So after years of living life and partying, I've decided to slightly grow up. I have erased all debt minus one Student Loan. Of course along the way I've torched my credit, mostly over the past 2-3 years. I have started the long road to building a base and looking to the future.

This is where I'm looking for advice. First, I need a credit card. I closed everything out and payed them off. I realize that part of my credit score will be on available credit I have, so my question to you what should I look for when getting a credit card? The 2 things I know to look for are apr and monthly fee's, am I missing anything else? Is there a company that you like or that I should attempt to get a CC from?

Second, what else could help my credit score? Savings acct? Mutual Funds? Anything other than paying my bills on time? And having open/unused credit?

I have some reading to do, but just looking for some advice. I'm sure some of you will read this and immediately think I'm a dumbass, ignorant, young and stupid.....you're right. That's why I'm trying to do things right and not fuck myself again.

Anyways, any advice is greatly appreciated....as for all dumbass comments that will be coming....well thanks for being better than me and making the comment I guess:shrug:

The easiest credit card to get is a gas card.

Start there. Use it and pay if off every month and dont be late. It will take awhile but gradually you will build up your credit again.

doesn't matter what card you get just don't charge more than you can afford to pay in full at the end month.

discover is our must used card it pays 1% to 5% cash back on purchases.

I think the Joker had that problem I bet he can help u

Good Luck ! :toast:

I have been there. You are not alone. Its hard being a player. Paying for trips to NYC, Jaimaca, scoring the next eight ball in Detroit to show I'm a baller.

The thing is. Credit is a great thing. And you need it to be a regular dude.

So what if you have to hit fatties for a couple years. Just hold your nose...

What you need is a secured card. Never been late on paymets. My credits score is 715. It was 485 not 5 years ago.

I owe to fat girls. Without them, I'd still be ppaying for yeager shhots.

Just hit fats girls for a few years and gop to buffets

You'll grin when you when.

And remember to hold the dice 2 and 2.

I'm affraid I can not do this :nono:

Get a secured card and pay on time for 6 months. Then you will be sent incredible deals.

Its a marathon not a race... and dont ever get ahead of what you can pay.

Youre a smart guy... its just about being responsible.

:toast:

Two years and you can buy whatever. I mean this. Orchard is a good card to start with. Get with a credit union.

:)

This is what I'm doing now....or at least attempting to be responsible.

As far as a card goes, I'm just gonna use it for something small every month and pay it off.

I'm 33 and and was 29 when I realixe that I needed credit no matter what the salary.

You're fine. BUT IT WILL TAKE TIME. Call Gary.

Definitely look for cards with a low interest rate, and stay away from cards that charge an annual fee. There are sites like www.lowermybills.com that do a pretty good job of comparing different cards. Or you could always just do a Google search.

As for boosting your credit score, the best thing you can do is pay your mortgage on time, every month. If you don't have a mortgage, just make sure you pay off all loans, credit cards, (all revolving debt) on time. Woodson's right, there isn't really a secret to quickly boosting your credit score. It will slowly go up in time if you are responsible and don't miss any payments.

One thing to note, your credit score will NOT be dinged as long as you aren't 30 days or more late. So in other words, if you get behind and miss a payment by, say, 2 weeks, you will have to pay the late payment fee, but your credit report will not show a missed payment. Always keep lates to less than 30 days, if at all possible.

Thanks Woody, Glen, and everyone so far. I definitely understand this will take time, but I'm just trying to make sure I'm on the right road.

right road isn't hard to see

the tuff part is not taking the easy and stupid road all in the name of a good time..

Party boys don't last..

and don't believe anyone who tells you otherwise.

They end up broke and lonely..

Become an authorized user on the credit card of someone with a good credit score of 715 or higher. This will help raise your credit score rather quickly. You do not have to use the card for this to work......
