My father-in-law wants a new laptop. He only uses a computer for email and the internet so he doesn't need any bells or whistles.

Anyone have any tips on what I should get?

Dell would be the most bang for your buck the only draw back with the mini is the atom processor you can get a Duo processor with a laptop.

What size does he want and how much does he what to spend ?

Go to Walmart and get the cheapest one there that has Windows 7. You should be able to find a good deal. Stay away from the Netbooks.

He's cheap so looking to spend less than $700.

I looked into the Notebooks, but they may be too small. He's got a HD tv that can also be a computer monitor, could you hook that up and use that instead of 10 to 12 inch screen?

This a good deal for the price more than he needs but it won't be out dated in a few months & it's in his budget.

Just a question: Is Microsoft Works 9 the same stuff you get with Microsoft Office?
