My sons' 3-4yo TBall team, of which I am the coach, participated in the playground fair this morning. After the game, I wandered over to the fastball velocity booth.

In the age 20+ category, the leader was 67mph. I figured that I could beat that with limited warmup. I talked a big game, so the crowd grew around me. Pressure was on.....

They gave me three throws, so I planned to throw the first two at 3/4 speed and then fire away on #3 to approach the 70mph plateau that I feltt was well within my grasp.

Results:

54mph
56mph
63mph :(

To top it off, I lost beer wagers to three buddies, my fingers were stinging for an hour afterwards, I still feel a twinge in my neck and my shoulder is now stiff:sadwave:

welcome to getting old:scared

He ain't old. He couldn't have done better when he was 25 either. There's some secret or it's a gift to be able to throw even 80MPH and being accurate is another thing.

I forgot to mention that I have a sharp pain at the top of my shoulder. Especially when I lift my arm.......
Imagine throwing 100 pitches at 90MPH + and accurately :SIB

Not to mention the curveballs and how those would effect your elbow.

Where it is real F ing COLD
I was 74 two years ago at the fair.. I play a lot of softball now adays so I do stay in a throwing shape and stretch my arm with long tosses twice a week in the summer.. If I didn;t do that I would probably be in the low 60s maybe high 50s

Of course you can

I don't think 40 would be that hard, especially for someone who used to be a QB. I'm guessing if he was a QB he could easily clear 50 when he played, and probably closer to 60.

Then again, I don't know anything about the guy, how old he is, etc. so I could be way off. But I'm taking your word for it dunclock. :SIB

I am older than Brett Farve:142smilie :142smilie :142smilie

my nephew went to Southern Miss on scholarship as QB...kid had GOLDEN arm and nickle brain....he could throw a ball over 70 yards {on film) but was "asked" to leave school after getting caught with the head coach daughter who was the high school head cheerleader:scared

and I am trying to get him to the golf outing so ask him yourself if you dont believe me:142smilie

No, I definitely believe it. That was kind of what I was getting at -- anyone who plays QB, even if it's just high school, has to have a good arm. I never played ball past high school, but the QB on our team back then (who was also a pitcher on the baseball team) could throw 65 yards. I'd be stunned if he couldn't throw 40 yards these days, even though it's 17 or 18 years later.

This has me curious now... I think I'm going to grab a piece of chalk and mark off 120 feet and see if I can still throw that far. :mj07:
