Munson:
What! No Skyline!!! I prefer my five way beans with extra grease. Next time your in these parts of the bible belt let me know and I'll buy.
You guys have the Tennessean and we have the Enquirer. Enquirer is Gannnett. How bout the Tennessean? Because of this dribble, like my fellows on the right avoiding Dixie Chicks cd's, I do not buy Enquirer or USA Today (aka McNews).
When I do read my local fish wrap, the letters to the editor are similar. Alot of them quote bible verse. I guess in a way I'm jealous. These people have every answer to every question in that book. Thats pretty good security. Reality avoidance but, none the less, comforting.
My good Doctor, never thought I would say this, but very good post. I really don't expect Christians to be perfect, but as I indicated earlier, I have a very hard time with the "...must accept Jesus into your heart...." argument as the only way to salvation.
Seriously, if you can address the Hitler v. Schweitzer question I posed earlier, I would be greatly interested in your position on this. You also bring up an interesting point. What if Jesus came to earth today, 2003, and said he was the son of God. How would he be received?
I can't help but think he would be in a padded room at your local psychiatric hospital. Conversely, what if many of the born again Christians or moral majority members of today were around 2000 years ago. Would they be on the side of their government or would they side with the criminal of the state Jesus Christ?
You know based on the posts of numerous people on this board, I have a feeling that they would not be able to distinguish the son of God from a mentally ill wack job. I have a feeling they would be throwing stones and not crying at the feet of Christ on the cross.
Ferdville and others have accused me of being arrogant. I really am not as I know I have a lot to learn. Frankly, I watched a show on Hussein last night and although I knew he was a horrible human being before, I realized that he was more Stalin like than I had thought.
Still not convinced military action was the way to go as I continue to be suspicious of this Administrations motives, but I gotta say I'm glad he's gone. In law, there is a saying, that if a case does not settle and ends up in a trial, someone has made a mistake. Same thoughts with regard to military action.
Chanman:To illustrate a point you know so well....the former owner of the Reds, Marge Schott referred to Eric Davis as her 3 million dollar niggar about 10 years ago. That is typical, not unusual, of the mentality I see here in the bible belt. If you aren't a white anglo saxon protestant, like my friends the Cleavers, your one of them. Sad that it still exists.
Dogs: Did you know that 42.7% of statistics used to prove a point are made up on the spot (had to borrow that Stephen Wrightism from another thread). Where do you come up with 70%?
My thought, based on the numbers in the last election was that this country is pretty evenly divided between right and left. I do not defend the politics of the left. I agree that both sides have there share of nastiness. My solution as I stated before is meaningfull campaign finance reform so that our elected officials are not bought and sold before they are sworn in.
I attack the current administration because certain members of this board continue to state, in so many words.... how lucky we are to have moral George in office instead of blowjob Bill. That is the hypocrisy that I attack. Like I said, if Bennett had been associated with the left, liberals or democrats, corporate radio (talk) would have been yacking about it from now until November, 2004.
Not so, since he's on the other side. Its mentioned but thats it. No calling for heads like the right does all the time when presented with a faux pas performed by the left. I mean look at how often Clinton is being brought up. Cheesus. I dont bring up 'dddaaaahhhhhdddddeeeee", nor do I talk about Reagans lying under oath in depostion during the Iran Contra stuff.
AR: Still think military intervention will cause an increase in terrorist attacks. Someone brought up a good point in another thread that the easy part of this war is over. Hard part is now. I dont think anyone thought US would have much trouble with those balsa wood airplanes the Iraqis were using to deliver the weapons of mass destruction.
Numerous factions, different religions, different society. We got our work cut out for us. By the way, just heard Waxman on NPR (what else) said theres a lot more to that Haliburton contract (which was not bid on) than just putting out oil well fires. Kinda fishy.
