caper:

marshall is so hard to figure out. i caught their game with bg on saturday. that game was truly a tale of 2 halves, and that is marshall in a nutshell for ya. they were great in the 1st half, getting tons of transition baskets and basically dominating bowling green (even though the halftime margin was just 2). then in the 2nd half, their defense was atrocious and they got blown out in the final 5:00. i cant see how this marshall/akron game not having a lot of points. one thing that scares me about the zips is they are dismal at the free throw line, and that makes them a scary chalk. but theyre a much better team than marshall imo. herd has been on the road for the last week. not sure which team will show. tough game for sure. you are correct in saying that tarver could have a big game. not sure marshall has anyone to stop him

Bottom line is Nova played out their ass with Bloch and company draining wild 3s in the 2h. Joes looked disinterested and basically toyed with them the whole way. The anti-Joes contingent on the board will now start spouting about #16 seed victories, but this was not even Joes average game, and they basically coasted.

As a final comment on Joes, I think it might be instructional to remember their trip to the tournament in Nelson's freshman team. That team was not as good as this one and just barely lost to #1 seed Stanford in a game they led almost the whole way. St. Joes can go deep in the tourney whether you all want to believe it or not.

thanks for that post. both teams had plenty of chances to cover, neither team truly seized control of the "spread cover" in the 2nd half. lost my small shot on the moneyline. joes did a nice job of getting out fast and making nova play catchup. both teams showed some good things and some bad things. good basketball game to watch after both teams settled in. nova FTs were a killer though  gl buddy

I respect no one's opinion on this board more than yours. You are as solid as they come. FWIW, I think the ml here was the better play, even though it was the loser.

You'll get yours. Good luck.

disinterested in a rare national TV spot against a big 5 rival? i doubt it. i respect a lot of the stuff you say and agree with almost all of your posts, but this one is a little over the top. perhaps its just a little hard to come agree as lucid as we might like over a computer. i think i see where youre coming from though

st.joes did some good things tonight. i was impressed with their aggressiveness. but i still feel gonzaga has a much more realistic shot to go deep into the tourney.

I havent seen anyone say St Joes isnt a good team - but they are not a title contender. With the right bracket and being put in the East to play 4 games close to home I guess the FF is a possibility, but some of guys act like this is the greatest team in the history of college basketball and it just isnt so.

and let's face it - Nova is not good and that's the 2nd biggest test ST Joe's will face until March (not including having to look a the women on campus of course)

i would agree. some might say dayton will be a test, but i doubt it. if xavier wouldnt have made some boneheaded plays, they woulda won that game outright on saturday. instead they folded and let dayton win that game. rhode island the only real test left. we'll see.

i know this sounds crazy but i think if joes goes into the tourney undefeated, that makes them all the more vulnerable to an upset. i dont see a loss on their schedule, but a fluke one wouldnt be the worst thing

Air Force/UNLV total???

Air Force/UNLV total???

hey gman didn't you have something awhile back on Big Monday's, when the 1st 2 games go under the late game tends to also?? .... as you said in that post all 3 games are independent of each other, but kind of an interesting trend i guess you'd call it. Am I all wet or did you have that in a thread awhile back??

you know what, i got all wrapped up in the joes game and some other work that i didnt even notice that unlv/afa would qualify.

ill try and find that old post and cut and paste it.

fwiw, a buddy of mine has done the exact data research and it is 11-2 since 2001 (that record takes into account only when a midnight game would qualify)

i suppose i should offer this caveat: today was a weird big monday with a 4th game added to the espn slate. but the regular 7pm/9pm games went under

I don't think I watched the same game as you did, gman2. I had Nova and I am absolutely thrilled to get out of there with a push! St. Joe's should have won by 20+. And also, what's the chances of St. Joe's missing their last three FTs to allow the push. Yikes. Very fortunate to get a push.
