Politics aside, if none of the expiring tax cuts are renewed, expect your paychecks to be about 4.4% lower if you are middle income earner (like $40-65k). Obviously more if you make more, less if you make less.

If you make $50,000, you will be paying about $2000 in new taxes in 2012.

I'm not a Republican. Just not a great time for my paycheck to go $2k light this year. Not that it ever would be. :mj07:

Don't get me wrong, out of control debt is going to cause inflation that eats at my paycheck at far higher than a 4 or 5% clip, so I'll take this over the alternative.

Since I use so few government services, I'd definitely prefer cuts to military and other things, so I could hang on a bit longer. Wages aren't going up, and if taxes do it's essentially a pay cut. A lot of people are barely hanging on to homes/apartments and their entire fiscal stability, and $2k less next year might tip the scales into them losing.
