THAT'S gonna be hard to swallow if bet on the Yankees at +180 or so. Wow, how can MLB not get these things right is beyond me.

I guess this is that "human element" they covet so much.

MLB isn't at fault  Girardi chose not to challenge.

Something that happened that required super zoom to verify and you're wondering why "MLB can't get these things right?" xstop

Umpire couldn't distinguish between the sound of the ball hitting a person or the wooden bat from two feet away? I'm gonna file that under "human element" they keep talking about.

Did something happen besides the grandslam or whatever?

The batter prior to the GS had two strikes on him and the pitch hit the knob of his bat and deflected into the catcher's mitt which should be a strikeout. Instead the ump deemed it a hit by pitch which loaded the bases and thus the GS following.

Should have been the end of the inning with Yankees still leading 8-3, instead it was 8-7. Now it's tied and gonna be hard for the Yankees to regroup.

You are correct, Girardi should have challenged it, replay was pretty clear as to what happened.

I got no dog in this fight, but I do hate to see horrible calls decide games.

Yep, replay zoomed in, slow motion, no sound lol

Umpire gets none of that discretion. Gotta love experts who've never done what they're critiquing.

This wasn't your standard runner thrown out at the bag missed call. You're asking an umpire to base a decision off sound over eyes when there's prob 45k going nuts at the time.

This is about 1% umpire fault, and 99% Girardi fault.
