Alright guys, need a few suggestions on "must go" places for my next trip to NO coming up in May. I have been to a couple of "must do's" in Mothers, Cafe Du Monde, The Cathedral, and Jackson Square, but I plan on knocking about four more off the list this time in between drunken stupors. I already know one will be the war memorial as I really wanted to go there last time but simply ran out of time. As for food, I will tell you I am not looking to really leave the FQ, and I really don't care about "fancy" restaurants as the "grit" of a place like Mothers makes it all the better. Also, I know it's blasphemy but not an arts guy either. Will be there may 6th-10th and think we are staying at the Marriott. Arriving wed the 6th by myself with he rest of the crew arriving Thursday. If any of you local guys(missed you last trip cie) will be around Wed evening and want to grab a drink let me know.

If you're heading to Mothers then is not too far for to enjoy the best char broiled oysters in NOLA, Dragos at Hilton Riverside. You don't even have to make it a fancy dinner. For $25 bucks you sit at the bar, have two Abitas, and a dozen oysters while your SO shops Canal or Riverwalk.

I'll leave the rest to the experts. Personally I enjoy St Charles trolley in the early morning.

Will actually be staying across the street at Harrahs that wed night by myself so will either hit Dragos for a late dinner or early lunch Thu. Jack, have heard multiple people talk about acme, think I am going to try that one out as well.

I like Felix's for oysters better than Acme, but both awesome. Favorite bar is Lafitte's Blacksmith:toast:

I'm with Jack and BoP on this. Acme's char-grilled oysters are to die for. Best I have ever had and I love oysters!

I am a big fan of the chargrilled oysters at both acme and drago's, but usually hit the suburban acme location for convenience. A few years ago, Mad Jackie and I had a good meal at acme on Iberville (between bourbon and royal), but there is often a line on weekends. You should be good on wednesday night, though. The drago's Hilton location is probably more convenient for you since it's closer to harrahs and the Marriott . Plus, there will likely be a spot at the bar.

Like Woods mentioned, $25 plus tip will get you 2 beers and a dozen chargrilled oysters at either spot.

As Lucy mentioned, there are less touristy and outstanding oyster spots, like felix, but I don't see an increase in quality, just lighter crowds.

I'll send you a couple of additional recommendations later. Wed night I'll be at the pelicans rockets game , but maybe we can grab a beer after depending if my buddy is down for it.

A friend of mine is the chef/co-owner of Borgne in the lobby of the hyatt. There is a good happy hour 3 or 4pm til 6pm with $5 apps and 2/1 craft beers. Great way to start your evening )if you get down here early enough. I'll probably go before the Hornets game if we make it downtown early enough.
