I have a Honda Accord. The SRS light is on(airbag). My airbag is 100% fine, but the car will not pass inspection without getting the light cut off. So the place I was getting the inspection done said he did not know how to do it. So i called like 10 places and finally the last place I called said I had to take to the honda dealership and they had to "un-code" it. Well i called there and made an appointment, as they said they could do it for $75. So i took it there today, and after waiting an hour the lady comes in and says it wont trigger a code and wont clear ... my work form says the following:

NO CODES BEING TRIPPED, CANNOT CLEAR LIGHT, POSSIBLE SRS CONTROL UNIT-TO START
PN#06772sv430

The last thing is a part for a new air bag system, which they wanna charge me $1100 total to install. I hate being cheap but $1100 for something thats not even broken is not my style. chit just does not make any sense to me.

Anybody know anything about cars? I have a buddy that works on them that I am suppose to hear from tomorrow, but does anybody know if there is a way to go into the dashboard and just cut the fuse on the light? has to be a way around getting an new air bag system when its not even fricking broken.

thanks

well I am no expert but here goes.

get a piece of black duct tape.

tape it over the light. Take it to a differant inspection place.

Voila

PS you really should make sure the airbag is fully operational though.

3 places told me the air bag is working fine. the light has been on for 10 months and nothing has happened. The lady at the Honda dealership said Honda airbags dont emplode for no reason even if they are messed up.

Somebody else mentioned the tape, but i am 99% sure the people would notice it

Not sure about hondas, but in BMWs the leading cause of an ABS light warning is a dirty seat belt receiver. Find out where your sensors are located get a bottle of rubbing alcohol, some cotton swabs and try to clean inside and around those areas. If you have side airbags, have you had any work done on the doors or windows lately?

Could you give me the exact info on your Accord (year, # of doors, and trim level). I might be able to help you with this problem. Post up and I'll check into it while I'm at work. I got a nice little subscription to Honda Service Express. :)

battery is fairly new(i think). the car was not driven for like almost 2 full years(like 20 months). my step-dad worked on it, put new tires on it and got it running for me. i only drive this car like 200 miles a week. after like a month the light just came on one day as i was driving.

Could be a bad ground or wire came disconnected..Was the battery ever disconnected?Any sharp mechanic should be able to put a code reader on it and tell you exactly what the problem is. Good Luck

I have same problem with a 95 Acura Legend. But my Horn and cruise are also out. All fuses are good. Haven't taken it to the dealership, but from the research I've done it's the cable reel and they want azzloads of money to fix it.

A low voltage condition at any time can set off a SRS light. A good tech with some Honda exp. should know about the jumper used to reset the light. This is different than simply plugging in a code reader. :)

The cable reel should run you about $250 shipped and a tech with some Honda knowledge should charge you less than a $100 to put it in properly. :)
