Does anyone know why a horse trainer/owner might not want a horse to win a maiden race?
Madien races have only horse that are un proven. If a trainer/owner has an average or below average horse, it's the best arena for them to cash a check I suppose...:shrug: I would have to think that every owner/trainer would want to head to the winners circle.
It's for this reason you don't see any true "maiden" classes in harness racing anymore.
Most classes are written "non winners 1 race or $$ lifetime", and usually if they finish second twice in this class, it's time to move up.
There were instances where horses were "career maidens" and guys could make quite a bit more finishing second every time rather than having to move the horse up the ladder...
