Can't believe they lost that game. ISU tried to give them the game numerous times, but they didn't want it. That last ISU drive was pathetic. INT with less than 3 to go, and they essentially take a knee on 3 straight plays to give Nebraska the ball back with 2:00, only needing 3 to win. Conservative playcalling like that kills me. Good for ISU for winning, but that playcalling was atrocious.
Quagmire....what did you expect Iowa State to do on that last drive???
They scored 7 points all day and pretty sure that came off a big trick play to set it up.
Had to run clock and make Neb use their 2 timeouts and not risk an INT. Yeah its conservative, but its also very smart.
Nebraska should have EASILY covered as well.
I understand the logic to "go get the 1st down" but you can't always do it. Not to mention, they didn't just kneel down. Nebraska stopped their runs like they did all day.
Only thing different I thought of when it happened was maybe a very safe screen on 3rd down, but Neb wasn't blitzing and more than likely would have stopped it anyway....or a sack/fumble/int/incompletion...
I knew you were just kidding about "kneeled".
Obviously you don't know what would happen. I'm just saying its tough to risk anything there, especially on a good defense that you've done nothing against.
Every situation is different so I don't agree with being this conservative every time.
My dad was the most conservative coach in history and he won a lot but there are times I don't agree with him.
After the INT and before ISU's last drive, given the time and timeout situation and the way the game had gone....I figured no matter what happened, Neb would get the ball back and at least get a FG attempt. I was just hoping they'd at least have to have a long drive to do it.
They got a decent punt too, but I'm sure they were hoping to put it inside the 10.
With the VERY conservative running calls...I have to believe ISU decided to either go get it or play very conservative and nothing in between....and of course went with the latter.
Gooogity, gooogity.
I think someone here was saying Nebraska is one of the top teams in the country :scared
