams are clearly playing better basketball that there opponets. I cant risk my money hte chance that seton hall or texas is going to beat superior teams because they are at home.

I know you will make money every season doing that. I would just not have fun picking the same STYLE. of game every time. Whenever you pick a Double digit fav i load up. Because I am so shocked you picked a fav. Anywyas Volfan just wondeirng your thinking process. I really enjoy looking at your picks all these years.

GL Bro! The HALL gets it done tonight....UCONN isn't anything to ride home about IMO this year. Backs against the wall for the Hall in a big way just like NCST yesterday. GL with your other plays!

Just so this does not to run into a stupid thread. All I was saying and would like to know is how volfan comes up with his 5x plays. And why do I know what they are going to be. Volfan I think you are a great capper and would just like to know your thought process.

Volfan: Sorry to clog up your thread with other stuff, but I want to respond to Mistake Finder.

MF: It is funny you mention this.....because I used to handicap the SAME way as Volfan. All I did was look to see which lines I thought didnt look right, and go the other way. It didnt matter what team it was....I just went the other way. However, this year I have taken that outlook and "revised" it a tad.

Normally, the old me would take the same 2 teams Vol has.....and you are right....more often you will split. But now I have mixed in a little bit of basketball into my handicapping......

For instance, I have seen UCONN play and they are absolutely terrible. And by no means, will I ever back this team as a road chalk. The betting public is still probably hung up on the name of UCONN, and there you have the line. However, I do not trust Seton Hall either......as they do not have any shot makers, and their home court advantage is not that great. This is now a layoff game for me.

Texas and Oklahoma State......I am not sure that when all is said and done, that this will be a big difference in the betting public.....You do have Texas as a Top 10 team as a home dog. But I think a lot of the luster has been taken off Texas in recent games. Oklahoma State is a Top 3 team IMHO......senior talent is rarely effected by going on the road......oklahoma state has all the pieces.....ball handling, everyone can knock down the jumper, size, rebounding and toughness. Seeing this team as almost a pick-em is a gift......

Old me takes Texas (when I know damn well that Oklahoma State is the better team)...new me takes Oklahoma State because I know damn well, if I trick myself and go the other way, I will be pissed.

Contrary to popular belief , I do a bit more than fade "public" plays. I take in consideration line moves, stats , and trends. Tex opened +2 , lots of action on Ok St yet the line moves down???
I have uconn 3 better than SH so +5 at home is a play for me.
I don't buck trends that work (unranked fav) ....
I read a lot of stats, ect, ect... Sometimes it is just as easy as reading the line.

Mistake Finder:

Enlighten me if you will. . . you mentioned above that UCONN and Okie State are clearly playing better ball then their opponents right now. I can understand your argument for OSU but please explain UCONN. How are they playing so much better then Seton Hall?

And how are they playing so much better then Seton Hall when you factor in their road woes?

In my opinion, UConn isn't playing that great at all. . . their ranking is inflated because they are UConn not because they have quality wins (especially on the road). Seton Hall just recently lost a squeaker to Notre Dame but I believe UConn would struggle with Notre Dame just the same.

GL to both of you tonight. . . I like Seton Hall for sure. . . normally I'd be on Texas and I still may go that way but I would think Texas would be a 1-2 point favorite. . . just because the line is OSU -1 doesn't give me that much motivation to take Texas.

funny, but in fifty words or so, volfan says more about handicapping than i see in five thousand words from some others.

Was looking at CSU myself. . . looks like they match up well or as well as you can against Utah's 7 footer. . .

Agreed Im not into handicapping necessarily to make money. I make my own money, and I enjoy sports wagering alot and it allows me to constantly be involved in what I like most, sports...and as long as im not losing what I cant afford and im making a decent dime every here and then I am more than happy to handicapp/wager...best of luck

Questioning Volfans betting style? Are you baggin me?

Volfan is the ONLY person that I follow BLINDLY. I don't care what anyone has to say about "do your own research, blah blah..."

Log on to MJ's, search for Volfan and your CBB capping is complete. No kidding, he's that good!

Thanks VOLFAN !!

I don't think MF was questioning Vol's style at all. . . he even said that Vol wins more often then not. He did say that 75% of Vols picks could be determined based on Vols betting style, but I would argue that only 25% could be. . . he does come up with a lot of winners from games that I never thought he would consider
