Chicky's thread got me thinking about some of my stuff and I would be interested in seeing if some of you guys have any special items that you have hung on to.

My best score came when I got 3 copies of the 2002 " Chosen One" Lebron James Sports illustrated while he was still at St V in Akron. The lady across the street for me used to work in the cafeteria there and her husband was the tennis coach so all I had into it was the cover price. I sold two of them to the same guy for some pretty good cheese a couple of years ago. I'm still hanging on to the last one.

Another interesting and really oddball item I have is an autographed racing program that I got in person from Scioto Downs in Columbus back in 1980. It was signed by none other than the later disgraced Ohio State QB Art Schlichter. I was offered $100 for it but decided to keep it because it's just a unique item.

For you younger guys that may not know, Schlichter was truly a supremely talented QB at OSU but his gambling addiction was off the charts. He stole huge amounts of cash form family, friends and anybody else to fuel his addiction. As far as I know, he's still in a federal prison.

I've got a baseball and card signed by Kenny Keltner.
He was a no name B player, but he is the one that is largely credited with stopping DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak because of a few spectacular plays he made in the 57th game.

Hudson Valley area.....NY
1953 Mickey Mantle
....perfect cut, no creases...mint condition...worth about $3,200...took it to a dealer..offered me $2700...
.Until he turned it over....half of the back print has a big black spot in the middle. I took it down to North Texas my freshman year and put some of that puddy glue on the back of the card and had it posted on my dorm locker...I guess when I moved I peeled off some of the print ...always posted it on the wall or lockers of my dorm or apartments... wasn't until a few years later when baseball cards became popular and Beckett started pricing them...
They offered me $350 for the card with the damages..I told them to shove it...I have it in my living room in a hard plastic cover...I show the cards to my friends...perfect cut,not one single crease...they ask how much is it worth in amazement. then I tell them and show them the back....and the story...what a fool..

but I did manage to keep about 150 of the 1956's and 57's of the stars...Willie,Ted,Hank,etc..my mom threw 1,000 away but I did keep my specials in a sneaker box with about 30 rubber bands around it.. I guess my mother saw the box was protected and didn't throw those out...most of them are not mint because we flipped cards back then... and thats how this New Yorker became a Phillies fan...they were my favorite flipper cards... the red P..and I could trade and get 5 Richie Asburns for one Mantle... if only there was a Beckett book back then...
