Kansas City area for who knows how long....
yer query got me thinking of my fave places, so I checked to see if they still operating...

Galatoire's is the best place, imho--but not cheap.

found on google search: Crabmeat Maison, Galatoire's version of crabmeat ravigote: jumbo lump crabmeat in a lightly seasoned mayonnaise-based dressing with a touch of Creole mustard, capers, green onions and parsley:

CrabmeatMaisonGalatoires.jpg

Acme Oyster House, they have excellent oysters of any type, and po-boys.

Here's Acme Shrimp and Oyster PoBoy

fried-oyster-and-shrimp-po-boy-at-a.jpg

Buffa's for pub food, drinks and super hamburgers! (Buffa's Lounge. 1001 Esplanade Avenue)

Looks like Coop's is open!

And I always go to Central Grocery (not at crowded peak hours) to get a muffuletta for the trip back

(Herbsaint Restaurant for frog legs!)

Thanks terryray... I was already hungry and you just put it on another level with those pics... now I want some cajun food, and there is no where around here that is respectable.

anybody know any easy cajun recipes that do not use a lot of ingredients?

Zatarain's mixes in box at your grocer excellent for easy. Jambalaya about the best they offer. Fry up some sausage with onions and green peppers to add to it! And shrimp and chicken and...

you MUST go to to Mother's on Poydras street, (downtown)and get the "Ferdie"---roastbeef with debris, ham, coleslaw on crunchy french bread....

go around 11:00 or you'll be waiting awhile...

also MapQuest, Tony Angleo's in Metarie. A family owned Italian restaurant----go hungry and get the 7 course meal....the eggplant is the best I have EVER had...

Acme is good for seafood and oysters. I RATHER Drago's....they must opened on in the Hilton lobby at end of canal, across from Harrah's....

also Deanie's in BUCKTOWN has GREAT seafood and the BIGGEST seafood Platter you will lay eyes on...get there early....

Lawtchan speaks the truth. Mother's for a Ferdie is a must stop. The top restaurants offering local cuisine are Galatoire's, as mentioned by Terry Ray, and Commander's Palace. Also, Palace Cafe, Mr B's, Brennan's and Antoine's are known for their local creole cuisine.

Other top level restaurants include Bayona and August.

I hope that you enjoy yourself in the Big Easy:toast:

debris...that reminds me, speaking of Nawlins food terms--you gotta order your hamburger "dressed".

nice to see Commander's Palace back open. One in Las Vegas closed :sadwave:

I've never see Zatarain's Smothered Chicken! I looked online and found they also had something called "Zatarain's Mossy Oak Jambalaya Mix"

Using chicken broth instead of water always good!

my bro will simmer the fried chicken chunks (and broth), fried sausage, onion and bell peppers with couple cans of tomatoes for few hours before putting in the Zatarain's. Real good dat!

and if you get the Central Gro. muffuletta for trip back--just notice the expressions on fellow passengers in plane when you pull that puppy out to eat!

Surprisingly, a Central Muff keeps well for hours. So does a Ferdie since they give you the debris on the side;)

BTW, for dinner, I am having Turtle Soup from Commander's. A salesman dropped off several tubs to us Friday:00hour Talk about good stuff:)
