steer clear from teh 13" screens, and even the 15" screens as much as possible.

If you get a 13-15" screen, you are going to end up buying a bigger monitor to stand alone, and then likely ending up grabbing a keyboard and mouse as well and turning the laptop into a docking station.

The amount of dollars you'll spend on that set up, would be better spent and probably equivalent to getting a 17inch screen to start with.

Hard drive size - i wouldn't worry about this too much either. If you can find a good deal on one with less hard drive space.. grab it. Don't make this be a decision maker for you. External HD's are cheap and huge. You're going to want one anyway for backing up all your stuff, so the amount of space you have on the laptop itself really won't matter much. Just grab a 1TB hard drive and plug that sucker in.

RAM and screen size should be your two key factors in this decision.

No pricing leeway on Insprion, but there is on XPS and Latitude.

Taking a look now

This one still may be cheaper after the discount pricing - http://www.dell.com/ca/p/inspiron-17r-5737/pd?oc=ni17romsh_bt_h511e&model_id=inspiron-17r-5737

Let me know if you find a better deal with Dell

Thanks guys, we're going to do a little more research until funding is released (beginning of April I believe) but I may have talked the wife into doing 1 laptop (the 17" 6bg from dell) and probably a refurbished iMac

I can't agree with you more on Blue Rigger. My entire home theater is set up with it.:0074:0074:0074

after pricing hdmi cables at local stores(and doing a little net research),i was really pleasantly surprised at the price and selection that blue rigger offers through amazon....they`re actually cheaper than most others...they`re much more substantial than the other brands and most are rated for 3d applications and in wall installation...i just took a look and they`re offering a 25 ft hdmi cable for $13.99?......

sometimes you actually do get what you pay for...

We've finally made our choice we're going to go with the 13in Macbook Pro.

These are the specs...

Product Number : MD101LL/A
2.5GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
4GB 1600MHz memory
500GB 5400-rpm hard drive
Intel HD Graphics 4000
Built-in battery (7 hours)

Thinking of doing 1 upgrade

Double the ram from 4GB to 8 GB $90

Double the HD size from 500gb to 1TB $90

Upgrade from 2.5GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
to 2.9GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz $135

If you could only do 1, what would you do? What in your opinion is the best bang for the buck?

Or would you not do any

Thanks for your responses gents :0008

Double ram.

If you get close to running out of HD space, use Google Drive. It's free. :0074

I would definitely do the Ram. You can get a 3TB HD for $100 and the turbo boost isn't nearly as important as the Ram. You can run multiple programs very quickly and efficiently with the Ram upgrade....JMO

If you're getting it from Apple, don't forget to ask for educational pricing, or look for your child's school online and you will get around a $200 discount....Enjoy your new laptop!

The laptop I'm using is a 4 year old company Macbook pro. I use it 6 to 7 hours a day and it hasn't had any issues. The Apple customer support at the stores is amazing. They will diagnose your laptop and fix most issues.

The company I work for never bought Applecare and so far, I haven't needed it. (Knock on wood). These are very reliable computers.

I work in the photo industry and I'm using a 15 inch laptop and it is plenty big enough for me. If you have any issues, just get my email from Jack and I might be able to help you out.

Another bonus with the Macs is that they are so intuitive. They are the easiest systems by far to learn and you'll virtually never need to worry about a virus or all that nonsense that you do with a PC. The computer literally knows what you want to do, such as connecting wifi or wireless routers....Let us know how you like it.

Good luck and enjoy!
