Not sure how Maryland and Navy got the same bye weeks but neither play this week. Good timing for me as I am away on Saturday so I am taking this week off in College with the Terps and Midshipmen. There is actually nothing that really stands out to me though I would be very happy to see TCU lose again after they cost me a lot of money last week!

Didn't get to watch a lot on Saturday, but I taped a few games so I could watch a few teams play, especially Air Force since they host Navy this week.

Few things that caught my eye last week:

Nebraska is really bad. Struck by how undisciplined they were, the porous defense and how bad the QB play was. Early returns of all fronts are bad for Frost here, especially with regards to discipline.

Jame Franklin is exactly who I thought he was, great motivator but clueless with X's and O's. He is not one of my favorites coaches anyway, but the last play call was just plain brain dead. The fact that he tried to make excuses is pathetic. He blew this game and it won't be the last one.

I really like Fuentes at VT and was good to see them bounce back in a big way. I like them to beat Notre Dame this week. Yup, outright win. If I was younger, I would be making this trip as that place will be completely insane Saturday, It is a shame that this game is not at night. Blacksburg is one of my all-time favorite places to visit for a game.

Air Force looked absolutely terrible in the FH of their game against Nevada. Sure they were looking ahead, but it makes it tough to cap this week since based on their play in that game Navy looks like a solid play. I definitely think it affected the line as I expected to see it open at a Pk.

Was actually hoping Michigan played better at Northwestern given they have Maryland coming in this week. Michigan is sitting at -17 and I was hoping for more. Maryland has to be encouraged by seeing Northwestern move the ball and I think they can do the same as I think MD is better than NW. Wild card is Canada. There is no one there to restrain him which is why I hate him being the head coach and the coordinator. They have 2 great running backs and they need to use them better. Will be interesting to see how he used these 2 weeks to game plan on offense. This is a huge game for them with a national tv audience.

More to come....

A friend just pointed out that the Va Tech game is at night (sorry, thought I saw 12:00 before), so I like it even more. But also shows that no one is reading very carefully!!

I got the drop in the Navy line that I wanted

Navy -2.5 -110

I know Air Force will be better than last week and I know this is not Navy's strongest team, but from what I have watched I simply think Navy is the better team and will win this game. The week off has really helped them.

As for Maryland, I think they whole key to the game is the first quarter. If they can keep it close and not get behind early, I think they can stay in this game. Canada has to use Johnson and McFarland more and even together to keep defenses on their toes. Michigan will win the line of scrimmage so they have to try to stretch Michigan out some. They have had two week to prepare and hopefully they have put together an offense that can get on the board against Michigans strong defense. The MD defense has been good all year and they are really the key to the game. If they can get some early stops maybe it fuels the offense a little more. For betting, I think the number is right on. MD can hang as long as they do not get down early but I am not 100% confident they can do that so I am not playing this game straight for now. I will likely add a teaser if the line goes up closer to game day.

I did play

Va Tech +7.5 -120

I just think this is a tough spot for Notre Dame. All the talk of them running the table and being in the playoffs is a little much. Va Tech will push them in this game. The atmosphere will be unbelievable and fuel a strong defensive effort. It will be on the Tech offense to score and keep them in this one. I believe they can win this game.

Small tease I like now:

Navy+7.5
Kentucky +15.5 - gets no respect
Texas +17.5 - do not like them but they should keep this close

Thanks Longhorn, I think your boys have a shot today.

Given this MD game way too much thought. I am playing

Maryland Ov 45 -115

I think this is the best way to play this one as I think it protects against the blowout. With the two weeks to prepare I will be surprised if Maryland does not score at least a couple TDs. They have big play ability and should get a couple big plays.

Been hitting some parlays lately so taking a big shot today. Likely a loser but what the hell:

Va Tech +205
Texas +220
Mississippi State +150

This one will pay +2340!

I probably should have done a better weather check. MD game is delayed and looks to be a mess so total is getting hammered down. I am not buying out, but I would proceed with caution.

On paper not a great week, but it wasn't that bad for me. Had a nice hedging opportunity at halftime for the ML parlay so I made some back with ND halftime bet. Still would have like VT to finish them off, but they just ran out of juice in the second half. Should have used Northwestern instead as I liked them also.

Well, Navy is bad. They had two weeks to prepare and their offense was terrible. Guess I was more hopeful, but I do not see many more wins on their schedule this year. I will not be on them much more this year as they simply can not be trusted to score.

Maryland was also disappointing with the week off, but got the win with the over. I am officially not a fan of Matt Canada. He is trying to force an offensive system on this team rather than taking advantage of the strengths he has. To me, that is the sign of a bad coach. You have to work with what you have. He has a strong offensive line and great RBs, you have to use them. Instead he puts in all this bs motion all over the place and passes the ball. His game plan for this game was terrible. McFarland only touches the ball 9 times and Johnson 5. McFarland will be an NFL running back and he rarely gets the ball. It better change or he is going to leave. The word is the last report is being structured so that they can keep Durkin. I still find that hard to believe, but I hope it is true because this is a team in desperate need of a head coach. No discipline, tons of penalties and no one to tell Canada what to do. There has to be a reason Canada can not stay anywhere and now I know why. Maybe another Lane Kiffin. This team still has a chance for a bowl as they get Illinois, Rutgers and Michigan State at home, but Canada needs to get his head out of his ass.

Some initial thoughts for this week.

Maryland -24 vs Rutgers
Navy +5.5 vs Temple

Not sure MD should be favored by this one over anyone but Rutgers is really bad. I lean to Rutgers + right now. It is hard to play against Navy at home especially as a dog. I watch Temple completely shut down the Maryland running game and I think they should be able to handle Navy's speedless attach.

Will likely be on the overs in Mississippi, Nebraska and Alabama no matter what the numbers are. They have been money.

UVA +5.5 looks tempting at home after Miami's win this week.

I also played

Mississippi Ov 70

as I think it flies easily over this number. Will likely tie it to Northwestern and/or the Over in that game in another parlay. Not sure why Northwestern is only -4 in this game. Am I missing something? Nebraska sucks. Also like Bama over but was not expecting it to be so high at 74.5.

Wanting a little action tonight, so put this 3-team tease in:

App St -.5
Wisconsin +17.5 - starting to really like this one at 7.5
UVA +16 - they will hang with Miami

Michigan line is getting out of hand

Wisconsin +10.5

Maybe I am off, but I just do not think Michigan is that good. Will be surprised if Wisconsin does not stay within this number.

Also playing

UVA +7.5

As for the Maryland game. I think 24 is too many points, but just like last week, I am going with the over in this one

Maryland Ov 51.5

Another blah week as I just can not seem to get on track.

I played this yesterday (I apologize as I know the line has come down a tad)

Navy +14 -125

While I do not like this Navy team on offense this year, I can not avoid taking 14 points at home against just about anyone. While there season is not going well, you do know that they will come to play every week. I expect them to give Houston all they can handle.

Maryland line has been dropping all week and I will wait to see where it lands. Stands at +9.5 right now, but was +12 early this week.

I really liked UVA last week and they pulled off the upset, but I think they will have a tough time on the road this week. I also think Michigan State will give Michigan a game as this one is always close and I really do not understand how Temple is 3.5 point favorites against Cincy, so I played the following 4 team 7 point teaser:

Duke Ev
Michigan State +14
Temple +3.5
Army -1

Will update Maryland later in the week.

I think the Maryland line bottomed out at 9. I think Iowa will totally focus on stopping the run and force Hill to beat them through the air. My guess is Canada will abandon the run and pass more than he should, which has been his m.o. against better teams. The Maryland defense will keep them in this game and I do not expect a lot of points in this one, but the total reflects that at 45. I am using Iowa in a few teasers in NCAA and NFL as I simply do not think they will lose to MD at home. I will also buy it down to 7, if I can, and use in a parlay or two. The West division of the Big 12 is a joke compared to the East (seriously the divide between those 2 divisions is bad, they should be adjusted as the current structure and status of the teams hurts the Big 12 when it comes to the playoff, especially if Mich St happens to upset Michigan), so Iowa has a great opportunity to win it and I think they get the job done in an ugly game.

Do not see a lot of big upset potential this week, but I do think Michigan State can win and I think Indiana will give Penn St. a game as they have to be deflated after last week. I will continue to play against Auburn also as they are simply not that good. Lines are finally catching up with them, but would not be surprised to see them lose again this week. Stanford is tempting for me tonight for some action. Everyone counting them out but with a win they still control their division.

I like Maryland and the points this week. I'm not sold on Iowa and they are probably looking ahead to Penn State next week which is a game that they know will tell them if they are for real or not.

I'm a Michigan fan and the offensive line has completely turned things around since the first 3 or 4 games when they looked lost. Michigan State was banged up going into Penn State last week but was able to pull out the win. With Michigan playing better and MSU beat up, it seems like it should be all Wolverines.....but it never is. This game is always tight and the rivalry is huge for both sides (probably more so for MSU).

I also like Indiana getting 15 points. Expect PSU to come out sluggish after that unexpected loss to Sparty last week.

I have been wrong about Michigan in just about every game this year, so I may have put the jinx on Michigan St. But history has been kind to the dog here so I still like getting a TD.

I really do not like Franklin as a coach. He is a cheerleader and a front runner, so I have doubts about his ability to get his team up for this game. I honestly do not know much about Indiana as I have yet to see them play, but they will be up for this game so getting 2 TD's at home is a play for me.

Adding

Nebraska Ov 55

Appears to be a lot of steam on Nebraska today as the line is up to -5. If they win they will have to put up a lot of points because there defense is bad. I think over the total is the way to go here.

One more

UCF Ov 65

They have to win big to impress voters and they get the perfect defense here. They should be able to score at least 50 here themselves so just need a little help from ECU.

I have absolutely had it with Matt Canada. He is a fucking disaster of an offensive coordinator, let alone an interim head coach. His offense is in complete and utter disarray and it is all on him. They get worse every week. His play calling totally sucks and he refuses to use the talent he has on offense. I gave him a chance, but he blows. Durkin has to be questioned for hiring this loser. Sorry for the rant, but he has to be one of the worst coaches I have seen in a long time. He has to go if Maryland has any chance to improve this program.
